Another Shade of the World - An Urban Fantasy RP

Hm... Would someone who is technically human, but has a vaguely-benevolent spirit of some kind cooped up in her head be acceptable? Something like a weird cross between Bob and a Denarian with much, much less power to throw around, sort of thing.

• Name: Lihtu du Draig
• Age: 24
• Gender: Female
• Religion: N/A
• Race: Basilisk
• Appearance: A tiny, skinny girl with caramel skin and shiny black hair, Lihtu stands maybe an inch or two short of five feet tall, weighing about ninety-five pounds. Her teeth are white and a little sharper than they should be, the only part of her that she can’t hide under a glamour, so she tries to keep her mouth closed as much as possible to hide them. This, along with her dark green eyes and slouchy posture, has a tendency to make her look rather sullen. She keeps her shiny black hair cut to about her shoulders, letting her bangs grow out a little, and tends to wear long, loose clothing when she's not in the black pants, white button-down shirt and black vest that is her uniform at work.
  Out of her glamour, Lihtu looks much more reptilian, with slit pupils, greyish scaly skin – particularly on her hands and feet and around her eyes – and vestigial wings. Her fingernails and toenails become talons, and her tongue is forked.
• Personality: Quiet when she’s not speaking and taciturn at best when she does, Lihtu is a patient and devious-minded girl. An ambush predator at heart, she likes to rely on the element of surprise in conversation; if she doesn’t get what she wants at first, she’ll withdraw a little until she’s judged she can try again. It doesn’t usually work on people smarter than kobolds, but she is persistent and inquisitive, and sometimes she lucks out. She hates being at a disadvantage in any situation, whether in a fight or in a conversation, and will retreat rather than fight things out or continue trying to talk up her position unless she’s cornered. A few patrons complain that she’s not as chatty a bartender as they’d like, but the space behind the bar is her territory, and she rules it well.
• Bio: Lihtu’s egg was laid and subsequently abandoned by her parents in the mountainous foothills to the northwest of the city, near Volwick Lake. She more or less raised herself in and around the foothills, hunting fish and small mammals and staying out of sight of the hikers and picnickers in the area, but in time she grew bored with simply living claw to mouth. Packing up her few meager possessions, she headed downriver to Volwick proper; after a difficult first few days, she managed to bully a minor ghoul out of an abandoned apartment. Soon after, she got a job as a waitress at the Catspaw, a local pub that served a clientele a little bit on the magical side, and during a particularly slow night, she and the bartender discovered that she had a knack for mixing drinks. She’s currently studying both bartending and alchemy in the city.
• Skills
  • Gaze of the Basilisk: As a basilisk, Lihtu inherits the legendary gaze of her ancestors. As a young basilisk, only small animals and fish are petrified by looking at her eyes; she can paralyze adult humans if she looks into their eyes for eight seconds, but her habit of avoiding eye contact prevents it from hindering her job.
  • Climbing: When her glamour is off, Lihtu’s talons let her scurry and scramble up and over things with great ease. With some effort, she can cling to a vertical wall if it’s made of brick or has some kind of mortar that she can sink her claws into.
  • Alcohol Alchemist: Lihtu has been studying bartending for the past three years, and alchemy for the past two. The bartending pays her bills, but she has a natural passion for alchemy, and spends most of her tips on ingredients, flasks and fuel for her potionmaking.
• Possessions and Assets: Lihtu owns a little apartment on the cheaper side of town, not too far from Catspaw, with enchanted windows so she can relax her personal glamour without fear of being seen. She has a fairly extensive alchemy lab set up in her kitchen that’s also hidden by the windows, largely because her teacher explained in detail what happens when one is suspected of running a meth lab in one’s kitchen. She keeps a small blade in a sheath in an inner pocket of her jacket.
  

Lihtu has a small store of several potions and antidotes and the like in her pantry, the number and effect of which can be decided later.

Okay this is adapted from a character i wrote for an RPG that, unfortunately because the setup was cool fell flat before it even started.

