So the more I think of the ten years, the more I realize that I need to heavily edit my character. Don't think he would've stuck it out that long. Would it be okay if he's still technically in the Watch, but not at the Wall? I can't think of where he'd be, but I think I'd need to consider him allied with the Kingdom of the North, yes?

...I did not put much thought into my signup. I am very sorry...

  • Name: Maylas Flowers
  • Titles: The Rose Singer
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 23
  • Faction: Kingdom Of The North
  • Equipment: A ash wood flute carved with vines and flowers, a plain bronze lyre, and various small knives that he keeps hidden on his person (that he refers to as his "thorns")
  • Appearance: Maylas is lean and lanky, with curly dirty blonde hair, pale skin, and green eyes. When traveling or doing day-day things he dresses in bulky wool and linen that makes him seem much smaller then he actually is. When performing, or at court, he dresses in vibrant summer colors, favoring green and white, if he has access to flowers he will tuck a lone one into his lapel, though rarely indulges this habit since coming North.
  • Personality: Maylas has a amiable and kind nature, coupled with a often over-dramatic flare and a tendency toward hyperbole. He is blusterous, irritatingly emotive, and occasionally arrogant. He often comes across as a fool or a lack wit, but he does nurse degree of cunning, along side a almost naive black and white view of the world. He has an unshakeable faith in the triumph of good and defeat of evil, coupled with a profound wanderlust and desire for adventure.
  • History: A bastard boy born in The Reach he grow up fascinated by singers, Mummers, and other traveling performers, eventually deciding to become one himself. Maylas styled himself "The Rose Singer" and set out to see the world, signing, dancing, paying, and sleeping his way through the Reach, the Stormlands, and Dorne, where he took a ship North to White Harbor after a scandal with the son of a minor noble house wore out his welcome at court. Tales of a war with the Night King and The-King-Beyond-The-Wall have drawn Maylas towards Winterfel where he means witness-and record in song-history in the making.
  • Strengths: Maylas is quick, with good reflexes and a degree of cunning, he is also a good singer with a knowledge of many different stories and songs from various places in the Seven Kingdoms.
  • Weaknesses: Physically inept and trusting to the point of naivety, he has a particular weakness for dark-haired boys and is prone to telling his lovers more then he should. Maylas also falls in love at the drop of a hat and expects his lovers to reciprocate his feelings. He is vain, and places a high value of style and beauty.
  • Other information: He is a lightweight drinker, and easily intoxicated, his personal favorite song is "The Jewels Of Highgarden", he traveled briefly with a band of Mummers in the Stormlands that taught him how to tumble, and on of his goals in life is to see all Nine Free Cites as well as Asshai By The Shadow.

@Troliolio: ...Died of severe stomach pain? ^_- That doesn't sound like the sort of thing that would kill you, even Beyond-The-Wall... Make it, at the very least, food poisoning...

Other than that, accepted.

@Chris: You could make him a defector, either to the North or the Wildlings. Alternatively, you could put him in a position where he was never really close to the Night King until recently, such as, he spent most of the ten years at Eastwatch-By-The-Sea, before being transferred to Nightfort...

@stalker: Accepted!

...Also, for some reason, I really want to kill off your character, like in a final battle, or something, either as a Heroic Sacrifice, or a Kick the Dog moment... Not that I'll do that, necessarily, but it was the first thought that came to mind...

I changed his faction to the North and edited his history. Hope that's okay.

...Could you change his history a bit so that, in stead of being rejected, and becoming a farm hand, he's accepted, and is fighting with the Kingdom of the North? I'd like this for two reasons.

  1. There's no reason for the North not to accept him to their side.
  2. I don't see how to get him into this war, if he's just a farmhand...

Well, he wasn't so much rejected from the North. He was trying to specifically get to the King to ask for aid and was denied audience. Though I do see the trouble with getting him into the war, I was hoping some big stuff would happen at the Wall fairly early on. He'd hear and realize that he needed to get the Night King gone, then join up with the North.

But yeah, I'll get on those changes.

Still, the King of Winter has no reason to deny a Night's Watchman audience. In fact, he'd probably see him ASAP. At two years in, he was still trying to find a peaceful solution.

Nah, it's fine.

One last thing, is it ok if I make him an advisor to the King, one of the Princes, or a general? He seems like the sort of person the King of Winter would like, and he's a former Black Brother, so he would have a lot of information on their tactics and whatnot, and it would allow them to keep a close eye on him.

I was actually thinking that, but didn't want to ask. Does this come with a title? (As in, would I need to go back an add a title to that?)

No, since the King of Winter would be treating him as if he were a Black Brother, since he considers everyone who sided with the Night King to be deserters, and anyone who splits off to be true Night's Watchmen.

Name: David Whyvenyr

Titles: Darkly

Gender: Male

Age: 23

Faction: Wilding

Equipment: David has rather little in the way of equipment. All he has is his clothes, a small collection of daggers, and a large stash of gold he refuses to ever spend.

Appearance: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/sdasdgasf.png/

Personality: David is a pretty gloomy person, misanthropic, to say the least. He's very negative, and can be very agressive at times.

