I think that is mainly so because to be a cheerleader takes money.

Competitions, costumes, dance and gymnastic lessons, equipment, dry cleaning, makeup, it's a very expensive sport. So many of the girls that are into that are already well off and in a certain social and economic class. That creates distance even without a bad attitude.

But I have noticed that many cheerleaders are often children of very driven and sometimes ridiculous parents. So that could be another factor in why these girls may tend to be bitchy or have an exaggerated sense of entitlement.

The fact that Cheerleading is not a sport also has to do with that...

Without an official institution that regulates rules and safety hazards, there are also several organizations which make different championships, all across the world and the U.S. So there are a wide variety of championships to participate in with no "official champion" whatsoever.

This, of course, economically translates to money for passages, money for transport, money for entrance, money for clothing, money for everything.

Which makes it even worse, somewhat. Shouldnt such an activity be more welcoming and embracing of all instead of so restrictive?

A customer's request that servers at a West Virginia restaurant "show more skin" really got under the owner's skin.

As a response to the now-deleted Urban Spoon commenting, Mc Cawley went ahead and posted more skin — potato skin, that is — on the restaurant's Facebook page and offered a $7 potato skin special. All the proceeds go to the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information Services.

Cool story. Good to see potato skins getting their due.

So what does everybody think about the whole Fanservice with a Smile thing?

An unnecessary and misogynistic distraction from a good meal or a legitimate means of attracting business?

Probably on the same level as, say, just about any advertisement trying to use sex appeal to the same degree.

If you want to look at attractive women, going to a restaurant seems like an awfully inefficient way to go about that in this day and age.

I think it would be healthier to just find something that directly caters to that desire than going to a place where women are used as sexy decorations.

@ Aszur, It's like that with many sports. There is a reason you don't see a lot of minorities in say, skiing, snowboarding, surfing, polo, lacrosse, and what not. Those are expensive sports that require a lot of gear and specialized practice.

There is a reason you see more minorities in track and basketball. All you really need for those is a good pair of shoes (or no shoes) and a ball. It's cheaper to be good at those and you can practice just about anywhere.

I am more concerned with making sports more egalitarian. Women are finally getting their credit for weightlifting and other more "masculine" sports. Hell, kudos to Saudi for having an Olympic martial arts team! That's really freaking awesome!

[up][up] For some men, it's not that they want to see sexy, it's that they don't want to stop seeing sexy. If they could go their whole day surrounded by beautiful women in skimpy or nonexistent outfits, that's perfect for them. Eat at Hooters, Topless Haircut, erotic massage parlor, dinner at a burlesque show, go drinking at strip clubs, etc.

Sexy women on-hand no matter what you're doing is some guys' idea of paradise. A restaurant with great food that happens to have skimpy waitresses can thus be an improvement for some over a strip club that happens to serve decent food.

[up][up] This is certainly true, but in schools and such, don't they provide the equipment?

[up] Oh god. No. No it isn't. First time I went to Hooters, everyone was laughing at me because I was too embarassed to even LOOK at the waitress as I ordered. >>

I'm a pretty terrible person

[down] Oh, come now. The celery and ranch (I think?) thing stuff is pretty good.

[up][up] That's why I said "some" guys.

Before I started living and working with women who've been victimized, I used to be one of those guys. If there had been such things as Topless Supermarkets or Strip Banks or Bikini Mechanic or such, they would have had my business. Thing + Sexy Women > Thing, was the logic. I spent a lot of time scouring the city for combinations that featured Sexy, which is why I know Topless Haircut is actually a thing and not something I made up for an example in my previous post.

As I've gotten to know women as people instead of objects, I've grown out of that, but there was a time I was that guy.

Odd. From what I understood, the U.S state funded some of those activities and provided the equipment...guess I was wrong.

Only sports, cheerleading is not a sport.

what sports?

Football pads are the only thing i've never heard of someone having to buy for their kid.

But uniforms, gear, lessons, all that the parents paid for.

That's standard practice.

In all my life, in several states, in every sport, schools only provided the football shoulder pads and football helmets.

Basketball, swimming, soccer, football, baseball, track, whatever. Parents had to buy the full uniform, any gear like shoes or rackets or balls, and often fees and what not for championships or travel expenses.

Even in college we had to buy our own gear.

So Oroboro posted this on the men's issues thread, but I thought I'd post this here. It's a breakdown of the 2011 CDC report that shows that if "made to penetrate" is included as a form of rape (which it isn't in the CDC report) then there are nearly as many men "made to penetrate" (ie raped by) a woman as there are women forcefully penetrated by a man: https://tamenwrote.wordpress.com/2014/09/07/nisvs-2011-released-increased-male-victimization-and-rape-is-still-not-rape/ Is this the case (I'm virtually incapable of reading mathematical charts)? I only include this cos men raping women is a male issue, so the (apparent) fact that most male victims were raped by women would be a female issue. Please don't think I'm trying to derail.

The FBI holds that women can rape men.

And Word Press is not a source.

No, it's talking about a CDC study which is a source. It even has a link so you can easily check whether the facts he points out are true.
