Yeah, but when you can prove numerically you're going to commit a crime if things don't change for you and you still don't get help... it's kind of your fault.

[up][up] Let's not forget, that the system seems to actually work (I mean technologically). So all the people it picks up are on the edge of nervous breakdowns, repressing lots of violent urges, or otherwise dangerous people.

The guy didn't just "go psycho as a result" of being chased, him going psycho was what set off the Psycho-pass in the first place.

[up] I don't hink that the system can actually prove that they are going to commit a crime. This is not Minority Report, there is no accurate future-viewing. It can only tell that they are going psycho, and thus likely to be violent.

Thoughts:

  • That's a nice cityscape.
  • Seems like someone likes the Kiritsugu and Kotmine dynamic/rivalry.
  • Rain. Good. I like rain, although for some reason they usually use it to show something bad.
  • This must be the "Team".
  • And these must be the weapons.
  • They really do seem quite normal despite being criminals - at least for the leads in this kind of anime anyway.
  • So you can avoid the paralyser setting of the dominator with drugs? Sounds like the sort of thing that could be useful. Which leads me to the next point...
  • These guns have really slow response time. You would think that you would potentially need the trigger to work instantly. I thought initially that the voice might just be lagging behind the actual processing speed, but it sure doesn't look like it.
  • Sounds like the society has serious problems and these guys are just working against the symptoms of the deeper problem.
  • Dead. An expected outcome.
  • Some compassion for the hostage? Check her wellbeing? Maybe they could help her in her fragile emotional state... Oh there we-
  • Oh. You really shouldn't be able to just turn into a criminal in less than an hour.
  • Well if he's just going to use the paralyser setting that's not too bad. Whether you believe him on the other hand...
  • Too late the other guy's going to do the job.
  • Good job saving the hostage. In Gen world that's almost impossible. Well, I guess even if she's alive she's emotionally traumatised, so that's probably why she was allowed to live.
  • Come on, the newbie handled this pretty well. No civilian casualties even.
  • But all that is more or less just the premise, so...?

All in all, I'm not sure I'll follow it. Like a lot of anime this season the introduction seems quite slow. No plot so far. It's very dark, I wonder if it will mostly take place at night and in back alleys?

Well the characters aren't anything special, which isn't a good sign when we're only just booting up the darkness induced apathy scale.

But I'll probably give it another episode.

Well that was dark. Intriguing premise and setting, not too much else. Still, it was mostly exposition so it should improve. Any bets on how many people will die?

Well, obviously either MENTOR or barette guy. (look closley at the redhead, he does have barettes.)

Also, it it okay that I added After the End to the page?

[up][up] I don't doubt that people will die, but remember that's one of the least creative ways to create suffering. Plus death is a release.

[up] No. This most definitely isn't set After the End, because that would imply that humanity has suffered some great calamity and mostly died. More specifically you would expect that the city would be falling apart in such a scenario, there would be no organised police and what technology there was that used Ascetic Aesthetic you would expect to at least look old and worn.

There just isn't enough to support that setting at the moment. The futuristic themes overrule it. Later evidence may suggest otherwise, but here humanity seems to be thriving. I think it's more logical to assume that the buildings are abandoned because they're underwater due to rising sea levels.

Interesting, though I think it may be going too heavily on the dystopian side of things early on. With the main character already questioning things and the worst parts of the system laid bare, I'm not sure how they can stretch this out for another 21 episodes

I have a feeling that Akane is going to be either either broken or dead by the end, considering that Gen rarely treats those kinds of characters well ie Saber and Sayaka.

Also, the show really is Judge Dredd! tongue

Curses.

I like Akane. Her looks are kind of novel and I like her droopy eyes. Plus, she's the one I agreed with the most in the first episode... Hey she even managed to avoid that woman getting killed! Didn't see that one coming.

Now to see her slow descent into despair followed by death. :(

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

[up] That's Gen for ya.

Now, will Akane be broken in the end like Saber, or we she be dead in the end like Sayaka? That is the question.

Its kind of hard to classify Saber as broken since the breaking in Zero didn't really stick.

[up][up]

Saber's one of my favourite characters, so that's a scary line of thought, just imagine what he would do to her if he could. Nasu already mentioned a few things...

All in all, I was impressed by the first ep, solid visuals and music, along with an interesting if disturbing premise. Liking the characters too, especially Akane, she seems nice. It's a pity she'll probably die soon...

[up] Psycho Pass really does feel like something that crawled out of the '90s (more specifically, it feels like Ghost In The Shell), so their stated goal of going against current trends is a resounding success.

The first episode, however, was... uninspiring. Generic Psycho McRapist and an annoying (through salvageable) newbie viewpoint character? Meh. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is good, the animation is solid, and nobody seriously thinks that we've seen the real Psycho Pass yet.

While they say the word 'moe' was banned, they certainly didn't avoid the concept. Akane is definitely moe

If the definition of moe we're using is "I wanna cuddle them and tell them it will be alright", then yes, Akane is definitely moe. Poor girl. What a rough first day at work sad

One of the reviews at MAL was right, almost all guys are indeed GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY or homo. The notable exception was the old guy (described in the review as a "STRAIGHT UP M*********A) and the main male character (which the review described as "he's cool, and all around MAH NIGGA").

As I interpreted it the review considers most of the guys as fanservice for the straight girls that would be watching this, and a wet dream for the yaoi fangirls that would be watching this. The old guy is essentially the Cool Old Guy while the male main character is the rare breed of male main characters, the non-Idiot Ball holder.

... Uh huh...

Well, Gen did say he wanted to write BL at some point. Still, I don't see redhead going gay any time soon, considering the extremely rapey vibes he was giving off. Still, I suppose this is why the Depraved Bisexual trope exists...
