Guess I'll stop for now. There's a lot of places I could visit, though I'm not sure if I should or just head straight for the floating contient.

Do your exploration now. The next story sequence is very, very long.

And yeah, Sketch mimics a random attack from the enemy. It's pretty much useless as an ability, except to glitch the game for any% with Sketch speed runs. She can, however, get a Relic later on that upgrades it to something much more usable (depending on the enemies you're fighting, of course).

You'd think that the shopkeepers would do a double take at a 10 year old girl walking in to buy a bunch of swords. But buisness is buisness I guess.

Pssh, what are you talking about? In fantasy worlds, 10-year-olds are clearly fighters in their prime. If anything, they should be batting an eye at all those 20-year-old characters in your party trying to buy stuff, since they're washed-up old veterans due to die any day now. tongue

Damn, things are about to go down. Well, once the Floating Continent is approached.

@Irish. Maybe you might want to give 6 a try? Because things are going to get very spoilerish if you read Story's posts after this.

Did you get the esper in Tzen?

Oh, is that what the glowy rock is? Well no, I haven't been able to find the seller, despite searching Tzen several times.

Going to there is a point of no return and a lot of stuff becomes Lost Forever after you go up to it if you don't do it now.

I suspected as much. I just wasn't sure if there was anything else worth doing before I go there.

My character levels; Edgar (18), Locke (19), Sabin (20), Mog (23), and everyone else is 22.

How is that even possible? My Locke was level 23 when starting the Crescent Island subplot. And Terra was 29.

Because things are going to get very spoilerish if you read Story's posts after this.

Technically, all of my LP posts have been spoiler tagged. It's just the side discussion like this which isn't.

OOC: Two things; I don't get lost and thereby cause accidental grinding and I don't play a Sabin only run as you seem to be doing.

As for the esper in Tzen, you can find the seller in the woods in the upper right corner of the town. You should see something moving there.

So do you think Scootaloo's new cutie mark means she's destined to fly someday or does it mean that her wings provide the horse power needed to do her stunts.

If the CMC's talent is telling other ponies what their cutie mark means and the inner symbols mean something, then Scoots's talent is telling other pegasi how to fly without being able to fly herself.tongue

Final Fantasy 6: I searched through my previous posts to find where the painter was who had a commission from the empire. Apparently he was in Albrook, which I already searched, so whoever it was, he's not talking about painting any more.

I also looked through my old savestates. I have one from near the beginning of the factory with Celes lvl27, so she probably was lvl28 when she left. I must have misremembered her level and gotten it mistaken with Sabin.

Anyway, there's lots of stuff I still need to check up on in the world before heading to the floating contient. First stop is Tzen, because someone told me where the glowy thing seller is. Apparently, he's hiding in the woods in the north of town.

Obtained Seraph magacite. There's one empty spot in the bottom row, so I feel like there's a third esper I'm supposed to get somewher.

So... the Veldt. I don't want to do any grinding because intentional grinding feels dirty and besides, I'm sure that I'm higher level than you're supposed to be already. But you don't get any XP in the veldt, and I figured I should see how Gau's Jump thing works. Plus, it should give me the opportunity to teach some random spells to everyone in case that comes in handy some day.

Seraph seems like the perfect healing Esper. Raise, Cura, and Esuna.

I have to temporarily put everyone who has an esper in my party so I can unequip them though. Espers yonked off Terra, Locke, and Strago.

Hey, Gau joined after the very next battle. I thought it was supposed to tkae longer than that, based on the way the imp made it sound.

Relm keeps trying to sketch Gau, but it never does anything.

This is the first time that Gau didn't return after the first battle. I wonder what went wrong.

4 battles now and Gau still hasn't shown up. What's going on?

He's not on the airship either. Is this a glitch?

Oh finally, he's back! That was 6 battles I think. Gave me a firght since he only took 1 every other time.

I still don't really understand Setzer's Slots. Does it just cast random spells?

For some reason Gau is floating in the air now.

Setzer keeps pulling a bunny out that says mugu mugu and heals everyone.

Oops. Accidently managed to attack Gau and do actual damage. Instead of joining me, he yelled at me to go away from the Veldt then ran off.

Luckily he rejoins as soon as you fail to attack him.

Well noone's learning spells fast this way. Time to stop leaping and just pwn everything.

Gave Gau the Dragoon boots, but it doesn't seem to have had any effect. Guess he can Leap but not Jump.

Why does Gau start levitation once he uses Rage? And why does that persist from battle to battle?

Oh, it's probably a status condition of some kind.

