I got the synopsis for that Blue Beetle story from last year

“Blue Beetle: Graduation Day: Trapped between heroics and his future, Jaime Reyes is directionless. When the Reach interrupt Jaime's high school graduation, things only get worse. Starfire becomes a new mentor to Blue Beetle, but is it Jaime or the Scarab that's really in the driver's seat? And why hasn't Jaime applied to any colleges?”

[up][up] Oh many only 6 pages? Sad, they should get something a little more substantial like a one-shot.

Re: Clark Kent growing up on a farm.

I expect the attraction from a writing standpoint is that sort of background has a kind of mythic quality, plus it could explain a certain amount of isolation that would have allowed Clark space to develop his powers in private.

A few realities of farm life, though, is that a profitable working farm would likely have required more than 3 people to work it (with Clark's powers, of course, he could have worked it on his own, but that would've been giving things away) which means they likely hired hands to help them out at least at harvest time (something I don't think was ever referenced except in Morrison's All-Star Superman).

As to the whether or not the Kents were rednecks, I should say that most peoples notions about the kind of people who are farmers is about 50-60 years out of date, and farmers throughout history have hardly been a monolithic bunch. Most farmers in the US have college degrees, and that's been the case for a couple of decades now. A lot of people equate farmers with livestock ranchers, too, and those are two very different cultures

[up]Yeah, I grew up in the country and only knew like two farmers. From what I know, farming is essentially running a demanding small business and nowadays people will get a degree in agricultural science. It's demanding work, but because it's so important, government subsidies help out farms who have a bad year due to weather, etc.

Besides, who doesn't love the mental image of teenage Clark Kent juggling hogs?

I like the idea of seeing some hands at harvest time.

The five best Superman writers are Dan Jurgens, Jeph Loeb, Geoff Johns, Kurt Busiek, and Peter J. Tomasi.

Ironically, during the Silver Age, Lois was the one who grew up on a rustic farm. It didn't come up much, but it's such a contrast to the City vs. Country dynamic I'm used to from the Lois & Clark relationship, coming across it felt downright bizarre.

Spoilers for Justice Leauge#75 from reddit

As expected with his upcoming ongoing and movie coming out, Black Adam is the 'sole survivor' of the final battle, although Black Canary's fate is left somewhat ambiguous. Oliver Queen legitimately dies at the hands of Doomsday, while Most of the League vanish from our reality, to be presumably placed in separate ideal universes similar to Barry

I assume the “Ideal personal realities” thing is Pariah’s doing? So he essentially wants to revert the DCU to its pre-Justice Society days WAAAAYYYYY back before it was a shared universe at all, eh?

Is this the second time Ollie's been killed or did I miss his last trip to the grave?

I have it on backlog along with 2 bonus Crisis supporting books.

Death of the Justice League batman, superman, wonder woman, zatanna, black Adam, martian manhunter, hawkgirl, John stewart, aquaman and black canary are transported away to the hall of heroes and Ollie hitches a ride with canary. The great darkness attacks the house of heroes so they all teleport to multiverse 2 to take the fight to them. Ollie destroys pariah anti matter device and is explicitly killed by doomsday and Dinah is left alone on multiverse 2. The other heroes of the jla and jli get hit by pariah and turn into skeletons like barry in coie and also when he was sucked into his paradise universe Black Adam falls back to earth 0 and tells them the justice lesguebis dead.

[up] Batman's death panels keep making me laugh because of how the costume kept staying on the upper part of his face, and the general 'the rest of the body decays before the head does'. It's definitely gruesome but also feels cleaner than the Flash's original death, I think because they're not facing the reader like he was and it happens immediately without pages of buildup—in the original Crisis you could see Barry decaying as he ran before the infamous panels.

The deaths in question (spoilers)!

Rogues issue 2 is out and its great, we finally see Gorilla City.

Gorilla mob bosses, Grodd in a pristine white suit, gorilla socio-economic inequalities, gorilla detectives, Gorilla Grodd's wife and son that he expectedly treats badly, gorilla banks, etc.

Its a gorilla wonderland.

Slimcoder, I think you made me want to read Rogues. (I was planning to read it at some point anyway, but a detailed depiction of Gorilla City sounds like a pretty great idea).

I keep seeing people wondering why anti monitor isn't included in pariah posse but hw is the last person pariah would choose. Superboy prime could barely stand to work with him during sinister Corp War and turned on.him and he wasn't in charge of the team

[up][up] Oh yeah once we arrive in Gorilla City it devotes a substantial amount of pages introducing several gorilla characters aside from Grodd including a gorilla Detective who appears very relevant to the story.

Very cool stuff. Especially since the gorillas are wearing stylish 1930s threads including Grodd whose wearing a pristine white suit.

Turns out the DC heroes that just died are more likely trapped in Lotus Eater Machines, hence the 'you'll be happy' line from Pariah, as evidenced by the Flash living in one such world.

I gotta admit, I'm curious to see what these are like for each of them! It's like a team-wide Black Mercy thing.

It also seems like Morrison, as Moore did prior, is experiencing burnout on the “eternal shared universe” concept. I wonder if that influenced their retirement?

And DC doesn't care that they're probably going to butcher/are butchering the Great Darkness' characterization for their crisis. Yet again re-using the Perpetua twist of "the new big bad was behind all the Crises events all along!!!"