• Name: Tuck Perriman aka Rockfist
• Age: 96
• Race: Dwarf
• Gender: Male
• Religion: Nay-Theist. He's aware that there are deities out there but since they've never, to his knowledge, done anything either for or against him, he sees no reason to pay them any mind.
• Appearance: 4'5", 175 lbs, red beard kept, for a dwarf anyway short and trim which only draws attention to his truly huge mustachios. Usually wears a bandanna around his balding head, usually wears blue jeans and denim jacket over a t-shirt.
• Personality: Aggressively friendly with a can-do attitude which covers a layer of ruthlessness that in turn covers a core of honor. He'll happily use violence to get what he wants but refuses to hurt innocents.
• Bio: He's basically muscle-for hire. He prefers legit jobs like bodyguarding and repo man and is not unknown on the local MMA circuit. He used to take jobs as an enforcer for the criminal element but is trying to go legit.
• Skills: He's a skilled practitioner of a Dwarven martial art similar to MMA. He's also good with guns and melee weapons but prefers to use them only if really necessary because he considers them "cheating". In his repo man work he's picked up a working knowledge of how to pick locks and hotwire vehicles
• Possessions: A Harley chopper, customized for his size, a pair of brass knuckles, a switchblade and an automatic pistol, not all of which he carries around at the same time. In fact he keeps the pistol locked up at home. if he breaks it out you know shit has become majorly real.

Pankranton is more like boxing mixed with wrestling, an antique MMA essentially.

Yeah, it's ancient Greek MMA. Here. When the Olympics was revived it was the one sport not allowed back.

Actually, it's a common misconception that MMA is "anything goes." As shown by the mere presence of this Wikipedia page, there are plenty of regulations preventing anything too horrible from happening.

Ah, so indecisive I am.

• Name: John Daniel Moore, otherwise known as Papa Moore
• Age: 30
• Gender: Male
• Religion: Vodoun. He's a priest of the religion, serving both as a mediator to the loa and community leader amongst Volwick's poor and homeless. He'll channel on the behalf of others he deems worth-wile, the slum like areas are just where he set his foundation.
• Appearance: An african-american male standing at about six feet tall, and on the stout side for someone as poor as he is. His hair (including his large beard) is tied into long braids, hanging down towards his sternum. Trading the typical 'witch doctor' attire for the ability to walk outside without someone calling the police, John usually sports well-worn clothing from thrift stores. He'll have his favorite fur coat (which is also starting to show its age) on if it's beginning to get cold outside. Horizontal scars line the palm of his hands, if one looks closely enough. He'll adorn some more 'conventional' attire if the situation calls for it, or if he's feeling particularly theatrical that day.
• Personality: John does his best to make something good out of the world around him, carrying a strong sense of justice a and empathy for the not-so-well-off. He's an emotional person, that being said, and that can take him past what would be considered ethical by most if he feels some wrong being done. Stay on his good side and he'll be one of the sturdiest allies you know; otherwise, you've made a terrible enemy. Members of the Crime Syndicate automatically register into the latter category. Likes to share his experiences and insights with others, regardless of his disposition towards you.
• Bio: John was born a local of Volwic, to a mother who worked as a hairdresser and a father who wandered from job to job. He was born into the faith as well, his mother's side of the family having taught him the inns and outs since he was a boy (much to his father's chagrin.) His skills developed well as the years went, supplementing his family meager -and I do mean meager- income to the point that they could keep their house when his father died of a stroke. Unfortunately, that an extensive education past high school had been put off the table. John didn't mind that all that much; he saw the value of a decent education, and still puts money to the side for it even to this day, but the community gave to him and his family just as much as they'd given, if not more at times.
• Skills:
  • Voudou: While he would never use the word 'mastery', John is an adept priest of his religion, applying both light and dark Vodou disciplines in tandem to achieve his goals. At the very foundation of the faith is the channeling of the patron saints (otherwise known as loa), who represent different aspects of the world. There are things he can do of his own power (which will be explained below), but his abilities will largely hinge on the loa summoned for the situation. For example, a loa of war might increase his strength to inhuman levels. A loa of love/marriage might add a charismatic glamour to him and his words.
    • Fire/Smoke Manipulation: John can summon bouts of a mystical green flame that can damage incorporeal creatures and be difficult to put out. The smoke can conceal him and his movements completely, even dampening the sounds he makes and his smell. It's effects, however, can be lessened by magically enhanced senses. If mundane smoke and fire is in his vicinity, it's easier for him to draw from that.
    • Creatures: John can summon swarms/small groups of creatures considered to be vermin or pests, like spiders, rats, crows, and stray hounds. It's much less strenuous for him, though to draw this creatures if they are physically present. They can act as spies for him by sharing perception, or as attack creatures in the most dire situation.
    • Healing:/Medicine: John's ability to heal and heal others is magically accelerated. Otherwise fatal wounds can at least be stabilized, and wounds that'd take weeks to heal would take days. Illnesses can be purged from the body over the course of months. The presence of physical medical tools and remedies eases the process further. For example, healing a broken bone would be less difficult if the bone was set straight first.
    • 'Wards: By carving certain sigils into a surface or onto an object, John can temporarily ward it against harmful spirits or particularly malevolent physical entities. Stronger creatures may just experience discomfort in the area.
    • Astral Projection: Just what it says on the tin. John can possesses (inanimate) objects while his spirit leaves his body, but his body is left vulnerable to both physical harm and possession while his spirit is gone.
    • Flight: While he cant exactly fly yet, John can float well enough to mitigate a nasty fall, or ride a strong current of air to a desired destination. A sudden change of wind direction can be unfortunate (read: hilarious).
    • Sympathetic Magic: John's ability to affect a person with a spell/curse/hex is rendered more potent if he's acquired a personal possession of theirs, or a part of their body.
  • Carpentry: He's receiving lessons in it from a homeless man in exchange for his occasional service. Vodou has perks.
• Possessions/Assets: He has the respect of many of the city's homeless and poor, who can serve as a information network for him. His home is filled with varying herbal and holistic remedies, as well as a few wards against evil. His shrine is located at an abandoned warehouse.

