That certainly is surprising.

I just hope they don't overdo it.

They haven't even finished filming season 6 yet. They are by episode 10 or something like that.

Soooooooo happy! And the great thing is, that gives the writers ample time to adjust.

Yeah — I believe the only time this happened way beforehand was Season 3. They knew by the time they were filming the finale of Season 3 that they had a Season 4, so they were able to do a flashforward and set up the next season. Even Season 4, with the space tease, they didn't know for certain if they had a Season 5 — I think they even stated if they had been cancelled, they still would have included the space teaser, because that was their plan.

Season 5, in fact, is the only season that doesn't include a teaser for the next season. Season 1 had Skye's dad show up and Coulson's carvings, Season 2 had the Terrigen fish oil pills and Simmons eaten by the space rock, Season 3 had the flashforward with outlaw Quake and Coulson no longer Director of SHIELD, and Season 4 had Coulson in spaaaaace.

I wonder if this changes any of their plans for the ending of Season 6?

So apparently they will film season 6 and 7 back to back to save money. That explains the early renewal. And I guess the people involved knew way, way earlier. They had to announce it now, though, because I guess otherwise it would have leaked anyway.

Huh. So instead of one season of 22 episodes, they are getting two seasons of 13 episodes each. That's a nice compromise.

By the way, AOS also won best visual effects at the HPA Awards.

I wonder about the budget, though. And I am kind of wondering who at Disney is so set on keeping the show on air and how far they will go to keep it there. Supposedly the even lowered the distribution fees for ABC so that they would keep the show on air.

But if the show is really that popular internationally, it might be worth it. It's like a constant reminder that the MCU is still a thing.

The show is apparently very popular in China (which makes sense since it features two Chinese-American actresses in main roles).

And Chloe Bennet was a starlet in China before she took the role of Skye. I guess the fanbase of Ao S is also very, well, dedicated. Having a stable fanbase has some worth.

Supposedly, Agents of SHIELD has been doing better than any of the Netflix shows too.

Objectively I can understand that since two out of the 5 main Netflix series have been cancelled.

Emotionally it's quite surprising to hear that AOS is actually doing better than the shared universe of Netflix shows.

Also, we've got a new look for Daisy Johnson/Quake. I've liked that they've kind of streamlined everything and also added the purple hair from Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors. It's a good look. (If this also means that they are finally bringing back the Secret Warriors in the show, I will also be very happy.)

[up][up]I wouldn't feel too bad about it. AOS has more episodes per season, more seasons overall, a bigger budget, and the advantage of being broadcast on a major network, and those are still a huge head start (particularly coming attached to every cable subscription in the US). It's not really a one-to-one comparison, if you're looking at it numerically.

Not that I begrudge them that success or that I'm not glad to hear it. AOS has deserved better than it's gotten for a long time.

[up]That's kind of awesome.

AOS had a bigger budget technically. The Netflix shows probably had a bigger budget per episode. And that's a difference.

I'm not sure that's true even now, but it definitely wasn't for AOS's earlier seasons — Agents of SHIELD has, or at least had, a pretty big effects budget, while the Netflix shows don't really have (or generally need) much beyond costumes. The big difference with the Netflix shows is that they have more time to rehearse and film, and of course a lot of the Netflix shows' budget goes toward filming in New York, too. So I think it's not really fair to either AOS or the Netflix shows to compare them based on dollars spent and/or number of viewers alone. They're different animals.

The Broadcast argument actually doesn't work in favour of Ao S outside of the US. See, the Netflix shows are available in every country which has a Netflix service at the same time. But Ao S, well, let's just say that the more dedicated fans have to get "creative" in order to stay up-to-date or they have to wait one year or longer to catch up. Not to mention that most people don't watch Ao S life even in the US...it's streaming numbers double, sometimes triple its life numbers.

The study which figured out that Ao S is actually the most popular of the Marvel shows took everything into account, like viewing, streaming, "other" sources, social media presence…

Speaking of the latter, Ao S was actually trending on google yesterday after the news of another season broke.

Regarding the budget, I am pretty sure that the budget of Ao S is higher. Yes, they save money because they don't film in New York, but that money melts away FAST due to Ao S higher special effect demands and bigger cast. (Basically a shot gets more expensive the more people are in a scene).

Is it just me, or does Daisy's new look look vaguely Black Widowy to me? Or even Hydra-esque. I got visions of German spies n the like for some reason.

[up] German spies? Why specifically German spies?

The Shield agents trained for the field is a very specific type. Fitzsimmons fall a little bit out of it, because they are first and foremost scientists, but Daisy, May, Ward, Bobby and Natasha are all kind of similar from that perspective.

Daisy as a blonde.... (sigh) Not really a fan of brunettes dying their hair a lighter color, because to me it just rarely works (on the other hand blondes dying their hair a darker color works just fine). But that's just my opinion.

Season 7... I like that the show is continuing, but it's just one of those things, I was prepared for Season 6 to be the last (in fact I kinda would have been fine if Season 5 had been the end, as I really liked how Season 5 wrapped), and I'm sort of at that point where, I like the idea of seeing new episodes, but only if the new episodes are good.

I hope they go back to basics, and go back to a Season 1-2 feel where there was a mixture of lightheartedness and darkness, evenly balanced out. Season 5 was too dark and gritty for my tastes.

The show will be odd without Coulson, that is if it's confirmed he won't be a part of it (maybe reoccurring?).

And I know it may be asking for too much, but I really hope they try a little better at making the films and Ao S more connected to one another. That's always been my chief complaint about the series, and I know Chloe Bennet has talked about it too. Why bother having the series take place in the same universe as the films if you're not going to bother acknowledging each other?

If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them.

honestly, I am just happy about spending more time with those characters. I especially looking forward to Fitz realizing that he missed his own wedding tongue

The good thing about it is: Should the show be cancelled, they can do the wedding AGAIN, this time with kilt and as many guests as possible.