It's a good thing the emulator can fast forward, because this would take forever otherwise.

Relm and Sabin finished Madiun and Serph respectively. Time to swap out espers.

Apparently, Gil Toss does in fact cost money. About 800 per shot from the look of it.

Time to see what happens if you fill up with 4 party members while Gau is out in the veldt.

Relm appears to have sketched something which actually healed all the enemies. Wow.

Been fighting for ages and Gau still hasn't come back. Guess he just doesn't show up when the party is full.

Finally got everyone done training. Sabin, Relm, and Celes all now know Raise, Cura, and Esuna, among other spells. Also, I decided to let Gau back into the party. Of course the question is now what. Guess it's time to check up on the rest of the contient.

n.b. Terra also knows Raise Cura and Esuna, but she already knew them anyway. They also all learned a bunch of random other spells while waiting for each other to finish with the healing stuff.

Now Relm and Sabin are going to go exploring. First stop: Checking up on the cave of Crescent Isle to see if anything's new.

There's one chest there I never did figure out how to get.

There were apparently multiple chests I missed. Obtained X Potion, Chocobo Suit and Tabby Suit. I wonder what the later two do.

They're apparently for Relm. Not sure if there's supposed to be a cosmetic difference, but if so, I don't see it.

Ok, next stop: Mobilz.

Just stocked up on dried meat. I now have 99 potions, 99 dried meat, and 99 hi-potions.

Young Lad has more mail.

Now I need to look for Nikeah. I couldn't actually find it on the map before. I'm a bit suspicious of it, since it has a chocobo stables despite there being no other reachable locations on its pennisula.

Doma Castle is still off limits. Guess that's one place the empire isn't withdrawing from.

"The route north is finally clear again" <— well that would explain it.

Nothing new with Aged Man.

You know, I wonder who Relm's real parents were.

Once again, the Returner welcomes Relm back, despite this being her first time to the hideout.

I see Gestahl kept his word about pulling out of South Figaro.

"The man at the counter... Hey, where'd he go!" <— just how long has this NPC been sitting in the bar? Shadow hasn't been here for weeks. Unless he came back here after dieing and then just left a moment ago.

Cider Guy is gone. The bartender won't talk to Relm.

Just noticed that Shadow still appears in the shop menu. Any doubts I had about his survival are now gone.

Sabin just hit level 37. Relm is 26.

Was rich guy's secret passage always like that? I could have sworn the last bit changed. There's still that second staircase I cen't get to.

That staircase is such a tease. Especially how they have a secret passage that just dead ends.

"This town's defenses are tight. Even with their Magitek armor, the Imperials won't find it easy to get inside." <— Seriously? The NPC is still saying that after the empire invaded then left?

I just realized that the inaccessible second staircase at the end of the secret passage is actually the basement of Duncan's house. It has a savepoint that's only visible when you're in Duncan's house though.

There's an abandond suit of magitek armor still in the town.

Well I guess that's it for South Figaro. Next up, Narshe.

Lone Wolf was sighted in town recently. Did he come back?

Don't see anything new here.

Nothing new in Kohligen.

The inn in Vector is deserted. Aww man, no more free inns!

Actually, it appears that the entire city is deserted, even the shops and inn.

I mean even the shops and palace.

The basement of the Imperial Observation Post is still locked. And the post is deserted too.

Well I guess I'll stop for now, since I'm still not sure if I should head to the flying continent yet, but there doesn't seem to be much else to do. I guess I'll just list every unresolved subplot or piece of content I can think of.

Dragon Neck's collosseum. The Yeti. Young Lad and Lola. That mysterious island in the northeast. The basement of the Imperial Observation Post.

@Story: OOC: Yeah, the Floating Continent is the only place left to go at this point. The imperial outpost can't be accessed. Had you done well at the dinner scene, you would have be given access. It's not like you missed anything of worth. You would have gotten some money, good healing items, and some relics that you can get at the auction house. The other things you listed won't be relevant for a while.

As for Gau's status effects, he gets whatever statuses based on the rage you are using.

Setzer's slots are random but I would say it is worth it. The attacking moves do come up often, have no cost to them, and are pretty powerful. The rabbit, as you found out, will heal you and remove poison, blind, and sleep. Getting three icons will yield different non-elemental attacks. See here for details. The only moves I don't think you will ever see are 7|7|7 and 7|7|bar due to some programming thing.

I think you can un-rig the slots by using an Echo Herb on Setzer at the start of a fight. But that glitch may be fixed in whatever version you're playing. I'm not sure.

