Also, don't be ashamed of chasing after the low-hanging fruit. In the beginning, it's really all you can reach, but it's a hell of a lot better than starving yourself.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...@Ike: Don't go selling yourself short, man. If you aren't satisfied with who you are, all that means is that you should be motivated to improve. Also, comparing yourself to other people is a terrible way to gauge your self-worth. There are exceptional people, but they're just that, the exceptions. They don't represent the whole of humanity. There will always be somebody who appears better than you, which is why it's a crappy way to try to gauge what you're worth. Don't worry about them, just do what you can with what you have. And don't give up. The only way to guarantee failure is to stop trying. If you keep at it, you just might surprise yourself.
TL;DR version: Don't worry that your steps are small. Just keep taking them.

Reaction Image RepositoryDropping in from doing homework to say there's always someone cooler than us. And the person who is cooler than us looks up to someone and says: "that person is cooler than me".
It's an endless cycle of comparing ourselves to others. And it's very liberating those few moments when we stop sizing ourselves up to others and just be us. So stop it. Even just for a second.
If that makes any sense.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkOK,I will be going to bed,but I just want to leave off with a line from a superman comic that I feel is real appropriate right now.
Superman:"You're much stronger than you think you are. Trust me."

My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013That was definitely a major factor for me deciding to check it out in the first place. Also, the Ponified S Kyrim trailer was shown in our VG club.
That's impressive. I dont think the players in Another Gamging Comic broke the DM that often, and they're a fictional group of munchkins.
I keep meaning to check out the books but I never get around to it. I haven't even been to my county library yet. Still sounds more fun than trying to binge it all on TV and it's about time I read something on paper.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayExactly. Being the best is really kind of a sucky goal because it just means you'll always be trapped in an inferiority complex. It's liberating to realize that being the best is less important than trying to do the best you can manage. There will always been somebody better, and that's okay.

Reaction Image RepositoryAlso Sherlock. And Harry Potter And The Methods Of Rationality.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWell, alright here it goes. Okay, so thanks to my upbringing, there was a long period of time where I use to be really homophobic. Even though it did get toned down over the years, I was still uncomfortable and grossed out by the very notion of that sort of thing. But that all pretty much changed just a couple of years ago, and of all things, it was this show and the fandom that caused my views on homosexuality to completely change.
See, I use to be pretty social in the fandom {And I still am to an extent}, and given how big it is, this of course lead to me ending up in places {One of which was the FIM Yack Fest thread on this very site} that had some people from the LGBT crowd. Most of them were perfectly nice people, some of whom I actually liked. And around that time, I had also got into shipping as well, stuff like Twidash and whatnot. It all got me thinking about the whole subject, and as stupid as I still feel for not realizing it much sooner {As in, long before I had gotten into ponies}, it did dawn on me that there's really nothing wrong with being gay, bi, lesbian or transsexual, and that they're people too. People who've gone through more crap then they deserve. Yeah, in a way, FIM changed me completely in that regard thanks to both lots of socializing as well as thinking about that sort of thing being applied to characters that I've come to love.
I'm aware that this might be a very shallow reason for taking a complete 180 on my views {You know, the fact that it took a kids cartoon to cause that to happen}, but it's the truth. And I just want to say to anyone here who either has a different sexuality or gender identity {Sorry, I don't know if there's a correct and non-potentially-offensive term for that sort of thing}, that I'm very sorry for indirectly contributing to any pain you've went through. While I never did any of the really bad stuff that some homophobes have done {I never even harassed or said anything bad to the small amount of gay people that I did actually meet in RL}, that doesn't change the fact that it was wrong of me to think that way, and I'm still ashamed of it. Thank you for listening

That reminds me of a fanon I had a while back.
Canterlot is extremely space constrained due to being on a mountain side so housing is crazy expensive. Plus most of the residents are snooty aristocrats who oppose building denser housing for 'those people'. So ever since the direct Ponyville - Canterlot rail line was built, most of the Canterlot working class lives in Ponyville where housing is dirt cheap and commutes every day by train.
This also explains Hayseed Turniptruck.
So it's the new The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz?
Filial love, not romantic, one would hope.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Marston: I can sympathize with you, honestly. Up through high school I was just generally ignorant of the whole subject (I went to a fairly small school and there weren't any "out" members of the LGBT movement that I was aware of; then again I wasn't really paying attention) and I was pretty insensitive about the whole thing. My thoughts on the issue were basically "eh, I'm not gay; got nothing to do with me." It wasn't until I started spending more time on the forum (not the pony forum specifically, this was before that) around here that I actually interacted with LGBT people on a regular basis and got a more nuanced view of the whole issue and just how much it affected people. And damn, past me was kind of an ass, because I couldn't be bothered to actually try to understand the issue and just kind of ignored it.
I'm just glad I realized how wrong I was before I did any damage. Or any more damage than my dumbass teenage self did.

Reaction Image RepositoryGoddammit, Ike, if you keep this self-bashing up I am going to Google map every antique store in Lacey and hit them one by one until I find you and give you a goddamn hug.

Oh no, one of the ways we broke out GM was when one of our guys, whose character was based on a 1940s Hungarian terrorist and had spent most of the game reveling in the chance to fight packs of werewolves and performing extravagantly brutal acts on our "human" party member in the name of science, made us make a pit stop at the library because his character was a religious follower of the Oprah book club.
What matters in this life is much more than winning for ourselves. What really matters is helping others win, too. - F. Rogers.@Story: Huh, that would make sense.
On the other hand, since Canterlot is the capital, it's probably been around for a good, long amount of time. Which means that row-houses are probably not hugely uncommon(As ponies would have had to live somewhere while building it).
Of course it all depends on why the city was built. Cities with dense housing were often made with labour in mind, so cheap housing was more common for laborers. IF it was made with the express purpose of being the capital, housing would probably be glitzier.
My personal opinion on it is that the city began very rich - two families, The Smileses and the Jewels(Now far and away the two richest families in Canterlot and effectively minor nobility in their own right) build the top layer, and the whole ting kind of spiraled down from that. The upper Quarter is the palace, the university, some government buildings, as well as all the richest housing. The West Quarter is business-oriented, housing lots of offices and also entertainment venues and shopping malls. Basically downtown. East Quarter is kind of middle-class residential and where most of the grade schools are. the Lower Quarter, around the base of the mountain, is where the working class live, and where some more industrial stuff is located(Though most of it is still imported from other places, especially Manehattan which was an expressly industrial-and-fishing city)

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWell, that's an... interesting situation, even in a game.
@Marston: Also, I should've mentioned this earlier, but I really respect the fact that you were willing to talk about the subject so candidly. It's hard to admit that you were wrong about something, and the fact that you were willing to be honest about it is really great.

In other news, I just did a ten-minute beginner's yoga sequence. I am not flexible at all. Which, granted, is why I looked it up in the first place.

@JT/Crowfall: I really appreciate the complement. Thanks.
Now though, I want to know: What the heck is going on with you two? JT is literally copying what Crowfall is saying, and my brain is being confused by it all. What, are you two actually the same person this entire time? I should have known that JT was a Twidash shipper in denial, and that Crowfall happens to like Twijack as well.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...When I was a kid, I thought homosexuality was weird and preverted too. It's just the culture you grow up in. This was before the internet and I didn't know anyone personally who was gay, so that's just what happens.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play
Can that stupid 5-year old drive a car, or help with his parents' antique store, or write an entertaining chapter in a My Little Pony round robin? Probably not. He's only 5.
