The final part of the Marley High School AU parody is over.

  • Willy Tybur hosts a meeting of principals from all over the nation, with the warrior kidlets entertaining the guests.
  • Eren and co thrown out of Marley Academy, but they use a diversion to break back into the event.
  • Willy makes a speech, discussing the Internal/External system at Marley Academy. He confesses to having been an External student himself, and planned to destroy the system when he became principal. But he realizes it is necessary for the student body — they need approved targets for bullying, to maintain order.
  • Eren leaps onto stage from above, parodying Titan Eren attacking Willy. He falls flat on his face, and argues with Willy.
  • No Name appears on stage, and begins rocking out. (Eren is still an idiot that doesn't recognize Levi, Hange, and Mike)
  • A flashback reveals that Pieck and Galliard approached them, asking for their assistance to save Marley academy with the Power of Rock.
  • It isn't enough and the students begin to riot.
  • SUDDENLY! Revo appears on a white horse, summoned by the Power of Rock to save everyone. He hands the microphone to Eren, and they start rocking out on stage.
  • The Marley students realize their mistake, helping Reiner and co up onto stage with their friends.
  • Peace is achieved with the straight-laced Marley students discovering ROCK!! and having a healthy outlet for their school-related stress.

I could buy that ending. tongue …Now I think of it, music seems completely absent in AOT's world. I wonder if that's deliberate.

Speaking of High-school AU, the end-of-volume college AU strips are pretty funny too. tongue Though… less funny when you realize that half of the characters that appear in it are dead in the actual story.

Also interesting that the back covers from volume 23 on now feature the Marleyan warriors instead of team 4 (plus Eren facing them in volume 25).

[up] That's true, the only time we've seen music being played in-series was Levi's side story that had a street musician in the underground slums.

It's interesting how they maintained the whole "The world needs scapegoats" issue of the current arc, while softening it. I mean, it still kinda thumbs its nose at Japan's infamously harsh school system. But still using the idea of the villain claiming that society cannot function and peace is only possible with an approved group to scapegoat and abuse.

Eldians = Transfer students, in this case.

Similar to the Tyburs' plot to unite humanity under the banner of destroying Paradis, framing Eren as the villain.

We're talking about ending theories? Personally I'm still thinking we might get some variation of the time loop theory. It seems like the sort of ambiguous bittersweet ending Isayama would go for.

Question to those who are watching Season 3 of the anime: Have they shown, or are they going to show, the scene where Levi and Hange torture that military police guy in all its gory detail? I really cringed at the part in the manga and would rather not see it in animated form.

I think we've passed it and I don't remember it being particularly gory, but I'm not certain top of my head

Not "in all its gory detail", no. The scene is there, but it's been watered down to an extent − no Hange pulling out the guy's teeth or Levi breaking his already broken nose, for example.

I think? Probably off-screen though, because I don't remember "seeing" it per se.

And I perfectly understand why you wouln't want to see that. I still have flashbacks of that… other series…

They actually did it.

Funny how the reaction to it from anime-onlies is the complete opposite of manga readers.

Leaks of 109 starting to filter out. Take everything with a huge grain of salt.

  • Falco and Gabi taken to the Braus household, where numerous orphaned kids have been taken in. They are offered a meal, but Gabi panics when Mrs. Braus tries to stroke her hair. The Braus' express sorrow over how she must have been through terrible things, to be so afraid of being touched. Falco calms things down. — tbh, I expect there will be another round of Gabi-hate over this, even though the tone of the scene is basically another heavy-handed HEY MARLEY (coughbraunclancough) IS ABUSIVE. In that Sasha's dad immediately zeroes in on how Gabi is clearly terrified of them and it's because someone taught her to be afraid. Papa Braus is not amused by this.
  • A mini-riot outside the gates, with Floch leading a crowd demanding Eren's release. He keeps ranting about the "New Eldian Empire" and how they need to unleash the Rumbling, while Hanji pointedly corrects him that it's "just Eldia" and that they can't count on the Rumbling keeping them safe now that the rest of the world has good reason to fear them.
  • Mikasa briefly meets the girl she'd once saved, who ends up in the brig for siding with Floch's riot. She has a flashback to the day she met Eren, getting a bad headache in the process. She recalls him saying something strange to her, implying it's been "years" since he saw her last. Mikasa is confused about this memory, as it makes no sense for Eren to have already known her on that day — more evidence of Path timey-whimey going on with the Attack Titan's owners, since Eren Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin to Grisha.
  • Falco and Gabi stay at the Braus farm, working in the stables to earn their keep. Gabi is terrible at it, falling into buckets and getting bitten by a horse. The girl from earlier visits with lunch, and takes about her past.

I'm over the Gabi hate at this point. I just need Isayama to give me more reasons to hate Floch so I'll have the biggest shit machine-eating grin when he dies.

I get the feeling Floch is going to be a complete idiot and try to unleash the Wall Titans without Eren's help.

Both of these Spoiler comments are the Truth. Floch is proving himself increasingly influential with many soldiers backing him. Which makes him DANGEROUS, since he's a fanatical Eldian supremacist and nationalist that wants to destroy the rest of humanity.

[up] Well, atm Floch is basically the high priest of the Cult of Eren. He's a fanatic that loves the new Eren, and is all hashtag Free Eren so he can kill all the infidels.

Though I could see that changing REAL FAST should Armin and co be successful in bringing Eren back to his senses.

So basically Floch and his supporters leaked info regarding Eren to the press.

It's rather ironic Hange is moving away from Flegel and the two reporters, the ones who helped the SC ensure the previous uprising would be a success.

Yeah Karl Fritz might have been right to erased his people's memories to avoid people like floch from restarting the fight.

[up]Yeah and Ol'Karl was right to let the Eldians be horrifically persecuted by everyone if they are just going to repeat the same mistakes again.

Poor Hange, she's basically reversing the promises she made during the Uprising Arc. What happened to letting the truth out and not being like the Royal Family?

"Yeah Karl Fritz might have been right to erased his people's memories to avoid people like flouch" Well when you have people on the street calling for genocide, you kind of have to compromise. I mean Karl Fritz could have taken a much better approach, probably save more of his people and at least being will to take action against attacks from the outside. But the spoiler show that floch is not alone in his opinion.

The truth had to come out at some point but holding on to it until a third of your people are eaten doesn't do much to avoid them from getting pissed and wanting to commit mass murder.
