Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayPost of the Day #2626

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI know that says it's from the old thread, but that sounds like what Snowfall Frost did in "A Hearth's Warming Tale". Except what she did (getting rid of Hearth's Warming Eve because she didn't like it) is portrayed as being wrong. It does make me wonder what episode that post is referring to, though. (if it even is referring to a canon MLP episode)

I checked, and it turns out to be referring to the infamous censoring of Derpy in The Last Roundup. I would not have guessed that.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayOh no, where we will be without our insulting to the mentally disabled Muffins.
Is this the same person who would complain about Confederacy statues being torn down?

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. The issue is that many people (myself included) didn't consider it to be an insult in the first place, or implying that she was disabled.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI think I saw the initial voice.
Nothing of value was lost, I can assure you.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Truth!
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. From what I heard, the issue with the initial voice is that there was confusion about Derpy's gender, so they gave her a male voice.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayReally I much prefer the version we got for Slice of Life.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Original actress thought she was auditioning for a male character.
Also, the dialogue and voice coming off as stereotypically “retarded”.
We actually talked about it here.

So do I.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. Why? Goofy voice, weird behavior, called SNAILS.
Nobody, EVER, called Derpy such as an insult.
That's why derpygate happened. It was an overreaction on part of Hasbro.
Snips and Snails and puppy-dog tails.
Meanwhile, girls are made of sugar and spice and everything.
It’s why he’s called snails and hangs with a pony called Snips.
How is “Snails” more insulting?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Plus, "derpy" doesn't have a non-derogatory meaning (even if it's not being used as an insult for people with intellectual disabilities, it still refers to someone being goofy or making silly mistakes), whereas "snails" could refer to the animal. That, combined with the specific voice used in the initial airing of "The Last Round-Up", and also with Derpy's crossed eyes, is what led people to view her as being an insulting caricature of intellectual disability.
"Snails" could be possibly used as an insult towards someone, but that's not the only way the word could be used.

By the way, has anyone seen Gingerninja? He was supposed to submit his Round Robin chapter two days ago and he hasn't responded to my PM.

What about Ditzy Doo then? That's a name the writers made up themselves, but "ditz" is always derogatory in that sense.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayMeh, don't have any interest in seeing this conversation go any further. Dropping out.
She will always be Derpy to me.
Cool story, bro.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Yes, that one is an insult too, the main difference being that "derp" or "derpy" has been used to specifically mock people with intellectual disabilities (so far as I've read about it online), whereas "ditzy" refers to more general foolishness/forgetfulness (although that could still be seen as a reference to her mane color, since it's often used to describe Dumb Blonde characters). So that's probably why more people were offended by the name "Derpy" being used in the show rather than "Ditzy Doo".
Notably, at the time the big controversy over "The Last Round-Up", I remember at least one article that argued that the way the re-dubbed version took out some of Derpy's more obviously "disabled" traits (the edits didn't just change her voice, but uncrossed her eyes in at least some parts) resulted in less representation for disabled people, even if that representation was a caricature. That was of course before Scootaloo's inability to fly got confirmed, along with Tempest Shadow (broken horn) and Kerfluffle (prosthetic leg) appearing in notable roles as well as that one pony in a wheelchair from "Trade Ya".

I wonder what kids think of this episode. It's all over the place in terms of how mature it wants to be about it's subject matter. Predators don't eat prey, except when they do. The snake is really threatening, but eating another creature is played for laughs, and the snake switches between threatening and friendly several times.
Optimism is a duty.
