Our Next Feature Presentation: The Stuff (10/12)

Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Alright, we're off and running with a new video sideshow from Vice, cRiT1KaL shining a spotlight on the most embarrassing video on You Tube (of This Week), and The World's Largest Gyoza Dumpling. You heard me.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we settle in for some giallo shenanigans in What Have They Done to Your Daughters?

Tonight's feature presentation came down to a coin flip. Between fire and ice, ice won out, and now we got a disaster movie about a meteor strike causing deadly freezing temperatures which would make Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze jealous.

(Next time: Be on the lookout for Steve Gutenberg and Nia Peebles in a disaster movie about a volcano eruptions in Los Angeles - yes - unleash a horde of giant "lava-breathing" spiders)

This is Icetastrophe...

This movie portrays at least some kind of winter, because my home state sure as hell hasn't had one this year!

[up]Wait until next month... or early spring.

Anyway, we're off and running with another new sideshow from Vice and some other crazy stuff.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we embrace a most post-apocalyptic winter chill in the novelly titled Icetastrophe...

Lol, talk about divided!

An X, a 1, a 3 and a 4! And someone who abstained. Well it got split down with 🧊🧊.

This is, I think, the third time we're watching tonight's movie. A bit funny we'd be watching this so soon after revisiting The Oscar, too, considering their connections to writer Harlan Ellison.

Anyway, it's the film that helped inspire the Fallout video games (At the very least, shaped the concept of traversing a post-nuclear desert wasteland with a dog companion... and, maybe, stumbling upon crazy vaults, too). A young Don Johnson traverses the wastes with a psychic canine in A Boy and His Dog...

Oh, HO-OH-HOOOOOoooooooooooo...

This Kung Fu Friday, we're rolling out a novel piece of Brucesploitation outright ripping off the real Bruce Lee's last-ever movie.

So here's Bruce Li in Goodbye, Bruce Lee: His Last Game of Death...

#22434: Feb 14th 2020 at 4:11:15 PM

Wow. Bruce Lee, played by Bruce Li, in what's meant to be a sendoff to Bruce Lee.

SeanMurrayI Since: Jan, 2010
#22435: Feb 14th 2020 at 4:35:55 PM

[up]He's appeared in lots of Brucesploitation titles (including some other stuff we've watched here over the years), along with Bruce Le, Dragon Lee, and Bruce Leigh...

I may or not be making that last one up. Anyway...

Oh HO-OH-HOOOOOOooooooooooooo...

We're starting off Kung Fu Friday with a short Asian horror film whose video title includes the tagline "The photo she posted online came back to haunt her" ... and the video description notes "(TW: Mention of Suicide)"

After that, at the top of the coming hour, we're diving six feet under for some outstanding Bruceploitation in Goodbye, Bruce Lee: His Last Game of Death...

The gist of tonight's movie is a shitty Blair Witch Project wannabe.

More specifically, this found footage story is premised around "secret video files just discovered on an FBI server" that suggests the government has been hiding "evidence" of otherwise unexplained disappearances in the Pacific Northwest. In a different world, in a different time, maybe this could have made for a good episode of The X-Files.

Submitted for your approval, I give you Eyes in the Dark...

Okay, we're off with a video from Jerma and a Vice video sideshow spotlighting Pureflix, of all things.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we're setting our Eyes in the Dark.

So tonight's movie, from what I gather, pits Earth in the middle of an intergalactic battle for possession of a meteorite MacGuffin that contains "the souls of billions of alien predators" and can potentially be used to destroy our planet.

This is Alien Force, featuring Burt Ward.

We're off and running with Part One of a Jerma retro video game playthrough.

Tonight, we got something really special lined up—a mystery/thriller from some guy named Francis Ford Coppola made in-between a pair of films I've never heard of before called The Godfather and The Godfather Part II.

I give you Gene Hackman as a professional snoop, also featuring Cindy Williams and some other guy called Harrison Ford, in The Conversation...

Okay, we start off with where we began yesterday—Part 2 of Jerma's playthrough of... EA's imitation of Midway's NFL Blitz.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, grab a glass of your finest wine and settle in with Francis Ford Copolla's underrated The Conversation.

Moving from one Coppola movie to another...

This one being a bit better known, it's basically his own spin on Back to the Future, where a grown woman attending her high school reunion collapses and mysteriously wakes up back in her senior year of high school (with all the hindsight and gained experiences from adulthood to alter the course of her life... or to make the same choices all over again).

I give you Peggy Sue Got Married, starring Kathleen Turner, Catherine Hicks, Barry Miller, Joan Allen, Sofia Coppola... and two guys named Jim Carrey and Nicolas Cage (Nicolas Cage's insistence on basing his character's voice on that of Gumby's friend Pokey almost got him fired from his uncle's own movie)...

We've already survived the Icetastrophe the other week. Now, we see if we can make it through Lavalantula (Lava + Avalanche + Tarantula ???)!

With Steve Guttenberg and Nia Peebles!

Honestly, this looks pretty fun.

Icetastrophe had us divided totally from X to 4 with a completely even split that resulted in a 2.0 (despite no-one voting 2).

On the other hand, I don't see this movie dividing us like that. But I hope it turns out pretty fun!

We're gonna have to get more eyes on Lavalantula. That was the most fun time I had with SyFy trash in quite some time.

Anyway, tonight we're revisiting Love on a Leash, a romantic comedy about a woman who... falls in love with a golden retriever that, at night, turns into a man.

Ship missed the movie the first time we saw it, but he said he'd give it a 4. grin
