Yes. I actually gave my reasons for this, dude.

@75

  • "The Trope as experienced In-Universe within works. "
There are examples of that? I mentioned having over 10k words for just the videogame section alone. That suggests to me the need for a hard split, not soft split.

And yes, Septimus said he didn't know how to move the examples over, which is why I said the merge was incomplete. All that's been done is convert PPP into a redirect for CGS, which isn't a merge.

[up][up]Well enlighten me, because I didn't see anything resembling an argument besides "I don't know how" (Normally, that would be reason enough, but that would also mean that one should seek help before taking action).

One possible procedure would have been to copy the examples of the page being converted (into the redirect) into the discussion page of the combined page or into the TRS thread to look over. Alternatively, just plain give the Tropes a few days for integration by Wiki Magic before converting.

Instead, it seems to me that, in the act of creating the redirect (that is editing the page to make it so), you just threw away a bunch of potential examples with no cause whatsoever. They may very well have been mostly duplications or had little merit, but we can no longer be sure because, from what I can see, they are now Lost Forever.

If I am wrong in my presumptions and you have saved the examples in a text file, then please say so.

[up]The Comic Book and Film sections contain In-Universe examples.

Still, looking it over, I see your point about the Hard Split for the Videogame page. But at this point, only the Videogame medium. The sub-media can be converted to folders on the Videogame page. Once individual sub-media get big enough, we should Hard Split those sub-media only.

Ah, I see what your problem is. A page history still works after a redirect; the content of a page is still there.

[up] But there's no way to determine if the examples have been moved or not when you just leave it in the history. An editor attempting to merge the examples has to check every single one to determine if someone else has beaten them to it or not. That's why I made the Player Preferred Pattern. So far, I've only been using Word, because incorporating each example takes me so long. I've left a line where I've left off, but because I didn't merge the example, it's still on that page.

[up][up] How big does FPS and Fighting have to get before they're big enough?

Nope

Allow me to refine the statement; But there's no way to easily determine if the examples have been moved or not when you just leave it in the history. Deductive reasoning in some form is required.

My apologies for using a bit of hyperbole.

I am not clear what you want from me there. If I had merged, it would have turned into a mess, since the examples weren't soft split on the PPP page (as opposed to the CGS page). I'll remember to make a sandbox next time.

SH: I appreciate your understanding.

CS: I appreciate your efforts. As for how long, I'd say when we get to 4-5 screens in the folder (around 3600 words). FPS is approaching that limit and could tip it when the examples from PPP are added (when said examples are not duplicates, that is.)

Fighting is close, but there is a Third Option in that case: Separate the Capcom fighting games from the non-Capcom ones. Granted, much of the principles are the same, but the Street Fighter series is the best known example, so a publisher split may be relevant. (As it may well be for FPS, but I'm not as familiar with that genre.)

Bumping this, since Sandbox.Player Preferred Pattern still needs a soft split by video game genre.

OK, since nobody stepped up, I did a soft split, moved the examples over and cutlisted the sandbox. The video game examples on Complacent Gaming Syndrome were split off to a separate page due to folder length concerns.
