I always thought the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" sounded somewhat familiar from the moment I first heard it, but I couldn't ever quite put my finger on it. Then, the other day, a White Stripes song came on while I was driving home from school, and suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Every time Luke Bryan reaches the bridge of "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)", my mind goes "S to the I to the M to the P".

[up][up] I'm familiar with both songs, but didn't really connect the two until your post - the bassline sounds similar and you can pretty much sing the verse lyrics of one over the verse section of the other.

"Beverly Hills", "The Sweater Song" and "Say It Ain't So" all sound pretty much the same to me. They're not bad or anything, but can Weezer do any other kind of song?

I think "Superstition" and "Stayin' Alive" start off kind of similar, and if you're not familiar with either, you might get kind of confused as to which one's which. The difference is "Superstition" is a good song and "Stayin' Alive" is overplayed and annoying as shit.

[up] "Say It Ain't So" sort of seems like the odd one out to me there, but I can kind of see "Beverly Hills" as an attempt to repeat the "Undone" formula. Also, for the fun of it I tried to think of the Weezer song that sounds the least like any of those, and decided it might be this.

[up][up] I see what he's getting at, the drumming is very much the same, but that's about it in similarities though. It's a drum beat they use a lot, although I give it a pass because Weezer songs are supposed to be musically simplistic.

The beginning of Time Machine always reminds me of something, but I'm never sure if it's genuinely another song or... Time Machine. Though I think it might just be Child of Innocence.

So, "Caribou" by Pixies vs. "Find Me" by Hüsker Dü. The interesting thing is that the former came out just a couple of years after the latter, and Pixies were in fact influenced by Hüsker Dü early on - there's that oft-cited bit of trivia about Kim Deal joining the band after responding to a classified ad looking for a female bassist who enjoyed both Hüsker Dü and Peter Paul And Mary.

"Doesn't Remind Me" remind me of "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution."

They're about the same length, feature high-pitched vocals and a similar chorus.

It took me way too long to identify X-Factor runner-up Olly Murs as the singer responsible for "Troublemaker". The first step was to stop looking for the song on Maroon 5's discography.

Today I realized that "Get Lucky" sounds like "Around the World" if you tranposed it up 2 keys. They're both by Daft Punk, so it might be subconscious.

It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.

"Terms of Psychic Warfare" by Hüsker Dü is essentially just a heavier version of "Difference of Opinion" by The Montanas.

[up] Wow, I've never heard the latter song and that's pretty much the case. Hüsker Dü seem to have been pretty versed in 60's rock for a punk band (they've covered Donovan and The Byrds, for one), so it seems plausible to me that they actually had heard that song.

Nirvana - Milk It (1993) vs Melvins - It's Shoved (1991). This has to be intentional on Nirvana's part - Kurt Cobain was a major Melvins fan and unsuccessfully auditioned for them before starting his own band. Someone in the comments also points out that the Melvins song has a guitar lick about 45 seconds in that sounds a lot like Nirvana's "Love Buzz" *

- but if anything that would be Melvins borrowing from Nirvana, because their version of the song came out in 1988.
