Spike IS objectively better, or at least very different, in focus episodes. When he is not in focus, he is generally more helpful and insightful, to the point of regularly being the voice of reason. When he is the focus of an episode, however, he tends to become more of a buttmonkey to the plot, will be more clueless and naive, and will be the unreasonable party.
And yes, you certainly CAN say objective things about the quality of an episode.
But I get the feeling this "hot take" was not made in good faith.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play...Alright, can we all agree that we shouldn't converse about this anymore before it stops being an argument and starts being a battle where the only priority is getting the last word?
Because, yes, thoughts on a story's quality is subjective, not objective, ergo, not a fact. It is not subjective that the Earth is round nor is it objective to say that dark souls is not good.
But, Chariot, you started this by saying that "there's nothing wrong with Spike episodes and they're actually pretty good". You started off with a subjective opinion and when you ended it with "they're just not the right kind of episodes for you", it comes off (I'm constantly saying "seems and "comes off" because I will give you the benefit of doubt about it not being intentional) as dismissive of differing opinions in an disrespectful attempt in defending said stories.
We may have different opinions and different reasons for those opinions about certain stories but saying "it's not for you" is not the right way to argue your opinion because it does not actually argue, it does not actually address what problems anybody had with those stories.
Now, let's converse about another thing more worth our time: discord in a mecha fighter!
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. Is that Discord in a mecha, fighting things, or Discord in a (Mecha fighting game)?
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayHim in a Mecha, Gundam style.
...My Little Pony and Gundam. Chew on that for a bit.
Edit: Huh. I searched for "Mecha fighter discord mlp" and I actually got results.
I was not under an impression that I was the only person who came up with such an idea but it still took me in the back of the head that there were actual results in seconds.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.I apologize for a double post but I feel this is vital enough for it.
Nobody here is obligated to argue if they do not want to. If you do not want to argue back, then say "I do not want to argue, can we converse about anything else" or to that effect.
It's not a rule so much as advice of a sort.
Edit: However, if you choose to argue back, you must give reasons. No opinions should be left with no justification.

"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeYou know what, no. I want Discord as this massive kaiju fighting all the other normal characters in their gundams.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...I still wanna see Cozy scuttling around in Tirek's shoulders if they break out of Tartarus together.
Kaze ni Nare!Reminds me a bit of Lyra's Pacific Rim dream with Bonbon in the round robin (hint hint).
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayOkay hear me out: Discord as a massive Kaiju who is also in a Gundam.

This song needs more love. Why not discord as a living Gundam?!

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayAnd then RBD got her actual animal companion next season.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit. You know, ever since yesterday, thoughts have been brewing in my head about a fusion crossover between My Little Pony and Gundam (not any particular Gundam series but with Gundam in general.)
And it could work a bit.
I'll elaborate later.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Come to think of it, has Winona ever done much or been a major part of any story? I dont know why she was included in the show at all.
She was included so everyone could have a pet. Because there was some (real or imaginary) List Of Things the show should have, and one of the items was "main cast must have pets". Notice that they had the greatest trouble, apparently, giving Dash a pet, and ended up not bothering until later in the show.
Optimism is a duty.I think it was always a toy merchandize motivated decision.
Fluttershy toys came almost always had a bunny. And at least one of the older AJ sets came with a puppy (similar in color to Winona). And there was that RD toy that came with a turtle way before Tank was even conceptualized.
Later toy batches with accessories came with show-accurate models of the pets.

I think it was part toy-driven, and part fleshing out just what kind of show they wanted it to be.
Optimism is a duty.A number of the odd choices are definitely explained by the show being Merchandise-Driven. The pets of course, but also the Young Six, the Rainbow Power thing which was forgotten as soon as possible, and so on. I heard a rumor that the reason Cadence was an alicorn is because there were a whole bunch of Celestia toys that were made pink on accident, so they needed a pink alicorn, but I don't know if that's true.
Of course, whether those things were bad is up for debate. The Young Six are popular, and I think the Tank episodes were pretty good. The writers just mostly seem to ignore the pets unless forced to, which makes them seem unnecessary.

Tank For The Memories is one of the show's best. As little focus as it gets, RD and Tank had such an amazing relationship. It melts my heart.
Lots of Tank love in EQG recently (the pets tend to show up more there, even if they don't do a lot).
I heard a rumor that the reason Cadence was an alicorn is because there were a whole bunch of Celestia toys that were made pink on accident, so they needed a pink alicorn, but I don't know if that's true.
It wasn't an accident. The issue is that retailers refused to stock white Celestia toys on the assumption that they would only appeal to girls if they were pink. Which is why the early Celestia toys were pink. Apparently, introducing a pink alicorn allowed them to also have a white alicorn for some reason.

I'm pretty nervous about the way things are going as well. I hope this doesn't devolve into an argument.
Anyway, I think there is merit to both arguments. Taste is subjective, but it is also not useful to act like that means nothing matters and everything is equally good. At the very least, you can talk about the way that the way that groups of people reacted to something, and if most people think something is bad, it is useful to note that, even if you personally disagree.
Going by the way people talk about it online, you'd think Castlevania (2017) is the best show ever, but I was bored while watching it to the point where I almost fell asleep. There's no reason those can't both be true.
