So, I'm working on a setting which is similar in both setting and plot to a mash-up of The Secret World and Cthulhutech and I only have a few bits of information that I consider acceptable to work with, which is next to none.

I have a good deal of things I need to address. Suggestions and ideas are appreciated. There's no need to address them all at once, a few at a time is enough. You may also have to do some research if you want to understand what I'm typing

  • I want to keep the secret society aspect of The Secret World in the story. I've mostly been using thinly veiled names for parallels of the societies, like The Order in place of the Templars, but I'm at a loss for parallels of the Illuminati and the Dragon.
  • I want to include Tager and Dhohanoid parallels, as my character is a Tager and I was already a fan of Guyver, which they are based off of. I was thinking of giving the Tager-like beings to the secret societies as opposed to to forming a group of their own.
  • Since Cthulhutech has the Chrysalis Corporation and The Secret World has the Orochi Corporation, I wanted to create a sort of combination of the two, something of a company slightly trusted by the public, but delving into the occult and also with evil symbiote creatures. I'm also perfectly fine with parallels to both companies if that's a better idea. There would still be a parallel of the Ashcroft Foundation, but I just need a name for that.
  • I'm think of making a parallel of the Morninglight group and/or the Phoenicians, but I have some doubts.
  • On the subject of gods: I want to limit myself to four mythologies, plus the Great Old Ones, demons and God (Who has taken a serious power level drop). I'm definitely sure that I want to include Norse and Egyptian mythology, but I'm not sure on the other two.
  • I need to make an enemy or two of sorts, and I definitely know if I want to include a cosmic evil like The Filth, but I'm hesitant to add something like the Mi-Gou to the mix
  • I'm not sure if I want to add a Nazzadi parallel, but I'm leaning toward it.
  • I'd like to add something akin to Agartha, but I'm thinking like an actual city environment (As opposed to trees and branches), along with a different name (Avalon maybe?).
  • References! I want to make it like in The Secret World where they're more subtle as opposed to "In your face, here's an Indiana Jones reference." Tips on that would be nice.

I will be adding more issues I need to address later down the line, but this should be sufficient right now. Again, suggestions and ideas are appreciated.

I have to admit I only have passing knowledge of CT and passing even less of TSW But I'm Happy to offer feedbacksmile

What's your over aim of the setting? Was there any particular concert you wanted to explore I combined in the two settings?

If you don't mind stepping on a few toes, I certainly think Angels, Devils and Squid would be interesting done Seriously.

Cthulhutech has Christianity and all the other world religions quietly disbanding when the old ones make a return accepting they backed the wrong horse. Which more than a few people consider to be incredibly unrealistic. Having The Catholic Church go militant and wage a secret war agaist insidious new religion Would make for some interesting grey and grey morality. Especially if they're have their strings pulled by some mysterious third party.

[up] Actually, Angels, Devils and Squid is one of my favorite tropes. I had the intention of it being part of the setting in the first place.

On the subject of the church: I guess it makes sense that they might go militant. They could end up being their own secret society in time.

So one question. Are you changing the names from your original source?

Is your setting just taking inspiration from the two or are you doing a straight crossover.

[up] The former. I figure that combining two concepts would produce a new result.

[up] Yeah. Anyway, I realized that leaving out a Mi-Go equivalent would be better. Best to have a single enemy (The equivalent of the Filth in TSW) to have a force to rally against.

Definitely don't include them if you don't think they'll do anything. Trim the fat is good design philosophy
