It might be worth adding the season 9 premier to that last, since it's the first time Discord uses his powers against the main villain, albeit with extreme reluctance. And it shows more explicitly that he's trying to help Twilight grow.

feel weird honestly. Seeing the dissilutioned reactions by some people.

Honestly… Uprooted is the episode I’ve thought about the most of the 4 episodes that have come out so far.

Like, I dunno. I don’t want to say I don’t care about the mane 6. Cuz that’s not true. But I DO care about the new stuff as well. And seeing some people who are downright DISGUSTED that episodes are focusing on anything OTHER than the mane 6 is freaking me out.

Nor am I. I've been saying for a while now that the biggest weakness in season eight was an unwillingness to commit to the Students as the new cast of protagonists.

It's just some people on derpibooru.

"I’ve never disliked an episode, I’ve watched every season multiple times, but damn is my heart breaking with every new episode title/synopsis we get.

The school was okay at first but this is getting insane. I just wanted some comfy pony episodes for the final season, hell, did they really introduce the league of villains to give them one mid season episode and nothing else? I thought they’d be sprinkled throughout the season. I thought the girls we grew up with would get some new adventures, some fun times, that maybe Rarity would hold her first own fashion show- running it, that coco would come to display clothes there. I thought we’d get Pinkie Pie getting her own party place, something, anything other than just student six.

The fact they used them over the mane 6 to mourn the tree was insulting enough, now I just feel sad. I’m only alive to see the final season then I’m leaving, but man, my heart hurts seeing these. I hope they’re okay. I don’t want the final season to leave a bad taste."

I’m only alive to see the final season then I’m leaving

Hopefully, that was just a poor choice of words, since it comes across as a suicide threat.

Anyway, I agree that the shift to the Student 6 was handled poorly. The show can't make up its mind about whether the Students are supposed to be the new main characters or not, and the Mane 6 still act up despite supposedly being the teachers. And of course, there's lots of Fridge Logic behind the Suddenly Playset, such as how the mane 6 are able to teach all the time despite having finally achieved their career aspirations, which at least in Rarity's case, rendered her too busy to even see her own sister.

But that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy the show. It's best to just relax and not worry about what other people are saying.

I think he's just being melodramatic about being on the verge of quitting the show and Derpibooru altogether.

Also, it bears mentioning that we are NOT Derpibooru on here, so referring to comments on another forum without actually mentioning that is rather confusing.

And people on here have generally been positive, if a little disappointed, about the Student Six.

I totally agree that the Tree being mourned by the Students isntead of the mane cast was a mistake, by the way. That was just a poor choice of topic for a Students episode.

I think it makes sense, since they did get the whole Magic Dream Quest with the tree last season.

I guess, but it would have made even more sense for the mane six to be there, too.

I feel like that episode was another step towards turning the Students into new element bearers.

Post of the Day #2498

@ Ginger Hey friend! It was hard...real hard. I'm 50/50 on it myself. And hey, good luck with your portfolio! @ Kayeka Thanks! I'll try there. I've done a lot of soul searching this week, and I've come to a conclusion. I'm 22 years of age. I'm young, reasonably fit, and reasonably smart. I can do anything (except maybe graduate University). So if the worst comes to the worst, I'll train to do my other thing... ...I'll try to become a cop. Edit: @ Seraphem Ohh...sorry to hear about the dental work.

Also, it bears mentioning that we are NOT Derpibooru on here, so referring to comments on another forum without actually mentioning that is rather confusing.

It's specifically importing drama, which is a violation of our forum policy.

I guess, but it would have made even more sense for the mane six to be there, too.

I feel like that episode was another step towards turning the Students into new element bearers.

It totally was another step towards passing the torch to the Students.

But apart from that, I don't think the Manes did need to be there. This was an episode about learning how to cope with the loss of a loved one, as told through the lens of rehashing "Castle Sweet Castle". Having the Manes here would have made the episode significantly more obnoxious.

At a Watsonian level, it's fine for them to be excluded because we see they're already coping with the loss. At least, we see that with Twilight. She's dealing with it. She's okay. And the same can be assumed for the others. Whereas the Students are just learning about this for the first time, the Manes were standing right there while it happened. The Manes have had time to resolve their feelings.

At a Doylist level, involving the Manes would make the fact that they're just repeating the conflict from Castle Sweet Castle really annoying and a lot more noticeable. I was already cracking jokes about how the Students apparently aren't actually learning anything at the school, but I would have been much more aggravated if it was the teachers explicitly, demonstrably failing to learn their own lesson and just doing a point-by-point repeat of something they've already f*cked up before.

A Necessary Weasel for a story about learning moral lessons is that the characters must, by definition, be people in need of learning those lessons. The teachers have already been down this road. For that reason, they shouldn't qualify for protagonist status in this particular plot.

... oooh. So this is an overdue library book plot. You know that traditionally a book is your's if it's overdue after a certain amount of time? Eeeeeeh. Not too into that, but maybe this will still be a good episode.

More old scenes we saw before.

... Twilight it's been years. Dusty Pages may not be there anymore. Who knows what changes occurred at the library since then!?

Wow. This library is making her feel REALLY guilty, which isn't helping. Wait. She's STILL the best book-borrower!? Did no one else take up the mantel since!?

UUUUH no. I know this is played for laughs, but this is NOT how libraries work.

Why is Spike mistaken for an Indian restaurant waiter?

Moondancer! :D

.... this has to be a prank. NO entire city would have it out for one pony. Maybe it's because she's the princess?

I cannot buy that a librarian would lose her job and possibly ruin her life out of one late library book, even IF she had a perfect record! Late books happen all the time! And if Twilight did do that to her, why IS HER PHOTO STILL HANGING ON THE DESK OVER THE BEST BOOK-BORROWER PLAGUE!? Shouldn't they realize how late the book is and take her picture down?

Hahaha that horse has a weird nose.

There she is!

Twi you shouldn't interrupt the band practice like that.

Twi maybe you need to realize that Dusty DOESN'T want her job back? She clearly moved on.

:D A fruit shooting tournament! Love it.

Haha Twilight didn't even read it. Oh the irony.

Eh. This is probably the first Season 9 episode that actually made me angry.

Well this episode was weird. At the beginning it seemed like it couldn't make up its mind about whether to snark about the strangeness or embrace it. And the searching montages felt like gratuitous padding.

There's also some fridge logic. For example, how could one book ruin the librarian's perfect record if people make mistakes all the time? Presumably, the record was actually "all books returned in less than a month" or something like that.

Twilight's late fee calculations also made sense, but then again she didn't seem to know the rules anyway.

All the things I WANTED the show to acknowledge happened at the very end, not at the beginning, where the characters SHOULD'VE known if they had .... used basic logic.

Also, the G1 reference thing was pretty weird. Is My Little Pony now canon inside of the show? That just raises so many questions.

Also, is it me or has season 9 been bigger on the Deadpan Snarker and lampshade hanging stuff? There was a bunch in the opener, and then Spike was unusually snarky at the beginning of this episode.
