Fun fact: the first MK game was meant to be a licensed vehicle for 90's action star Jean-Claude Van Damme, and would feature Van Damme taking on a colorful cast of martial artists and magic warriors.
Attempts to sign Van Damme onto the project fell through, however ,and so Van Damme's character wound up being renamed Johnny Cage.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I think MK Legacy even did a shout out to this by making Johnny Cage a washed up actor with some legal issues like Van Damne was at one point
I think that is why mortal kombat was the only good video game movie of the 90: it was already based in two movies(Operation dragon and big trouble i little china)
But yeah, Liu kang have never being a chararter with their own wants, the movie give him a plot about a death brother and it was the one who introduce Kitana and Liu ship tease, cage have his funny moments, raiden is the wise mentos but kang is.....kang.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Raiden should make Mentos commercials.... wisely.

"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"For all of the flak that this game understandably gets, I really did like some of its endings. Some of the characters and stories fit like a glove. Mortal Kombat takes its narrative a lot more seriously than Capcom does with Street Fighter, and I feel like they could have really done a lot if they'd had Injustice before making MK vs DC.
I'd say Havik and Reiko, but they died in the comics.
Taven and Daegon no doubt.
So I've been thinking about this a lot. Just how much did Jade know of Edenia in both timelines? Was she always planning on turning on Khan or was it something that only happened when Kitana became Khan's enemy?
there might be a chance that Netherrealm won't follow their bussiness schedule and that Mortal Kombat 11 will come out in 2020.

What are people's thoughts on Mortal Kombat Legacy?
It depend, back in old lore edenia and oldworld were one and the scene and for what I get jade didnt know.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"
I thought it was enjoyable but sometimes it leans too hard on the edgy side. I suppose that's fine since it's MK.
"Liu Kang became a carbon copy of Regime Superman from Injustice."
I like how he geeks out about calling him liu kahng and than calls raiden "rayden"
Not only is he wrong but is atempt ot give him depth to Liu kang just make him a carbon copy of Superman or a regular superhero by giving a pointless "nto killing" dilema stright out of DC hallmark.
Liu kang is bland because is only feature is being the protagonist, he have no personal stakes rather than "He is good guy" to the point the movie invent him a dead brother so he can have something(not surprising the chararter Kang is based in Operation dragon come to find her sister), the fact he is stood by "Liu kang come, fight bad guy, save everything" FOUR times and is moeset didnt change at all show the problem.
I mean im perplex in how everything there is a bland hero the only proporsal to keep that way os to make him a superman or capitan american clone, in the whole "He is a paragon who value life and everything good" it show people have trouble with good aling protagonist.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I would definitely say depth doesn't mean they had to go the direction that they did with him.
If the options were between those two I definitely would have preferred him staying the same over getting shafted by the plot to give 'devlopment'.
"When I offered to make Norea my third back-up girlfriend she just glared at me and started throwing things at me.." Renee CostaI do find it funny that essentially Liu’s role of the Big Good ended up with friggin Johnny Cage of all people.
We already have that, for four games and it didnt work, the idea to mantain a chararter the same for the sake of being good is silly.
Liu kang was a boring and bland chararter and now that he is a reveant he isnt, is fall was well done.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Kang was more the paladin. Raiden was the big good.
Him being boring and the fall working would be rather subjective. We definitely established that there are a few people that would have liked Lui Kang not being turned into a villian for the sake of fleshing him out. They could have done that without dragging the character through hell.
"When I offered to make Norea my third back-up girlfriend she just glared at me and started throwing things at me.." Renee CostaSo watching the video I gotta say a lot of it had to with "in hindsight this could've better". Nether Realm or more specifically Midway didn't get their shit together until MK 9 & Liu's MK 9 arcade & MK Legacy always meant they were going to make Liu corrupted in the future.
The 4th Snake's "Wasted Potential" videos are all like that. They focus on examining and analyzing how past or present character arcs were handled in previous games, usually done badly or sub-optimally in said games, then creates a new and improved version of their story arcs that flows better from the information given about the character's roles, backstory, or personalty in previous games.
I don't subscribe to him but his channel has been a favorite of mine for the last year.
