I just wish the movie would be in black and white except for when the Boy starts seeing color. Like with Schindler's List and that little girl.
That's what the trailer makes it seem like, and that's what I'm guessing will happen.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."And having now watched said trailer: The fuck? That was nothing like what I read in the late 90s.
It's really not tbh.
The only reason this is even being made is to get some of dat Hunger Games Money yo. It's more or less a sorta "loose" adaptation of the book to appeal to........ I dunno actually. Who the hell ARE they targeting for this damn thing?
People who will watch the movie
The world will look up and shout "Save us", and I'll look down and whisper "Too bad, Waluigi Time" Vote Loki 2016To be fair, This ISN'T the 90s and thus it has, what? 20-ish years for society and culture to change around it? Its not going to be exactly what you read in the 90s.
And, I've personally be a fan of the movie being different from the book if it tells a better story and stands better than trying to adapt a story and having to cut too many things out and it becomes impossible to follow unless you read the base material. [[Film/Stardust Stardust]] is one of my favorite movies of all time and its VASTLY different from the book under approval of the author because he believed that, if you want the movie to be an exact adaptation of the book, read the damn book then and you'll probably like it better.

I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing.True, but the kid wasn't trying to bring down the System, but escape with his younger brother. He was chosen to be the Reciever, not stumble upon the Giver. This movie is making the whole thing a "Fight the System!" Teen movie. Also, the drugs to suppress color and basic puberty thoughts was pills. Not a morning injection.
In the trailer, Jonas seems to be deliberately heading towards the Giver's house in the trailer.
Along with that, Jonas did start to want to fight the system, only by getting out of there.
Two things did get on my nerves though:
- The Giver did not say he was the former Receiver, although that might've been omitted for time reasons and the want to get to a Title Drop.
- The Chief Elder actually coming across as villainous in the trailer, when she shouldn't actually be villainous until Jonas starts bucking the system.
And its still a trailer. It has to try and appeal to the modern audiences of Hunger Games and etc which are all about rebellion and actively fighting the system. Just simply escaping may seem selfish in a trailer for some reason.
I love how you suggest 'She shouldn't be villainous until x point of the plot' when its a trailer which jumps around the plot by nature.
I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing. It's been a long time since I read the book. Can somebody remind me why Jonas's father kills that baby and later wants to kill the little girl?
In the book, Jonas' father kills the baby because it it an identical twin, and the weaker of two twins is always killed because having two people who look the same would be confusing.
The thing about the book is that there is no central antagonist. Jonas gets disturbed by the system when he learns all the dirty secrets behind maintaining the Utopia and runs away with Gabe to prevent him from being euthanized.
I'm okay with them making it more actiony as long as it's still a good movie. We are judging based on the trailers, it hasn't come out yet, calm down.
I wonder if they'll do the sequels that nobody knows about.
That might be one reason they won't follow The Giver entirely; they'll fully resolve the conflict of the plot instead of leaving it for sequels that no one has heard.
And, that'd be a good idea after the failures of other YA Movie Series like The Host.
I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing.I read the sequels.
At least it looks like the movie will be in black and white, but I don't like how it looks like they changed the plot.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.I have to say, the second trailer gives me a teeny weeny bit of hope. They did do he Black ad White, and it seems that will bring up the Stirrings and the Releasing stuff. Still a little disconcerted by the upgraded villainy and the Hunger Games tone of things, but at least they didn't completely ignore the plot.
Saw the second trailer in front of Got G last night, and it was nice to see some black and white in there... but then they had to go and spoil half the entire friggin' story. Well done.
Ones made by people who aren't complete tossers.

"That wizard came from the moon!"What movie trailer DOESN'T do that? Particularly one based off of a book? Not excusing it, but...
I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing. You'd better hope the only thing worse doesn't happen: Jonas giving an opening narration that spoils the whole twist.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI'll be pissed if that happens.
Look I don't want to sound like an asshole but I just don't get what people see in Equilibrium.
Like when ever anyone brings up Equilibrium I'm like "eh it's kinda crappy but it's ok" but everybody else is like "NAW MANG EQUILIBRIUM IS LIKE THE BEST SHIT EVER YO FUCKIN' 10/10 GOAT."
I don't get it man.
Besides, The Boners came first dude.
I dunno, honestly The Giver was just kinda a footnote in a year that all I can really remember from is Call of Duty 4 and Soulja Boy being fucking everywhere.
Even though Soulja Boy blows major ass I've had "Turn My Swag On" stuck in my head because I'm thinking about 6th Grade now because of The Giver dude.
