Figured I'd make this thread and see how many people even care, since people seemed intrigued at it when I brought it up before, and a few other forums have threads for this.

Weekly Shounen Jump's Table of Contents rankings, which are in every issue, sorts the contents of the magazine to generally represent the votes on the weekly reader surveys, to represent how they the votes were for 8 weeks ago. Colour pages and the first few chapters of a series are excluded from the ranking, since the editors place those series wherever they please.

These rankings are a key factor in determining what does and doesn't get cancelled in Jump, unlike other magazines, with stuff at the botton getting cut first unless their volume sales were significantly high (such as the numbers achieved by Nura and To Love Ru, despite their consistently low rankings).

This week's rankings were as follows:

Issue 29:
Beelzebub (Cover, Lead Colour)
1. Toriko
2. One Piece
3. Nisekoi
Barrage
Haikyuu!! (Center Colour, Extra Pages)
PSI Kusuo Saiki
Koganeiro (Final Chapter, Extra Pages)
Kuroko No Basuke (Center Colour)
4. Gintama
Koisome Momiji
5. Sket Dance
6. Kochikame
7. Medaka Box
8. Reborn
9. Bleach
Pajama na Kanojo (Center Colour)
10. Kurogane
11. Nurarihyon No Mago
12. magico
Naruto (Absent)

Issue 30:
Cover/Lead Colour: Toriko
Center Colour: Reborn!, Medaka Box (Popularity Poll), Bimbougami Ga! (special chapter to advertise the anime, normally in Jump SQ)
Extra Pages: Kurogane, Bimbougami Ga!
Absent: One Piece

I'm surprised Toriko beat One Piece, but the chapter last week wasn't very exciting.

I wonder where Naruto falls in there. I'd put it 3rd or 4th in the current line-up.

Naruto had a streak in first ever since Sasuke and Itachi started fighting against Kabuto, so I'd bet 1st.

Also, the ranks are based on 8 weeks ago, not last week...

The popularity of Nisekoi never fails to surprise me.

Toriko chapter was really good so I'm not surprised

I wonder how to God, Nisekoi is so popular since it's cliche: the manga.

Awesome was just thinking about making this thread. Glad to see toriko and one piece are still having some bit of a healthy competition. As usual naruto just needs to end,its long overstayed its welcome IMO.

[up]I don't see how the ranking shows that Naruto has overstayed its welcome. I mean, it was absent this week and has had a streak of 1sts for the past while, not to mention that it's solidly in second in yearly sales...

You're thinking of Bleach. It keeps staying at the bottom and didn't make the top 10 in sales this year.

[up]

I Wasnt speaking in terms of ranking persay. Just that the fact that it has been in its final arc well over a year now or so it seems. Anyways yeah, why bleach is still allowed in the lineup is still a mystery to me as well.

Wasn't it shown that its tankoban (manga) sells have dipped considerably? Or did i imagine that? Leaving zero reason to keep it? Man kubo's gonna keep this running as long as possible huh?

Bleach is still far, far above average.

I heard that Naruto's writer said this isn't quite the final arc.

It's on the Wars Climax.

Bleach is the one that needs to end soon, I think.

So does One Piece, really.

Hahahahahahahahaha, good luck with that one. evil grin

How do you intend to convince anyone that the series with no competition in sales needs to end? Remember, it was leading by a margin of ten million for the last half-year chart we got.

One Piece still has a bunch of plot threads that need to be resolved, and it's not like the arcs aren't good stories anyway. So it still can't end.

Bleach should have ended long ago, yeah.

Except the arcs merely start by repeating over and over again.

It's really annoying and plus it's horrible comedy is why I dropped the series as a whole after Impel down.

Yet, as the numbers show, more people enjoy it than the next four series under it combined, so your opinion in that matter means nothing. Just accept that as fact and move on.

I haven't read One Piece for a few months. But at the point I stopped, I felt One Piece to be really good at keeping innovating and avoiding repetitions. Yeah, a few arcs grew stale with time and repetitive. But, overall, it felt there were always something new going on. I feel no need for it to stop.

Bleach is a completely different matter, of course. I stopped way back in the time skip, but by then I felt it was just the same thing happening again and again at an annoyingly slow pace. I hoped the time skip would change it but, from what people are commenting, it was not the case.

[up]Do you have actual numbers? Or are you talking about the volume sales?

Unlike Naruto or One Piece, Bleach actually is ending. Now, it may take over a year to get there, but it's been formally announced and the current plotline is very much a end-of-the-world scenario.

Minor correction: magico's chapter this issue was actually the penultimate one. Jump Next will run the finale, like with Mago.

[up]We'll just have to wait. You never know. Most series tend to get someone.

EDIT: Mago's actually getting *three* chapters in Jump NEXT.

Assassination Classroom looks REALLY intresting. Hope it gets an American release in the future as well.
