The Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Thread!

All art is accepted, good, bad, or godawful. Stories are good too. But mainly I'll just sit and watch from the sidelines.

Nono, I didn't say I was a bad artist I was saying I am extremely lazy when it comes to art unless it's like mandatory or shit. I do ok art, it's just hard to get me to do it.

With Super Mystery Dungeon recently released, I feel it is a good time to necro this thread. <3

Let's start up with starters. I almost went with Chimchar + Chespin this time for story reasons, but ended up with Totodile + Chikorita due to Munchkin.

Totodile is such a beast.

Unfortunately weaknesses in this series aren't as clear-cut as 4x'ing a Salamence so there's probably more preparation to do to take him down than to just spam Ice Fang.

How is everyone progressing in SMD? I only got the Connection Orb and picked up Sylveon. AND I LEFT MY 3DS AT HOME! BLAST IT.

EDIT: Ooh, but I will try the "main series" method, Ice Fang spam. I'm willing to bet play time on that before I bust out the statuses and Blast Seeds.

Just got through the imfamous Salamence. Because I'd heard so many things I made sure to spam sleep, confuse, and truant wands which ended up letting me beat it without much trouble.

As an aside, may I ask what series that cat in your avatar is from? It looks oddly familiar.

It's the cat from Ghost Trick. Very good game developed by the same person as the Ace Attorney Series. There's a really adorable dog in it too.

Slowly making my way through PSMD myself. With finals coming up I haven't had a lot of time to play it.

That said, I really hope the game's difficulty ramps up pretty quickly. I'm breezing through the game.

I'm on Chapter 6 right now, and is it just me, or does it take WAY longer to gain a level than other Mystery Dungeon games?

I haven't played Sky in a while, so I don't know. Probably.

I'd say the experience curve is a lot slower, but vitamins are pretty easy to come by postgame and with the Water Looplet you can stat up your whole party pretty extensively. I'm in the epilogue at Diamond Rank and I'm trying to figure out how to recruit Volcarona.

Well I have my 3DS back and about to play in Lunch Break.

So far while there are some hairy moments (mostly bosses) there are no times so far where I feel that the enemies just "out-stat" me and I need grinding. I actually kinda like this.

Also I just learned that when partner faints and I don't offer them a reviver, they are gone FOREV—I mean for the rest of the dungeon. My God, What Have I Done?...

By the way, how many times can you power up moves? I think I went beyond red on my Water Gun and it became black again...

Also, I am ashamed to say I failed to defeat Salamence on the first try, I thought 200 HP would be enough. Not enough Blast Seeds, so I spent the rest of the time I had left to farm Blast Seeds in Pelipper Island: Mid. Now I have 6! Let's see Salamence survive that.

Salamence joined my team after feeding him with 4 Blast Seeds.

Hahaha. Even more of a Disc-One Nuke than Sylveon that's for sure. And then I used Hawlucha to load up the best moves.

I'm at the part where they are investigating the ghost. Why people have to be heroic and not just leave Pancham to his fate. He's totally even more annoying than whatever/however he thinks my partner is annoying. So five brave children enter the scary scary tomb...

Oh wow I can't believe they just hand you Victini so easily. (though it's not nearly as strong as Salamence)

Don't worry, the high level mons aren't nearly as game breaking as they appear... even if they do clear missions like crazy.

Well, a 66 damage flamethrower is still nothing to sneeze at. I also tend to not use Salamence and Dragonite in missions regardless. I want my lower level dudes to get better. <3

Also, I finally left the hometown, and I leave Espurr behind and I can't add her to the team anymore which is a huge shame! I would've still liked to have her along. So OP...

Finally, that boss battle from out of nowhere... it was crazy. Even though it was supposed to be a worthless boss battle that continues the story regardless if you die, it was a waste of reviver seeds I tried to win it anyway, so I reset the game and Quick Orb, Blast Seed, Bite, Bite, Bite FTW.

That Dragonite does stupid amounts of damage. Pretty much every attack was 100+ and after attaching a couple choice emeras I managed to get a 260 damage hit.

I have 3 party members to distribute elixirs to and it bothers me that they always run out of PP.

Also still doing early story quests and the school is just dumping tons of items on me that apparently I can keep despite them saying they would be taking stuff back.

Also. apparently Progress Devices are a one time use and are /expensive/ Nintendo why.

Mostly they run out of their ranged attacks so I either make them the leader (my protagonist Totodile also has a ranged attack) or if I'm stuck in a story mission where I can't change the leader, use the Alliance attack to make them use their melee attacks.

I would only elixir when there's more floors and/or when all of the moves have been used a couple of times.

Also, I tried buying a Lucha Token, but I can't change Totodile's ability! Is that even in the game, Sheer Force? :p

Well I also tried to change Sylveon's to pixilate and I can't.

Also something amusing from a sidequest. Was fighting another "bully". Primeape used Final Gambit! (dealt 488 damage)

Hidden abilities aren't in the game which is so dumb.

I guess they didn't want Protean greninjas ruining the place.

Also goddamnit game, give me some fucking apples, I'm just in this school quest so I can get to the real game. If I can't bring my own shit in, at least give me enough stuff to clear the dungeon without having to beeline the exits halfway through.

Ah! So much for making my Totodile protagonist even more OP than before...

I will never be able to play PSMD until there's a working 3DS emulator, but I have played PMD 1 and 2. Whenever I play them, I always want one of my starting Pokemon to be a Totodile. It shouldn't be hard to guess why.

You can always buy a 3DS. Used ones are probably affordable.

Would rather spend the money on a new computer. Plus I don't know of any Action Replay equivalents (speaking I love playing my own way) that are reliable for the 3DS. I feel really uncomfortable without an AR or something like it.

Power Save is the AR equivalent, and it works fine.
