Hmm, I have screwed up getting on the 1000th page in the other thread, but at least I can be on the first page here!

Edit: Oh, come on!

I think this is good. I don't care at all about the majority of the site's contributors, and IMO they actively drag down Doug's reviews whenever they appear. Except Spoony, but he's gone now...

[up][up][up]Thanks, Gilphon. I haven't had a good laugh today yet.grin Was it on purpose? It was way too perfect to not be on purpose.

Anyway, personally, I am happy the Critic is back as I don't really care for the storylines and things like that. So I really prefer to have Doug reviewing than doing something else.

I do understand why the contributors might be mad, though. A better solution would be to keep Demo Reel and go back to the reviews as "specials". Without a set frequency and without greater ties with TGWTG storylines.

At least it had a season, even if it was cut short. Hell, at least it completed a story arc. Some shows don't even get that lucky.

I do wonder if they'll ever consider making a DVD set for Demo Reel. Would be interesting.

-watched the latest ATLA vlog-

Oh god, I wish he hadn't picked up on the whole "this girl is going to be a character later", and just went on about Azula's smile.

His reaction to the last scene of the Season 1 finale would be priceless.

Oh yes, so so looking forward to more of his vids. It was great seeing him get more and more involved with the characters.

Watching someone else fall in love with a show reminds you just how special it was to you too.

Plus, proves the series has great longevity. Avatar premiered in 2005 and is still perfectly enjoyable 8 years later. Don't knock that bonus, I know people who refuse to listen to music that's older than a few years for some odd reason. Old =/= bad and I like seeing Doug prove that.

Mmm. It's very interesting to see a fresh perspective on this stuff, isn't it?

And yes, that stuff was intentional. Making sure I got those exact posts both here and in the other thread wasn't easy, though, and I'm surprised I pulled it off.

I'm just amazed how how well he's predicting what' going to happen. And even noticed Azula in her one quick scene in The Storm, figuring she'd become a major character. can't wait to see his reaction to her.

As for the cameos: actually, CR has appeared in Son of the Mask review. And Doug had a cameo in one of Linkara'a reviews since his return.

Doug is doing the Avatar Vlogs primarily to prep for the Shyamalan movie, right? Does anyone else feel kinda bad for that considering just how much Doug is liking the show? I mean, the movie isn't good at all on its own merits, obviously. But to actually have an investment in the source material makes it a lot worse.

Honestly, I appreciate the fact that he's taking time to actually pick up the series instead of diving straight into the movie. Yeah, it will ultimately cause him to come down harder on the show, but I think it's ultimately a good thing. Too often, when non-fans watch adaptations like these, they tend to take a "lol fanboys" mentality (not that I think Doug would do it).

Oh god, I wish he hadn't picked up on the whole "this girl is going to be a character later", and just went on about Azula's smile.

To be fair, a lot of fans actually did pick up on Azula's cameo at the time and was wondering what her relevance would be.

M. Night royally screwed the pooch, it wasn't just the "racebending" but the complete butchering of Aang and Zuko's characters.

[up]It's kind of ironic how much he messed up with it, considering he actually went on record saying that he's a fan of the original series.

Maybe it's not all his fault, and perhaps there was executive meddling we don't know about? That might be giving him too much credit, but he is talented...he just tends to squander his talent.

[up]I wouldn't be surprised if there was Executive Meddling. The race-bending controversy was for sure a studio-made decision.

That said, studios need to stop allowing M. Night to write the screenplay.

The race, that was studio, the change of pronunciation that was all him.

And we all learned something from that: never change names when adapting a work of fiction for the silver screen. Your version may be more accurate to real life (may, and I speak a little Mandarin so I'm not sold that it was) but you have enough hurdles to overcome with compressing a television series into a much shorter film without alienating the built-in fanbase with unnecessary changes to the characters' very names.

One problem among many, but easily the most arbitrary and simplest to fix.

But that's a story for another time.

I've I ways felt the true purpose of the Racebending was to hide the intense amounts of sexism in the film.

Speaking of The Last Airbender and Shyamalan's particular stew of fail, The Foldable Human did a pretty good video on just how TLA fails miserably from a structural and technical standpoint.
