Wait, did they literally change the game because of 12 year olds?
“The game started out with a much more stylized and campy direction. We were actually going for something on the level of Ratchet & Clank, except with humans,” Allgeier said. “Maybe it was going to appeal to gamers who, we thought at the time, might be in their late teens. The industry’s changed quite a bit… We would focus test the game in front of a lot of gamers, and get their opinion. These are people that regularly play Play Station 3 and Xbox games. We started to discover that everyone thought this was a game for their younger brother. We would hear this from 12-year-olds. So we decided that we needed to make a game that had an older appeal.”

...Yeah, its stupid to get idea from 12 year olds :P Those people think they are too cool to watch cartoons...
So yeah, send them angry letters on asking opinion from people who aren't even supposed to play the game.

Too late now.
Yeah, but maybe they won't do it in future
I'm afraid this will be their Haze.
Maybe in terms of sales and critical reception relative to their previous titles, but not in terms of any hubris coming from Insomniac that I know of.
Not like that matters. Fuse could very well end up killing Insomniac.
The game is just...so bland. Theres no personality, no appeal, nothing that pops out at you. Its the vanilla ice cream in the back of the supermarket
Just see what it's like when it launches. It could surprise you. Stranger things have happened.
I played the demo. Its a rental at best if I can get a friend or 2 to play it.
I just call it like I see it. The game had no soul, no personality. Just generic TPS quips and one liners at each other.
Nothing about it will make a player go "OH BOY!" Except the fuse weapons which I can see not lasting the whole game if those 4 are all you get with no upgrades.

If that's what you think and nothing is going to change your mind (I respect your opinion on the matter) then the best thing I can think of would be to move on.
No point 'staying aboard a sinking ship'. Forgive the phrase, it isn't one of mine.
I'm just sad to see a great developer make something so bland that could end them (Because this industry has shown that one bad game can kill a developer)
Not a lot you can do about that in the end I'm afraid. Otherwise I bet you would, right?
I wish to be a god.
Will I hear in the news soon that a dude went off the deep end in some misguided scheme to achieve godhood?
Its just sad because this game could have been an instant classic on par with Ratchet & Clank. I immediately liked all the characters from the Overstrike trailer along. All the abilities seemed unique and the even demonstrated how the characters can work together using said abilities to tackle tough foes. The fact that it suggested it would have a soundtrack made up of iconic rock songs was just icing on the cake. And then it went and sold that beautiful soul it had for the usual muddy mass produced golem core that makes up games these days.

My last words will be "I only wanted Spore to be good."
Every new COD or MW apparently makes at least a million players go "OH BOY!" .
Wait. Wait wait wait. They asked 12-year-olds about the feel, fore some Goddamned reason. And those same 12-year-olds —the demographic best known for thinking saying "shit" makes you an ultimate badass and that Pixar films are for dumb homo tools— said that this was a game for their little brothers. And they listened.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Yeeeeup.
They say EA had no involvement with the decision, but they also avoid answering anything about Overstrike in the QA.
Either they are completely ashamed of their decision, or they were forced to.

I thought graphics don't make a game, but the gameplay does. As long as the game's fun, why should you care about how it looks? I get the appeal of an aesthetic with character in a sea of Real Is Brown shooters and action games, but shouldn't the gameplay be the thing that keeps the entire package together?

MW is Co D. And that's because the games are Co D. They've got a strong reputation, and, many seem to agree, are fun to play.
this place needs me hereIts less about the grapics, and more about the aesthetic for me. Its not just the grahpics that seems to have changed its the whole style. It no longer has any personality.

Graphics don't make a game but the game feels like it was designed by a robot who just went off by looking at statistics of what apparently sells.
"STATISTICS SHOW THAT AGE GROUP: 12 through 21 year olds ENJOY: Gritty and realistic shooters. PROCESSING GAME TO MEET PARAMETERS"
Its all a bland gray mess with nothing interesting going on.
Which makes the whole "M" Rating thing pretty damn Moot if they're going to be listening to kids who shouldn't even be playing the damned game.