History: After running away from his abusive home when he was around 15, David learned two valuable lessons. First, it's a dog-eat-dog world out there, and if you intend on surviving, you'd better be good at what you do. Second, there will not be anyone out there to help you once you leave home, so you'd better be self-sufficient. He also quickly learned that the best way to survive, is to leech off of someone else's success, as a thief of sorts. A few years, and about five arrow wounds later, David got pretty good at being a thief. He learned stealth, speed, and agility while on the job, and the people who he stole from all learned how to hide their gold better. He eventually had to start living life differently, however, when he was eventually captured and sentenced to work at The Wall for the rest of his days. He worked at the soul-crushingly boring Wall for about a year, until he ultimately gave up on the whole complicated mess and joined the Wilding. Nowadays, he serves half as the espionage commander of the Wilding, hellbent on making the Kingdom's life as miserable as possible, and half as he used to, a thief.

Strengths: David is a master of stealth gained from his years as a thief, and isn't too dim, either. He also prefers daggers to swords, but isn't a stranger to one. He's also very light on his feet and agile.

Weaknesses: David is not very well built— like, at all. If he were to ever try to wear full iron armor, he's probably break something of his.

Other information: David uses his title 'Darkly' as the name he goes by in the Wilding base, and David everywhere else. He also occasionally writes mocking notes he leaves at the sites of his victims.

I have a couple of quibbles about your sign up, which is mostly my fault for not making Wildling culture clear in my op.

First, "it's a dog-eat-dog world out there" is pretty much the philosophy of all Wildlings, so he wouldn't have to learn that by running away from home. His parents would've hammered it in.

Second, the Wildlings don't really have gold, or any form of currency, so he'd probably be stealing weapons and food and whatnot.

Third, the Wildlings don't really have laws, nor would they ever put a bounty on someone. He may become a notorious thief, and have most people drive him out of any village he goes to, or try and hunt him down, but there would always be someone who wouldn't care.

Fourth, he wouldn't write notes as I'm pretty sure the majority of Wildlings are illiterate.

Fifth, the Wildlings don't really have last names, so he'd just be David.

Again, those are just quibbles. Minor things. I only have one major problem with it. How does someone who is clumsy, and has bad eyesight become a master thief? A better weakness would be a lack of strength, and a bad reputation among the Wildlings, so they'd be more inclined to turn on him. Now, this isn't too big of a problem, but I couldn't accept you with this problem.

If you can make the necessary changes, I will certainly accept your character.

"First, "it's a dog-eat-dog world out there" is pretty much the philosophy of all Wildlings, so he wouldn't have to learn that by running away from home. His parents would've hammered it in."

What I didn't really make clear was that David wasn't born a Wildling, he defected there after the Kingdom put a hefty bounty on him.

"Second, the Wildlings don't really have gold, or any form of currency, so he'd probably be stealing weapons and food and whatnot."

Again, he was stealing from the Kingdom, not the Wilding whom he actually likes a bit.

"Third, the Wildlings don't really have laws, nor would they ever put a bounty on someone. He may become a notorious thief, and have most people drive him out of any village he goes to, or try and hunt him down, but there would always be someone who wouldn't care."

He runs to the Wilding villages for that reason exactly. They don't care about what happens to their enemy, so he's safe there.

"Fourth, he wouldn't write notes as I'm pretty sure the majority of Wildlings are illiterate."

He's from the Kingdom, and he could have learned there.

"Fifth, the Wildlings don't really have last names, so he'd just be David."

Kingdom.

"Again, those are just quibbles. Minor things. I only have one major problem with it. How does someone who is clumsy, and has bad eyesight become a master thief? Well being a little clumsy I wouldn't imagine is that much of a cripple, and in close-quarters combat being able to see well wouldn't be bad either, but whatever, I can change it if you want.

Ok, so, if he comes from the Kingdom of the North, how did he get past the Wall? I mean, only the Night's Watch goes on or past it? Like, did he join the Night's Watch, then defect to the Wildlings, or something?

Given that thievery needs good, steady hands, careful, silent movement, and noticing danger before it notices you. Clumsiness hampers the first two a ton, and bad eyesight the third.

I'd imagine if you were a good enough thief to go uncaught for around 5 years, you'd be able to sneak through a building unnoticed. Even one as secure as The Wall. Also: I changed the weaknesses.

The Wall isn't a building, in the traditional sense. It's basically a 700 foot wall made of ice and snow. The only entrances and exits either have Black Brothers posted at them 24/7, and are more of gates than doors, are magic, and require you to be a member of the Night's Watch to open them, and/or are completely secret.

...Maybe he stole some old blueprints of The Wall and found a way through? I dunno, I kinda made that part of the APP under the mindset that The Wall wasn't a giant block of ice sitting between my character's destination.

To utterly misquote a spell description from Fantasy Online-

"It's hard to punch through ice."

...The Wall doesn't really have blueprints... It was designed by Bran the Builder, the first King of Winter, and probably built by Giants. If Bran even bothered with blueprints, he probably burned them when he was finished.

...Now, it's entirely reasonable for a thief to get sent to the Wall as punishment for thievery, and it's entirely possible for a Night's Watchmen to go, "Fuck it, I'm joining the Wildlings."
