I noticed there were a lot more crystals on the rock farm recently.

Perhaps they are mining crystals for their rock dragon?

And now I am furious at that side of Tumblr again. People have made an artist attempt to commit suicide because they did not like her art. Even the Steven Universe creators (who she did a lot of fan art for) are horrified by what has been going on. I seriously hope they find the people who keep doing this shit.

If anyone has anything, anything that could defuse fury, now would be the good time to use it. This has happened way too frequently recently.

I heard about that. And the little shitheads don't even have the decency to feel sorry about it! Sadly, I've not come to expect any better out of that side of Tumblr. Sociopaths, all of them.

I just hope it doesn't sour the crew on fan material. Tumblr jerks just aren't worth fighting with, people shouldn't try to reply to them, nor should the apathetics just assume everyone is responsible. They need to learn how to just not feed them.

That's what things like the Ignore button and the Banhammer are for.

And if a fan's artistic interpretation of a character makes you so irrationally angry you feel the need to harass and send death threats, maybe go outside for a while.

I've been seeing quite a bit of it recently, and no sir, I don't like it.

And now some of those assholes are crying that they don't feel "safe" since the Crewniverse said that fanartists can draw characters however they want. I just feel like yelling, "GOOD! We don't want you here!"

And honestly, if someone has issues with how an artist is drawing a character, they should give them constructive criticism, like giving them tutorials on how to draw heavier characters or something. Harassments and death threats are not constructive criticism.

On the other hand, I'm really side-eyeing the people who are using this debacle as an excuse to purposefully draw Rose and Amethyst skinny "in support" of Zamii. That's...that's really not how you should be going about doing that. It skeeves me out, honestly.

It isn't just "that side" of Tumblr. By design Tumblr breeds these behaviors. The blog structure makes it easy to scroll over something, find a thing to be outraged by, and go nuts without checking or research. The reblogging system that makes it easy to spread that thing so other people could get similarly outraged leads into mass rages at clockwork regularity. Because a reblog posts the entire thing in your feed, thus allowing easy access for your own followers to enter the fray, any kind of drama can and often does become a case of mass harrassment.

And it's very easy to cause drama, because of the trigger system that the community abides by. Every single thing can become a "trigger", so something that should have been used the same way age ratings are used(a general warning about content), becomes a game of "Hmm, what do I get offended by today"? Anyone who doesn't cater to some random's sensibility 100% is suddenly a bigot piece of shit, cue mass harrassment.

These are the people who need trigger warnings over everything that they might feel remotely uncomfortable about. They're so messed-up they can't handle the world around them, so they rage against anything that nudges on their little echo chamber. The site and the community is turning them into sheltered thin-skinned man-woman-other-children, absolutely unprepared for the real world.

The site is a system that breeds and encourages twitchy behavior, turning impressionable teens against one another and feeding on their raging immaturity. Just like how 4chan hosts misogynists, racists, and other pieces of evil garbage for a reason, tumblr attracts its audience for a reason too. It's not just some vocal minority. The site itself is toxic as fuck.

I think the worst part about tumblr is how easy it is to create an echo chamber based on the fact that you can pick and choose what appears on your dash. It causes people to be encouraged to become outraged at incredibly minor slights, since everyone else on their dash does it, and causes them to become more entrenched in their incredibly toxic and overly sensitive viewpoints. They feel more justified in viciously attacking someone for something that no one in their right minds would get offended over. I never fail to be shocked at what people on that site will deem offensive, and I'm an overly sensitive person myself!

Uh, I'd disagree with that. It's definitely just a minority. A very vocal minority that has a lot of impact on the general community, but a minority nonetheless.

Though the way the site is set up certainly allows for that minority to be echoed very loudly.

Saying that tumblr doesn't have a large community based around that would be wrong, too. But on tumblr does not mean raging SJW.

"On 4chan" doesn't technically mean "scumbag misogynist" too. But there's a reason the two are deeply assosiated. 4chan's system is designed for a specific audience, intentional or not. So is tumblr's.

Jitterbug Jive puts it best here in fewer words than I.

Immediately going #Not All Tumblr or dismissing with "it's a minority" excuses the site from any responsibility when there are clear systemic reasons for why it is this way.

Honestly, I have systemic issues with TV Tropes too.(though I'll get banned for stating them, so excuse me) Sites attract specific audiences and behaviors due to the way they're designed and it should be acknowledged.

If there was ever a list of 'completely justified reasons to tell people to kill themselves' (and I hope there isn't), I'd think most people would still frown upon 'I don't agree with your fan art'.
