Black Mesa

So, Marines trhowing grenades to themselves is better than combines doing strafe movement and taking cover???

To be fair, the marines grenading themselves is pretty rare (I didn't even know about it until I read about it, and I've played through the original several times). The way the Combine strafe and take cover is extremely impressive, but most of the level design is stacked in Gordon's favor. The courtyard showdown in Half-Life 2, where Alyx has to take down some generator is a good example of what can happen when the AI is at the top of its game, especially if you're playing on hard mode. Half-Life 1 gives you lots of places where you can watch what the AI is doing from a safe spot, letting you see how strategic the marines are, whereas Half-Life 2 doesn't give you as many places to spy on the enemies and watch their tactics. The second game might have the more advanced technology with the most potential, but the first game does a better job of showing it off.

Anyways, 14 hours until Black Mesa. I can't wait.

Aaaand predictably the server seems to have crashed. I wonder what could possibly have caused that.

Black screen for me as well. Oh well, not like I'm in a hurry.

Well, at least I can still wait until tomorrow, see what other people thought about it.

But they haven't been formally contacted by Valve to set it up, so we will have to wait.

Huh, the website appears to be online again at least.

Hey, I just heard about this (living under a rock, I know). Is it actually going to be on steam? I've heard conflicting stories and none of the outside downloads are working/or require me to download a bunch of annoying useless apps as well.

Yeah, it's actually going to be on Steam.

The question is not if, but when...hope it's on Steam soon...

Also, the music that plays when you open release page is really nice! (I'll download the game later, sleep time)

Admittedly my torrent-fu is weak, but I have no idea why I'm frustratedly looking at 0.0% with 1.3 kB/s download speed in uTorrent.

I'm really liking it so far, but I dunno if it makes the infamous 'Box Smashing Room' anymore plausiable, unless the rails could be lifted and lowered.

Plumped for a mirror in the end, took about 18 minutes.

Just got up to the test chamber, and then my computer decided that it inexplicably wanted to suddenly hibernate.

Double post, extremely silly question: how do I launch Black Mesa? When I installed it, I was given an option to launch it, but now I have absolutely no idea which executable file to use. Searching "black mesa" or "bms" in my search bar turns up exactly zilch.

Restarting your steam will do the trick

Loving the mod so far.

The mirrors are predictably bogged down, so as much as I want to play it, I think I'll wait until the Steam release. I may try it again tomorrow and play through it on normal if it downloads, then redownload it through once it comes out on Steam officially and play through it on hard.

I need HL 2 to play it right???

Any source game. Such as Counter Strike: Source.