Story: The time it takes for Gau to return is random. There's a chance that I don't remember the percentage for that he'll return every time a battle is finished on the Veldt. I think you were just getting lucky a whole bunch then really unlucky once.

Also, the ultimate and epic fail slot combinations can be seen when playing regularly, but the game is programmed to rig the slots to make it impossible right at the start of the battle. What happens is there's a memory value that determines which slot combinations are possible to get a stop on. This value changes every time Setzer uses Slots or someone uses an item. With knowledge of the values, it's easy to manipulate it, but otherwise, it's going to be somewhat random what's possible to get. That aside, if a combination is allowed by the memory value, the rest of it comes down to having good timing on the button presses.

Well, I'm back from throwing my party at Exdeath over and over. Given that this is a Final Fantasy game, I'm going to assume that it's not a spoiler that the final boss has two different forms.

Anyway, long story short, I can beat his first form with just a little difficulty, but I still haven't been able to keep his second form from destroying me within five minutes. After a few defeats, I tried looking around for good strategies on him, and they all seem to assume that the player had the foresight to get all the Game-Breaker skills by leveling jobs in a certain way throughout the game.

I figured I needed to do some grinding in order to stand a chance, and while the random encounters here on the final boss's doorstep offer fairly good experience and job point yields, I can't grind on them effectively because they are still quite capable of destroying me (I pretty much have to pray that I survive if I run into a squad of Mindflayers). So, I decide to teleport out of the dungeon and try some grinding elsewhere.

And then I find out that my Teleport spell is disabled.

So, I trek all the way back through the final dungeon. By the time I finally get out, I'm completely out of healing supplies, and my party is barely standing. At least I already took care of those minibosses, I won't have to fight them again on my way back.

Yeah, I read about it on the page that Orion linked to. You have to use an Echo Screen at the start of battle and then pause and unpause carefully to line everything up. I don't think I'll bother. It's a lot easier to just use Cyan or something.

Hey, all. I've been out of it, and couldn't catch the episode when it aired. So I went and watched it right now. I heard some rumblings about how this episode shook up the CMC status quo, but I managed to avoid being spoilered beyond that. So, my thoughts on Indiana Jones and the Last Cutie Mark Crusade:

  • That’s a remarkably short start-to-song time. Is this going to be another musical episode?
  • Vote for Pipsqueak, and your wildest dreams will come true.
  • The votes have been counted already? I was expecting the campaign to last all episode. Wait a second... fast pace, two songs already... this is “Magical Mystery Cure” all over again! Crap, they really are going to make some sweeping change to the status quo!
  • Also, I don’t recall DT being quite this much of a jerk to SS in the past.
  • Wow. Spoiled Rich. We’ve been wondering for seasons how DT wound up such a jerk in spite of her dad being a good guy. We wonder no longer. Of course, that raises the question of why Filthy Rich married such a witch in the first place. (wild mass guess It was the upper-class equivalent of a shotgun wedding.)
  • And you can’t have a chase scene without the wanton destruction of a random fruit cart.
  • Diamond really shouldn’t have started another musical number while she was running. Because anything can happen during a song—it’s like she wanted the CMC’s to break physics to catch up with her.
  • DT talking down her mom seemed a little too easy...
  • Oh, “convincing others to do what I want” is literally her special talent.
  • [claps] Nice fakeout, writers. You had me convinced that the CMC weren’t going to get their marks this episode. Also, interesting use of You Were Trying Too Hard.
  • Derpy in a mailpony uniform? It only took the show five seasons.
  • And now the mane six are here to celebrate? Will Celestia and Luna be dropping by next?
  • Holy crap, AJ actually mentioned her parents?
  • Wait, where are Scootaloo’s parents? Scoota-orphan confirmed? No, Sweetie Belle’s parents are also mysteriously not present, so it doesn’t mean anything.
  • That... that... I hope all future episodes use that updated photo for the opening credits.

Yeah, that was interesting.

I didn't write any of that.

@Irish: OOC: Here's some tips for Exdeath: On the second form, the back end can be killed using the Odin from the magic lap. The bottom right part is the one casting almegest. Kill it. I think the top right is the one that cast grand cross. Equip ribbons on your dancer or aegis shields to negate it's effects (hopefully). When you are down to two parts, be sure to kill them at about the same time. Leaving one part alive changes its AI script and it will go bonkers very fast. I hope that helps.

Mother 3 probably has the best combat in an rpg I've seen. A simple, but effective combo system that gives up to 16 hits while attacking enemies to the beat of the battle music.

Hope you like unusual stop and go sections, reverse uptempo melodies, and at one point a military march in 29/16.
