He didn't kill everyone this time due to Shintaro and Ayane's interference bringing Haruka into the picture. At least I think that so.

You can see Hiyori with the gang during their last appearance.

So what I'm thinking here is that they were all stuck inside Marry's loop, which wasn't the real world? The fact that no one else really exists as more than bland space fillers is why I think that.

So ending that either killed everyone since they were only alive due to the snakes, and the last scene was them all going to heaven or whatever. Or they all go back to the real world, with at the very least the knowledge of their friendship and everyone is happy.

...and that is why item number 6 on the Evil Overlord List exists.

To be fair Kuroha couldn't do more than gloat considering he just had to wait for Marry to do her thing... Though why he didn't guarantee that she would do it by doing something like killing Seto before Haruka could stop him is beyond me.

About what happened to them in the end... I think they all returned to the normal world, without their powers and still alive. It seems it was the first time Marry actually had all snakes with her since this time Ayano was present so she likely would have more power to bring everybody back safely. They likely aren't dead otherwise Marry wouldn't be with them and I think she now has all the powers the others members of the cast had, like Azami used to.

Hiyori is likely with them in the end because Konoha promised Hibiya that he would save Hiyori and since he was the one who made the "wish", he likely wished for Hiyori to be saved.

[up] If that's the case, then it sure sucks for everyone else who's still stuck in the daze. But anyway, I think Konoha probably wished for the black snake to stop existing ("No! Not that kind of wish! NOOOOO!!!"). And Marry, now being the new master of the daze proper, might have been able to pull out everyone trapped in it and destroy it for good.

Alternatively, Konoha could've wished for a "happy ending". No black snake, everyone's safe, everyone's happy, all those trapped in the daze get out.

[up] Konoha's wish was to save Hiyori — that's why she was able to get out. And the reason no one else was saved was because there weren't enough snakes to go around.

Episode 12:

  • Takane can digitize herself at will. Neat. Stupid generics, thinking they held all the cards.tongue
  • The power of perversion can save the world! I learned that from Assassination Classroom.tongue
  • Before returning, let's pick up one more guy.
  • So, it was an infinite time loop. And jacking Konoha's body made him look like Staz at times.
  • Guess who's here, ready to crush your dream, snake?
  • Hm, think Ayane would look cooler if she had her scarf?tongue
  • Let's roll out, Mekaku Gang!

It was okay. Probably would've been better if I was more in tune with the source material. And Hiyori was such a wasted character. Why was she the main focus in the ending song?

There's so much about Hiyori that didn't ever get adressed, that's one of the main things that bothered me in this anime. Once you know her backstory you kinda understand why she's so bitchy.

I'm still kind of confused about a bunch of things, especially the snakes

Mekakucity Actors episode 1: Over the top, yet underwhelming, i.e. Shafted.

No sign of plot to save it at this point (like how plot saved the -monogataris even though they were also Shafted). Continuing to next ep.

==========================
Mekakucity Actors episode 2: All over the place for the sake of being all over the place, i.e. Shafted.

Some semblance of what is supposed to be the plot was sighted briefly.

==========================
Mekakucity Actors episode 3: They're scrambling now, i.e. Shafted.

More signs of what is supposed to be the plot was sighted briefly. Slightly better but not by much.

==========================
Mekakucity Actors episode 4: The episode has a split-personality, i.e. Shafted.

"We've branched together two plotlines already, so we'll branch out another again" is their thinking.

I posted those on FB. Friends responded with "read the source material", "listen to the songs AND read translated lyrics", "you will only see the plot in the end".

The responses aren't good signs.

I've not seen or heard any other material than what's presented in the anime. Didn't really have a problem with the series.

And another thing...it lacks the "you'd want to watch the next ep" factor that two previous series I've just watched have (Hitsugi no Chaika, and the immediate precursor, Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin).

Mekakucity Actors ep 5: Out-of-place, shallow gag scene, i.e. Shafted.

It wasn't funny in a harem+rom com, and it isn't funny here either.

DROPPED.

Shame, because it's starting on episode 6 that the plot starts getting good.

I've learned my lesson, been burned too much already. I dropped one show after 8 episodes (out of 11 in total), I dropped another after 9 episodes (out of 12 in total). Slowly but surely I became more cautious. 8 out of 12 before dropping; 7 out of 12 before dropping; so now it's 5 out of 12.

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.

Reviving this just to say that the blu-ray version of this anime fixed the terrible opening of Episode 9 as you can see here. Good to see they're updating the animation at least.