• Gender:Female
• Religion:Finds religion to be a waste of energy, but doesn't deny the existence of supernatural beings.
• Race:Human/Spirit?
• Appearance:Here you go!◊
• Personality:Caring but arrogant, aloof but nosy, she's a living contradiction. To those she doesn't know Shauna would seem to be an extremely abrasive person, and perhaps she is. However she has a side of her that just won't allow her to leave others alone.
• Bio:As little girl Shauna was possessed by a malevolent spirit. Not being one to simply give up she fought against the spirit for control. The spirit not expecting that from a child couldn't defend itself in time and the two of them merged into one being, effectively killing them both and giving birth to the Shauna we know today. These days she's working as a medium.
• Skills:She's proficient at sewing and communing with spirits thanks to her bond to the other side. Should she have to she can affect other's perception within a limited range, perhaps the size of a room. She can also cause things to levitate or move on their own, however its limited to things she can actually lift/move and expends about the same amount of effort.
• Assets:In a city of the supernatural many people seem to show an interest in fortune telling which gives her a good bit of change to carry around. She's got an apartment downtown, and a Chrysler 300. Additionally she carries a pair of strangely shaped scissors with her.

• Appearance: "You'd better take responsibility!...Just kidding!"
• Personality: Maria looks like the absolute sweetest, cutest, nicest girl you could possibly meet. But when she opens her mouth, she can be a bit confrontational and abrasive. She always has something to say. She is very deterministic and doesn't like things to be kept from her. Her curiosity often gets the better of her, and she doesn't really think things through to well, letting her emotions direct her actions. She is often naive, but has a growing motherly instinct.
• Bio: Maria has spent her entire life in this town, and up until a couple of months ago, things have gone absolutely to plan. She got perfect grades, had plenty of friends, was popular, she was a cheerleader and a member of her student council, and she was definitely going places. But, after a large party that many of her peers attended, she had a terrible, vivid dream of destruction, monsters, demons, ghosts, and plenty of other-worldly occurrences. Over the next few weeks, she got all the signs. Sickness, nausea, and she was very much late. After a trip to the doctor's, it was confirmed. Maria was pregnant. At first, she completely denied it. She was a virgin, and she doesn't remember any boy that did this to her! And her friends confirmed that they took her home. So it had to have happened while she was sleeping at home. Those facts, combined with her strange dream made her sure of one thing: her child was not human. It was something else...She is sure that her baby is some kind of supernatural creature, and she is determined to discover what, and who the father is.
• Skills: Before the pregnancy, she was a great acrobat and dancer. Besides that, she is pretty knowledgeable for a high-school student, and she can be charming and sweet to get her way or appear weak.
• Possessions and Assets: She has her own car, and a growing collection of baby stuff.
