Someone asked the Akahata (JCP newspaper) online if the Zengakuren and Chūkaku-ha have links to it. Person was told that the JCP considered them to be anti-social groups.

[up]

The last time I saw the JCP, they supported the Hong Kong protests and made fun of the CCP enough for their Twitter to be swarmed by angry pro-Beijing accounts.

It appears the JCP have dropped their general opposition to NATO recently.

That's great to hear then, that and there hardline anti-nuclear (power, I just dont see another method that's viable and doesn't ruin the environment) were the pain points that kept me from voting for them back in the day.

North Korea attempted to launch a spy satellite, which failed and crashed into the Yellow Sea. This prompted air raid sirens to go off in Baekryeong island, South Korea, and Okinawa, Japan, which were near the flight path of the space launch vehicle.
However, due to a mistake, eight minutes after North Korea launched the rocket, air raid sirens went off in Seoul, which was nowhere near the flight path, and a half-assed SMS alert was sent to all residents telling them to get ready to evacuate, without specifying why they needed to evacuate nor where to evacuate. Later, the Ministry of Interior and Safety sent SMS alerts saying that the previous message was a false alarm and should be disregarded.
The city claimed that the Capital Defense Command notified them of the North Korean rocket launch and that they should send a SMS alert. On the other hand, the Ministry of Interior and Safety said that the air raid alert was not supposed to be sent to Seoul, and only for Baekryeong island. The ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed that the rocket launch would not have affected Seoul.
Update: Seoul's mayor Oh Se-hoon doubled down, saying that the air raid alert may have been due to an 'overreaction', but was not a false alarm, contradicting the Ministry of Interior and Safety.

So North Korea fucked up launching a spy satellite and South Korea fucked up the warning response.

The blame game's probably happening in North Korea too, though possibly in a somewhat more lethal manner.

My phone settings are in English and the alert came as a "Wartime Alert". Scared the ever-loving shit out of me at 6:30 in the morning. I heard it was especially bad for the international students as most of their contacts are other international students and they don't always have easy access to Korean new sources.

Japan court: 'Unconstitutional' not to allow same-sex marriage

1. Opposition to recognizing same-sex marriages demmed "unconstitutional". The Nagoya District Court found opposing recognition to be violations of Article 14, Clause 1 and Article 24, Clause 2.

2. Judge Osamu Nishimura claimed this ruling is "an acceleration in the trend toward understanding and recognizing same-sex couples".

Talked about it already in the LGBT thread, this is a nearly anual court case... the constitution literaly says that marriage is one man and one woman, so once it hits a judge that actualy goes by what the law says, or the supreme court it gets stuck down.

It really fucking sucks because the only way to fix this is a constitutional amendment which requires 70% of the diet to agree to do so... the diet which is controled by the LDP, who are conservitive.

And even if they weren't they cant even pass the changes they WANT to change, so.....

Were honestly pretty much screwed on that front too.

This is just a news peice for clicks at the end of the day, and it makes me very sad and very grump.

Yeah, unlike America, the courts can’t override the constitution.

SDF member snaped and tried to shoot up a base

Reuters is linked because its in English, but the rumormill with the local media (how I am following this) is that he was bullied and decided to go with murder instead of suicide.

2 dead and 3 injured at current count.

Do mass shootings happen in the JSDF as much as in the ROK armed forces?

No, this is pretty out of the ordinary.

Suicides are common enough, and sometimes the rare really public suicide, with grandstanding and memorandums but.... this is pretty new.

Looks like both military and civilian police are involved in the investigation.

Not really if the suspect is not yet fully recruited into the JGSDF.

But Japan really has no military courts legally. So civilian police can easily find themselves involved.

Double post, but there was some other big stuff that got lost in the suprise of a shooting incident.

Kishida announced the draft of how they plan to address the birth rate, and color me suprised but it seems like they actualy fucking listened to women this time.

Childcare is having the age limit raised to 18, they are also opening more slots.

Financial limit on support is also being removed.

And here is the big one, as the draft currently is they plan to put overtime caps and a 4 day work week on fathers.

Which pulls double duty of not only making it so the father is home more to help take care of them (much needed)

It helps keep women competitive in there careers, because now "your just going to start a family arent you" will be a concern for both men and women.

Like I dont expect this to fix things over night, and we still need to address major issues like... you know making childbirth less of a hellish nightmare.

But this is legitimatly a good first step I did not expect to see out of the LDP.

It helps keep women competitive in there careers, because now "your just going to start a family arent you" will be a concern for both men and women.

So I’ve discussed something similar with colleagues in my workplace. Paid maternity leave is critical to helping women maintain careers, but there comes a point where you also want to push paid paternity leave to also help out. As if both men and women are taking similar paid leave when having a child there’s not only a reduced risk of direct discrimination, but also more parity in career breaks and the progression slowdown that comes with taking parental leave.
