[up] A villain from the anime and manga One Piece who gives a rather compelling speech at one point about how relative the concept of "justice" is to different people with different experiences.

Technically, there's no law against what Cyclops has done, in either case.

There are like 4 laws on Krakoa and half of them are quite vague.

He has defied the Council's will but also with some explicit and tacit approval from some of the bigwigs.

The no-mutants thing is really just a very strong guideline.

That rule had been inconsistent, anyway, and looked easy to exploit like this.

It’s an offer of kindness in response to a law that they tried to enforce before but gave up on (superhero registration). Which is not Krakoa.

I never thought Cyclops stopped being "heroic".

[up][up]I think it was back during the House of M fallout where he started acting less like a superhero and more like a soldier. I mean, you can't blame him. Not with all the crap the X-Men were dealt. But fans of the 'old' Cyclops painted it as him going Magneto or becoming a terrorist or something. Even after Av X, he doubled down on the soldier sthick instead of bending backwards to please the fanbase, which reinforced the 'CYCLOPS IS A BAD' narrative.

Okay that is an impressive moment of kindness & friendship & from Cyclops especially.

Now if only the rest of the X-Men’s interactions with the rest of the MU were like that.

[up] They have been. Granted, it's not all hugs and kisses with everyone outside of Krakoa, but they're not flat out antagonistic either.

And to further the topic on Champions, how come whenever the government decides to be anti-hero they are portrayed as astoundingly competent but are always impotent in the face of the villains actually responsible for the devastation?

Like the government doesn’t even give a fuck about the supervillains.

They seem averse to use the money and their ridiculous amount of guns for anything actually useful.

Seriously this entire law makes no sense. Cradle is blatantly brainwashing their captured heroes in government internment camps & other heroes like Speedball & Justice are completely going along with it.

The only way this entire thing makes any sense is if Cradle is actually being led by a supervillain who’s trying to screw over the teen super community for whatever reason.

[up] Well considering how the government acts in real life, it’s sadly realistic to see them place so much on effort on shit that doesn’t actually matter.

I think the idea is that the New Warriors just don't want anyone else to go through what they did, but we're not gonna get anything that focuses on their thoughts because their book got canned.

[up]×2

That hasn't been officially stated anywhere and this week Union finally released and people thought that one was canned too.

Anyway, this week's Champions really made me like Cyclops.

And what happened to Amadeus? I thought he couldn't return to human form.

Still, missing Outlawed and the current Champions already going on really makes things awkward. Like, this is supposed to be what creates the new New Warriors, they don't get a new team and nothing to show their viewpoint in the whole Kamala Law business.

[up]If the New Warriors book cut out the new New Warriors and just focused on why the New Warriors would agree to this, that might have been worth a read.

That’s kind of the big issue with Champions/Outlawed; for a rehash on the Civil War plot it has fallen in the same faults of the original miniseries by failing to present a sort of Grey vs. Grey Morality in the conflict.

CRADLE in ALL of their appearance have been portrayed as fascist and the comics barely show the people who side with Kamala’s Law a compelling reason why they support such act beside being bootlickers or brainwash. It really takes out any intrigue in the conflict when the story portrays the two sides as the heroic rebellion who we have to cheer for vs the sell outs.

EDIT: Also it seems like Cyclops appearance in Champions book really bring out the best of the guy. Even in that divisive Waid run he looks good in that:

This is Civil War if they forgot to make Pro-Reg books. So we are left with a bunch of sell-outs no one will trust after this is done. Even if Pro-Regs were dicks, you could at least see their motivations instead of leaving us to think they just threw away all their morals for authority.

I'm entirely okay with a purely "Registration=Evil" side.

It worked for the X-men.

I just hope they realize it's purely evil.

An Evil Registration story would probably work if all of the heroes were against it. Keep in mind that in Armor Wars Iron Man fought the U.S. government just because they were using his technology without his permission, so he's hardly a pro-establishment character by nature. Same with Mr. Fantastic who helped shoot down a Superhuman Registration Act in Acts of Vengeance years before Civil War.

Really, the only reason there are any heroes cast in the role of evil government enforcers in events like these is because the writers are trying to add some artificial "conflict" to their stories.

Well, this event doesn't have that problem because it's not a hero v hero event. It's just "the kid heroes are in trouble, let's see what they do".

The big issue here is the New Warriors, who I'm almost certain are here because they were responsible for Civil War 1.
