Definitely. He's so manic about it in "Supper Villain" that it's hard not to find it hilarious.

I feel that Supper Villain is better than the sequel because of the Flanderization of the daughter.

BTW: I was inspired to turn Him into Nyarlathotep by the nightmare dimension in Power-Noia.

"Ah Buttercup, so nice of you to join us. I so wanted you to see this before I disposed of you. So that you would see that it was I, Mojo Jojo, who saved the world from the evil that is The Powerpuff Girls."

Favorite Powerpuff: Blossom, with Buttercup at a very close second.

Favorite villain: Movie!Mojo Jojo, followed by Him, then series!Mojo.

Favorite episode: I actually haven't seen most of the series, but I give props to "The Boys are Back In Town" and "Bubblevicious" for its Family-Unfriendly Violence.

Say, anyone play any of the PPG licensed games? Are any of 'em good?

I actually own two CN licenced games, Science Ain't Fair based on Dexter's Lab and Mojo Jojo's Pet Project.

Both are essentially a bunch of minigames tied together by a (original?) story. I remember the Dexter's Lab one has some nice printout papercraft stuff.

[up][up] The Game Boy Color ones are crap, as was Chemical X-Traction on the Playstation and N64. In fact, I took Chemical X-Traction back in under 30 minutes because the game was that bad. That's also how long it took for me to beat it. The Game Boy Advance games were pretty good, though. I played so much Mojo-Jojo-A-Go-Go on the GBA for hours... So it's basically The Problem with Licensed Games in effect with two exceptions. I mentioned.

The Powerpuff Girls were some of the first fanart I ever drew without having to trace (I did this a lot when I was a kid) anything because of how simplistic the character designs were.

And then there's this comic, back when I was a PPGWorld member. I'm doing tribute fan art to it.

[up] No problem. I forgot to mention, they let me get a free rental due to me being unhappy with the game, but it had to be within the limit of couple of hours.

Actually, went and got "Him And Seek" while I was out. Not much like the kind of game I normally play, but it seems fun enough for what it is.

Bumping threads again.

Anyway, I just always loved this show, and it always has a special place in my heart. I remember watching the "Dance Pantsed" special the other day, and I didn't even care about the animation because it had the old voice actors and it was written well, even though, in my opinion, the Professor stole the show.

So, after catching it on Boomerang I kind of went into a Powerpuff Girls binge - I looked up as many episodes as I could online, especially my favorite ones from back int he day, but they're so hard to find sometimes. I'm still trying to find the one where the Talking Dog stayed with them and made fun of everyone, though at least I managed to find a good version of Him Diddle Riddle (not so much for the episode where Bubbles thinks she's Mojo, every version I can find is broken in some way).

It's funny, when I was a kid I thought Him was kind of boring, but looking back at Him as an adult he's pretty freaking awesome. Not only is he creepy, manipulative and a lot more powerful than the rest of the rogues' gallery, but I love the sense that no matter what the girls do they're only really effecting him in a very minor way. And the way he snaps from pleasant to nasty in mid-sentence... definitely Nightmare Fuel. He's probably my favorite OG PPG villain now (sorry Mojo).

Anyway, then I listening to "Go Monkey Go" (I was never a fan of "Signal In The Sky," though) and then somehow I ended up watching the anime adaptation for the first time.

I dunno what the general reaction is to the anime (I'm guessing Broken Base), but it's a lot less terrible than I was expecting. It's entertaining to watch and the characters are fun, and though the magical girl stuff is trite and sometimes pretty cringe-y the way they reimagined some of the characters was pretty neat. I'd still take certain seasons of the original, but they're really fun to watch simultaneously imo.

<shrug>

Anyway, it all came to a screeching halt when I decided to see what fanfic scene was like (you fool!). Not too good, for either show. But I guess that's to be expected. sad

I have this odd, horrible hobby of poring over fanfics in order to find that elusive 10% that isn't crap. It's like some masochistic addiction or something. tongue

And oh god, so many Rowdyruff shipping fics. It's like the only thing that's on there!

The anime is nicely done, but it lacks the subversive extra mile that made the original memorable. The Mahou Shoujo genre had as much to parody as the American superhero genre the original handled so well, but PPGZ mostly plays it too straight, and it suffers as a result. It ends up being too cookie-cutter and lacking too much bite, which is a shame, because there are some real good ideas in there (like Buttercup being Even Girls Want Her, or Sedusa being a more compelling Jekyll and Hyde with a 'good' side you can root for opposite to the one-dimensional villainess she originally was).

[up][up]Wait how did you find Him boring as a kid? I can understand not liking him but boring? Nahhhh...but yeah he's one of my favorites too.

I never liked the Amoeba Boys all that much though.

The Amoeba Boys are a joke that really works well only once. I love the flu episode, but every other of their appearances... ehhhh...

The Gangreene Gang are surprisingly versatile and effective for villains who at first look like they should be so lame.

This, basically, sums up the way I received it as well. There were a lot of neat ideas that made it fun to watch, especially the girls' personalities and those of the villains (I agree about Sedusa, and the way they spun the same concept with Princess was pretty neat), but it allowed itself to be held back in several ways by the conventions of its genre.

Let it go, dude. A revival just wouldn't work (especially if "Dance Pantsed" is anything to go by on that front).

W-w-what? B...but it's The Apples In Stereo, in all their '60s-ish, Beatlesque glory! They're amazing, and that might be one of their catchiest songs.

Side note: Looking back (hell, even looking at what the channel does today), Cartoon Network sure has always had their pulse on great alternative music, haven't they? They got the aforementioned Apples, Shonen Knife, Devonote  (all of those just for PPG!), the Reverend Horton Heat, The Hives, The Go Team, Soul Coughing, Voltaire, Weird Al (at least, in guest voice roles), all that weird indie music they use for Adventure Time... I kinda feel like that might have had a tremendous influence on my musical taste growing up. Cartoon Network was my MTV.

That song is actually what introduced me to the Hives. Unfortunately, the only album by them I've since checked out is The Black and White Album—good album, sure, but I need to listen to more.
