A 6. It's a notch higher than the original.
Rush - One Little Victory (Remix)
Someone added this to the page as an example for Level 8. While the new version has a bit more punch to it than the original, there no way it's an 8.

Well, it has its moments (that intro and bridge, the thumping riff and overall tempo that removes it on some level from Rush's usual material), but I'd equate the heaviness in part due to the production more than anything else. You're right, though: it slows down too much to reach 8. I'll give it 7.
Here's the song which will likely take the metal category (they're in 3 categories for 13).

IMHO, it sounds like a 7.
Check out Queen's comeback single!

Amazing discovery...Definitely not the Queen I was expecting. Not sure what to rate that.
8.5 - Good proto-death/black ish thrash, really fractured riffs and constant surge rhythms give it more oomph than the average.
Adversarial - Swirling Chaos that Swallows Horizons

Only Death Is Real10, I suppose.
Dream Theater - The Enemy Inside
Can't really comment on this. It sounds like a Dream Theater song.

6.
Killswitch Engage - In Due Time
I don't think I ever got this band, but it's nice to see things working out for them, I suppose.

6 - Feels more neutered than most modern power metal to me.
Only Death Is Real10, I'd say.
Volbeat featuring King Diamond - Room 24
Here's the last of the Grammy-nominated artists this year. I don't count myself as a Volbeat fan, but this song is great, as far as I'm concerned. It's a powerful track.
Wonder how they got into contact with King Diamond?

Hard 9 all the way through.
I guess that makes Room 24 the heaviest song in the metal category. Which, we all know means it won't win...
I give Night Train a 6. Don't get me wrong, I love the song, but GNR generally stays at that level throughout just about their entire classic era (they approach 7 a few times on Chinese Democracy, though).
Anthrax - Fight 'Em 'Til You Can't
According to iTunes, I listened to this one nearly 75 times since getting it. I love this song to pieces.

An 8.
As an aside, your comment about listening to the song 75 times made me think about how even though I listen to music all the time I don't tend to listen to individual songs heavily, because I get bored with listening to the same song pretty easily. My most played song (Would? by Alice In Chains) in iTunes has only 32 plays, and I already feel like I know that song inside and out.
Anyway,
Guns n' Roses - Garden of Eden
Your previous GNR comment made me curious where this song would land, because it's more Speed Metal-ish than the rest of their "classic" output.

Fine, I'll give it a 7. I see it as a punk song more than anything else; I can't really see GNR as any kind of metal group, despite all the claims to the contrary (and don't take that as a bad thing). So even when they get heavy, it's hard for me to conceptualize them as anything but a hard rock band.
P.S: You ranked Gung Ho a 9. I kind of held it and Fight'Em 'Til You Can't in about the same range, but it's your decision and all.

7 - Pretty bare bones, mostly due to the emphasis on soloing.
Only Death Is RealHARD 10, almost 11 but doesn't start like it.
About Guns N' Roses, eh, some of "Appetite For Destruction" and the song "You Could Be Mine" is on an interesting fringe in my opinion. They ARE a hard rock band but I think some of their work could pass as traditional heavy metal and sits on a comparable 6 and 7 on the scale. "Garden Of Eden" is really fast and loud but isn't catchy in my opinion and definitely lacks a killer riff like "Welcome To The Jungle." Perfect example of why heaviness does not necessarily equal good. I don't want to talk about the new GNR because there's no Guns and half the Roses. It's Axl Rose's solo band in effect.

Either 5 or 6.
Cattle Decapitation - Forced Gender Reassignment (don't worry, this doesn't link to the music video).
9 - High speed and its got those slammy bits that bad backwards baseball cap bro death bands made popular but beyond that, it's fairly lightweight for this style with most of its riffs just kind of passing by.
Cryptopsy - Graves of the Fathers

Only Death Is RealSounds like a 10, or a hard 9 at least.

I'd say it's a 7.
The song lasts only 3:28, but it's played twice in the video.

Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveI'd say a seven too, yeah.
The White Stripes - Fell In Love With A Girl
"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."6. It's fast and noisy Pop Punk with a bluesy feel. And it's a great song.

I'm so sorry that my avatar doesn't appear fully in the shot, but the cat was threatening the photographer.Sounds like a 10 to me.
Queens of the Stone Age - Mexicola

A high 8. Pretty doomy riff, and the vocals are pretty unhinged (I mean that in a good way).
Anthrax - TNT
I thought I'd go for a theme and list some of this year's Grammy nominees, to see which is the heaviest. This particular track probably belongs in the now-gutted hard rock category, but I'm not going to complain if Anthrax get some publicity.
