Even disregarding Eri and everything surrounding her, is it really that confusing that a teenager is excited about a school festival?

They just want the big epic plot-stuff every time.

Which makes it funny cause I've also seen people who hates it whenever the focus gets shifted onto Shiggy & the duo-destiny he & Deku are building up.

On a similar topic, it is a bit irksome how some people have it in their minds that a story must cater to their every taste, and it is bad otherwise when it doesn't. That isn't to say that people can't express their dislike of a story's direction, but it should be in reasonable measure.

Basically, it's okay be disappointed if a story goes in a different direction than your preferred one, it's not okay to act as if it's not what you would do it's automatically bad writing.

I think Magnum Force made the point awhile ago that this series is at the point where it really doesn't matter what Horikoshi is focusing on, there's always going to be a large number of complainers.

Like, there are apparently already people going on about how this arc is going to be terrible because Endeavor and Bakugo are going to be a big part of it. How do you debate something like that?

Ignore them.

Or as I like to do gush non stop about Bakugou when they're annoying me at a bad time.

Or gush about Shiggy when the plot inevitably focuses on him & his dynamism with Deku again.

I think people often forget that UA already had a damaged reputation to the point that even a mere perception of a threat would call off the culture festival. It's not just bad for now that the festival gets cancelled, if Gentle succeeded then it would basically mean resignations from top UA staff. Cause Gentle's bad reputation as a yotuber (despite actually being fairly capable and quite powerful) would ruin UA's.

That's on top of all the other reasons such as working on his guilt.

That is true. I do think that [part could have done with a little more emphasizing, but even still U.A.'s situation and why an infiltration of any kind would not have been good still should have been obvious to anyone paying attention.

But some people are good at ignoring things if it hurts their point. I've actually seen someone say they just plan to ignore the "asspull" that is Izuku getting six new Quirks. Like, even ignoring how that's not what an asspull is, I don't see how that person actually expects that to be possible. If that's where you're at, you'd probably be better of just stop reading, as much as "don't like, don't read" is treated as dismissive, I honestly can't think of any other way to reply to something like that.

[up][up]"I've actually seen someone say they just plan to ignore the "asspull" that is Izuku getting six new Quirks."

well that's an interesting response. I'm no fan of the 7 quirks thing, but Izuku is the protagonist. You can't really ignore it. It'll come up again and it's been regularly discussed in-series several times now. Like i said, i don't like it either, but if Horikoshi intends to shoot himself in the foot (IMHO) then i'd still have ideas for how to do it in the least dumb way possible. Which is why i still have opinions on what quirks there should be (preferably technical ones that still leave open vulnerabilities, so he doesn't become immune to everything or can just heal lost limbs), when to awaken them (preferably we learn most of them and the trick is making them useful or controlling them, leaving one or two surprise quirks), or how powerful they should be.

I sometimes come across people where i do wonder why they even bother. I've seen people complain about MHA since the overhaul or Kamino arc, that's been years. Why do such people still bother? Series i don't like or stopped liking i either quit (SAO, halfway s1) or took a break from (Nanatsu no Taizai, One Piece 2x).

I'd prefer it didn't happen either, but since it is, I'm just reserving final judgment until after I see what they all are and how they're used.

I wouldn't get my hopes for them all being "technical", I doubt they're all going to be pure "beat'm up" powers either.

But as soon as we were told these were all going to be much stronger than they originally were, the notion of anything small-scale or reserved should have left your head.

And, yeah, ignoring these developments is literally not possible, which is why I brought it up. It stood out to me that someone would actually say that instead of, you know, dropping the series.

When I see people consistently harangue a series, I often have that same thought in the form of "then why are you even here?"

I understand gushing over a series constantly. At least then you're enjoying yourself.

I also sometimes have the thought of "well maybe you should write your own story", even though there are many reasons why that may not be possible. I still am tempted every once in a while though.

[up][up] I asked a guy like that once especially after they revealed to have previously dropped over 40 other series before.

Their answer was along the lines "I dropped tons of other manga so I need something to read plus reading a weekly chapter only takes like 5 minutes so not much effort."

For me it's a mixture of sunk cost fallacy and catharsis out irritation from a perceived downgrade in quality. But even then I'm a lot less hesitant to drop a series I'm not enjoying anymore, like Seven Deadly Sins.

I can’t say.

It must just be either Sunk Cost Fallacy, where after being there for so long I want to see how things pan out, or that there is something else about the series that I like enough to stick with it.

Sure, 5 minutes might not be much time, but if you follow a lot of series, or are just busy with other things in your life, that time adds up. I've started a lot of series then dropped them when they started getting bad or I could see that they weren't gonna get much better because I've got other things to spend my time on, eg the dozens and dozens of cookie-cutter isekai I've read a few chapters of then dropped.

Bleach and Fairy Tail are probably the biggest examples for me of having to defy Sunk Cost Fallacy. I followed those series for years, but the quality just got to the point where I had to drop them. So in the case of some random isekai manga I picked up and read three chapters of, even the slightest objectionable thing will just make me drop it. But in the case of something like MHA, which I have read and enjoyed immensely for years, I'd probably be pretty damn forgiving of any slip-ups in the future.

I just have a thing about the people who are like "I can't see how this will end, and that's horrible."

Like, with Bleach or Naruto or Fairy Tail, when it became clear that the series was ending in a few chapters and there was still no satisfying way to beat the main villain, that's one thing (though I'm pretty forgiving of Bleach given Kubo's specific circumstances, but the other two were just flatly awful). But, like, that's not the case here. this series very clearly still has years to go, so I don't see how "I can't predict the finale that is years away" is supposed to be a mark against it.

Naruto didn't go off the rails so much as it tried to pretend it had been a completely different train this whole time. Not sure about Fairy Tail, though.

Well, Naruto had Madara, who no one could beat so he conveniently got usurped at the last minute as final villain by a character who had only been mentioned like 10 chapters before she appeared, and the whole fight with that character was just tedious and awful.

Fairy Tail was mostly standard "Overpowered villain is kicking our ass, but friendship, so beat them with one attack." but that got dragged out for like five chapters so...
