Marvel had already been mocked earlier for its first gay character being nothing more than a glorified cameo. There’s, um, stuff I wouldn’t praise about Loki romantically but at least they didn’t hype up the bisexual moment beforehand to unreasonable publicity scales, and it’s actually to characters who have more than 20 seconds of screentime.
Oh right, Endgame was genuinely good too, for the most part.
It's been 3000 years…So, according to this Deadline article, Bob Iger is coming back to replace Bob Chapek as Disney's CEO.

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Everyone’s resigning this season, it’s lettuce’s dream come true
I'm getting conflicted reports on whether Chapek either resigned on his own volition, or if the Board forced him to do it.
Any time you aren't running, I'm getting closer.I suspect that the Board forced him to resign. They must have been quietly upset that Chapek was doing this much damage to the company.
"You can run, but you can't hide from the Buzzinator!"Good riddance to Chapek. Iger's just going to end up running Disney until he's dead at this point, isn't he?
Welp that seems dramatic. I guess I'm not surprised at Chapek being outed, but it doesn't strike me as particularly good that they're bringing back Iger. Not that I dislike Iger but I find it a bit worrying that there aren't a lot of candidates who can take on the mantel of Disney CEO.
Bide your time, and Hold out Hope — GANKUTSUOU Just because it's irrational, doesn't mean it's not real. Finally! I'm expecting Iger to be more an interim CEO while they look for a new, more competent person.
I wonder what this means for Pixar going forward? Their status as Disney+ fodder (with Lightyear being the exception that proved the rule) was entirely Chapek's doing, so I can only imagine how Iger will treat them from here on out.
The Disney board’s statement says that they take responsibility for cutting Chapek, and that Iger’s term is for two years. So he eventually will retire again, but they’re waiting on a replacement.
So, why was Chapek bad again? I haven't been following Disney corporate politics lately.
Last I checked, part of the problem was that Chapek was kissing up to homophobe republicans. I think.
I still can't believe Iger is coming back for another two years. When I saw the news on Twitter, I immediately thought it was a joke. Apparently not so.
And I can't blame the board for pumping the brakes on Chapek. The guy got booed at D23 2022. If that wasn't a fleet of red flags doing the can-can, I don't know what is.

Back when Chapek ran the Disney Parks he had a reputation for cutting corners, like when he gave Imagineers only 4 months to design and build a Guardians ride or when he blew a deal to get Harry Potter rides because he was just gonna build a laser shooter.
As CEO he was reputed with ticking off Scarlett Johansson over Black Widow’s release, sparking a walkout by Disney’s gay employees and allies over his standing by Florida GOP’s “Don’t Say Gay” law, and being “data driven” to the point of offending the company’s artists.
Iger’s no saint and has done plenty of shady junk in his own right, but he was very good at keeping the talent happy. Chapek, not so much.

Defunctland does some feature length investigative journalism to find who originally created the Disney Channel theme.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."...You mean to tell us we almost had The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Disney theme parks? Like, for real?
Because if so, then man, what an idiot!
Yep, that really happened. I mean I’m not gonna weep because JK Rowling is a transphobic nightmare, but it stands out how Disney parks were once the forefront of theme park innovation but under Chapek then Universal Harry Potter stole their thunder and they’ve been playing catch-up since.
This article is a year old but it sums up the differences between the two CEOs very well.
[…] Chapek was said to have followed Iger’s remarks by declaring in blunt terms that, in fact, Disney was now a data-driven company. It sent a chill through Hollywood. Sources who attended the meeting say Chapek did not make such a bald declaration. They say he was merely being himself: a numbers-oriented, bottom-line-focused businessman lacking creative experience and without Iger’s polish and flair.
In a company as image-conscious as Disney, someone in charge who doesn’t know how to sweet-talk creatives and just makes them mad instead is steering the whole ship into rocks.

Huh. When put that way it sounds fairly similar to what's happening over at WB.
Granted, WB's got it way worse, but still.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Yeah, Zaslav frankly makes Chapek look like a saint.
Yeah, at least Chapek wasn't trying to actively destroy the entire studio because he only knows how to work in reality TV.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonThey're both equally bad, just in different ways. It's like choosing between being lowered into an active volcano or being force to take a bath with live electric eels.
Go with the eels, you could get superpowers like electro.

Oh God! Natural light! The latest quarterly report was terrible.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.
I feel like Loki (2021) sort of bucked the trend of "first gay whatever" being a sign of poor quality, though that's just because Marvel's different from Disney.
