For a second I thought he was reviewing the sequel.

He’s run out of ideas. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does a Batman month and review the other Batman movies he did get to. I just know his Rises review will be completely awful, given how much he got that film wrong, and I’m not even the biggest fan of that movie.

[up][up][up][up] No, the character in the reboot series basically have nothing in common with the character in the original show minus the color scheme.( Different origin and personality).

E.T technically is a Isekai movie

[up][up][up][up] He probably will eventually...like everything really...except "The Phantom Menace" (Disneycember doesn't count).

Hey, if Rifftrax can riff on Casablanca, the Critic can review this.

Before I watch this. Does he bring up anything he didn't in his Disneycember review of the film? Doug has this habit of repeating himself in multiple reviews of the same thing.

I mean the Disneycember review for Hunchback was like what 9 years ago? I'm sure there are newcomers who didn't watch his older videos.

A better question would be, did Doug offer anything insightful that Lindsay Ellis didn't put in her review of the film?

A little bit of both. At the time I posted that, I was at work, and couldn't see the video, but at the same time I knew Doug's video wouldn't top Lindsay's video in any way.

Doug was also less hostile towards the gargoyles here, than he has been in previous discussions, but it absolutely drives me nuts whenever he says things like "everybody hates this". Dude, that's really over-generalizing. I personally never minded the gargoyles (although, I admit the film isn't really consistent as to whether they're supposed to be real or just in Quasimodo's head).

It's also funny that Doug brought up the Squick of "Hugo wanting Djali", which is something I've heard in a few places, including here at TV Tropes, but I was also kind of disappointed that he didn't fully explain why the song "A Guy Like You" doesn't work. Because it means, if the gargoyles really are just in Quasimodo's head, Quasi is just sitting there wondering if he has a chance with Esmerelda, all while Paris is being burned to the ground. It's really more than just "this is just a song to entertain the kids".

I have a similar problem with Doug generalizing at times. He seems to think that everyone loves the original jungle book Animated movie, but to be honest a lot of kids haven't seen it and even some adults, myself included, haven't as well. And even then I am sure that some just can't stand it.

If I were to go by Doug's opinion alone, I'd think I was the only one in the world who liked Space Jam.

[up] Siskel, Ebert, and Leonard Maltin ALL gave positive reviews to "Space Jam", so I thought he was the only one that didn't.

Good thing I learned my lesson, and knew from viewing that "Daredevil" was a bad movie even though Ebert, Roeper and Maltin also all gave positive reviews to that.

Seriously though, I still like "Space Jam" but not "Daredevil".

Leonard Maltin gave Patch Adams a very positive review if you can believe that.

The problematic part of Patch Adams is that it's Very Loosely Based on a True Story. If you don't know how far off it is from the real story, it seems fine.

It doesn't bother me when Doug says stuff like "everybody hates this" or "everybody loves this" because I can tell he's not being that literal. I mean, we got The Scrappy for characters "everyone" hates but we know there's always bound to be some fans of them. He's very clear in his out-of-character opinions that he respects and even encourages opinions different than his, so it's not like he's saying "if you don't hate this you're wrong" y'know? It's a common enough sentiment that we know what he means when he says everyone hates the gargoyles especially in their song.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

Trying to censor the word Gypsy comes across as trying too hard.

Yes, its a Slur to Romani, but the movie itself still uses it (Hell, I don't even recall the word Romani even being uttered in the film, which is a detriment to it in a way, but still). Doug's still uses it because he doesn't know better.

On a lesser note, he also confused Mary Wickes with Jane Withers.

Yes, Withers did some of Laverne's dialogue after Wickes passed away, but he showed a clip of Wickes from Sister Act. Oops.

Doug was a fan of this movie for years while somehow not realizing that it's set in Paris and that Notre Dame is one of that city's most famous landmarks. He ain't exactly the inquisitive kind. Expecting him to have a clue about the evolving connotations of one of the film's racial terms would be far too much for his poor little head.
