AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Local man ruins everything... AGAIN.
I can't find that meme about darkest dungeon in ng+ that went like "dad you got a letter from you ancestor... AGAIN." "-Oh no, not this shit AGAIN ! jumps out the window and starts running in the distance " but it would be so fitting.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."The comments are full of Ancestor quotes paraphrased to include the word "hype" in some way. As expected.
Also Mountains of Madness references. Because of course.
It's funny because this past week I just got back into Darkest Dungeons because I never did get around to beating it the first time, and I figured I might as well get CC and COM for myself and try again.
Though I keep starting over because I'm trying for the Dismas and Reynauld survive the final fight achievement.
Damnit Collector stop interrupting my boss expeditions!

I do wonder what it's going to be doing this time. Will we be descending into the depths of some ancient mountain fortress? Or will we be like what PC Gamer is guessing, on some sort of expedition rather than clearing a place out?
The interview also mentioned that this game is gonna be focused on the global effects of twisting eldritch abomination. So did the Ancestor screw things up on a global scale with either waking the terror under the mansion or summoning the Comet, or are there others out there?
"My journals, filled with abominable ravings and rituals, found their way into the hands of those who shared my enthusiasm for the eldritch secrets of this world..."
Also googly eyes.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.Still think googly eyes is canon what the Leper's eyes look like. Because, ya know, his eyelids fell off because of leprosy.
On an initial preview, they've said so far that 2 will be "a game about enduring a gruelling journey, not cleaning up your backyard." That's pretty surprising for me to hear since one of the most criticisms of the game (that I can't entirely discount) was that it was really grindy to beat.
But now I'm curious how they'll expand the metagame to meet that!
Well, if it's getting from point A to point B, that would theoretically cut down on grind a lot, since you're constantly on the move rather than grinding Warrens over and over again.
Indeed, though I wonder how everything will work without a coach to bring in new characters.
That's honestly a pretty good point I wasn't thinking of, perception like that makes all of the difference.
I assume you might have a coach / base camp or Caravan that replaces the hamlet.
So...anyone think we'll be seeing eyeless penguins in this?
Let's do one better, eyeless polar bears and seals!
Don't stop, just proceed, 'cause this is what you need-proceed, just proceed, 'cause this is what you need!I too feel now that I must go back to the first game, which I never did finish. I'd been considering it anyway. I'll probably start a new estate, maybe with the Crimson Court DLC. Did Colour of Madness come out on consoles yet? Is it recommended to use those DL Cs if you haven't finished the vanilla game?
Crimson Court actually has a warning if you start a new game with it on saying it's meant for experienced players, since it adds a bunch of new mechanics and ups the difficulty. Colors of Madness is optional content. You can have it on and just ignore it if you want.

To be fair they also said that they were going to significantly tune up the combat system and completely restructure the meta-game, so it's possible for DD 2 to be grueling without having the unfun slog that was much of the late game.
Overall I'm super excited
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnNoted, thanks. I definitely wouldn't consider myself an experienced player :P In my first attempt, I was forced to abandon something like my second or third expedition, and as a result didn't even have enough money to properly finance the next one, so I gave up. Next time I played was waaaay later, with Radiant mode. I had a much better time of things, dozens of expeditions and only one death. I'd also watched a fair bit of stream VO Ds of the game at that point, so I had a better grip of mechanics and tactics.
Also, if you just want to finish the first game, you can do so without fighting any of the other bosses. It's only the Darkest Dungeon that's needed for the ending.
But where would the fun in that be?
Because even the aged oak will fall to the tempest's winds, probably.
The way to deal with having low money is to just get a bunch of adventurers fresh off the wagon and throw them into a dungeon with no supplies. Have them collect as much loot as they can, then retreat. Dismiss the ones who are too broken to be useful, the repeat from step one.
Yeah, DD very much encourages the We Have Reserves mentality.
See, I've heard that but I guess I'm just lucky to almost always have an Antiquarian around. My current save, since my old ones were real old and not great, is never short on cash as one (1) member of my first Legend squad is an Antiquarian. I also have another which I think is sitting around Level 3 so I can get bank on multiple difficulty scales.
"Evii is right though" -Saturn "I didn't know you were a bitch Evii." -Lior Val
We've got ourselves a sequel, at the mountains of madness.
Between this and Hollow Knight: Silksong, this shapes up to be a good year.
