Ya know, with that backstory and trauma(and how it probably continues) any other sort of characterization for Shigaraki as villain wouldn't make sense.
What do you mean?
It's not like that trauma and abuse are the sole or even main reasons he is how he is.
That probably has more to do with AFO grooming him.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI mean, the really traumatic way he ends up killing accidentally his whole family? The "I hate everything" motivation would make much more sense than him wanting just be crime kingpin(or whatever All For One and Overhaul were about) or "remake world better" like what Re-Destro thinks he is doing.
Sure he could have gotten better with counseling perhaps, but I'm talking about what kind of VILLAIN he ended up as.
(in otherwords, I'm referring to how people think Shigaraki's motivation is boring because they think "I want to destroy everything" villains aren't complex or interesting)
But yeah, geezus this feels real, especially with how uncomfortable and horrified rest of the family is

Oh, then yeah, I agree. I said something similar a couple of pages back.
True, this moment was the first time the abuse became physical in terms of hitting Shigaraki, but on the psychological front? That appears to have been going on for quite some time, judging from how terrified Shigaraki is when his father was dragging him off to that "corner of shame" in the backyard.
Abuse doesn't always have to be physical in order to hurt someone, especially when it comes to kids.
I'm aware of that as well.
I don't think anyone here thinks abuse is any less harmful even if it doesn't cross into physical territory.
I am painfully aware of that.
Disgusted, but not surprisedOn sidenote, geez, his dad DOES kinda look like Yoshikage Kira in a way
Here's a thought, Shigaraki will now destroy Re-Destro and after seeing that (and what Re-Destro can do in the process), that will get Giganto to willingly follow him.
Re-reading it, yeah Shigaraki’s dad actually appears regretful of how far he went. Actually becoming outright enraged & beating his son in front of everyone & his own wife confronting is the breaking point that has made him truly realize how much he fucked everything up.
Sadly it’s irreparably fucked now.
And yes he does look like Yoshikage Kira. Huh guess this is what it look like if he started his own family.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That resemblance is almost certainly deliberate, given Kira's own hand fetish.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI've seen the theory around that the man from the beginning of the chapter might be Af O. That makes a lot of sense. It seems clear that the place where he found Shigaraki was that backyard, and it was probably shortly after this, so he must have already keeping an eye on him. Plus Tenko awakening his quirk past the cutoff age is pretty suspicious.
All For One giving him his Quirk wouldn't actually explain any of the things going on with him, though.
The "allergy" which he's clearly had for some time already, the sudden pain in his hand he felt before his Dad freaked out on him, presumably his hair changing color... all of that was building up in a way that doesn't make sense if the answer is All For One. We've seen that when All For One gives (or takes) a Quirk, the effect is instant.
We've already been told that Shigaraki's Quirk is a mutation like Eri's - and we know that Quirks like that already defy how Quirks normally work. I can only assume all the weird things about him are because of that.

So in the wise wprds of TGS Vegeta, "How do you remember the parts you weren't there for?"
It's almost like Shigaraki has been trapped in this moment ever since. He never got to make amends and reconcile. He's just been stuck hating everything since he was 5.
What’s sad is he didn’t start out hating everyone. Those were just the words of a sad crying child said in intense emotion & distraught.
He only truly started hating everythjng after it was too late....... and after some nudging from AFO.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That's probably the defining characteristic of a lot of fictional villains. They get "stuck" and never really manage to move on.
Disgusted, but not surprisedIt seems to me like the scratching and his sickly condition might have been Shigaraki's original Quirk - an underscored and low-key self-Decay, presumably? - and the outward Decay manifested either as a result of extreme stress, like it's evolving now during his fight with Re-Destro (to wit: Nana pushed the blame for sneaking into father's study and seeing Nana's photo on him, hit by father, presumably hurt by the dog when Decay came up all of a sudden and it felt pain, thus only making it stronger; overall lack of help from other family) or via AFO tampering.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. This is nowhere near Endeavor's situation, so people are severely off the mark. The sad part, I already know people are going to misinterpret this.
And wow was Kota's story foreshadowing this hard.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Dude still locked his kid outside and refused to feed him.
I never said what he did was even remotely good. But the fact that people are immediately calling for his death is a troubling sign.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.
He clearly already regrets it. This was obviously the first time he ever actually hit him. Like, I'm not condoning his behavior, but I get it.
