I like how that alien has completely different body type from the insect-like thin limbs of Oxide.

He still appears to have four legs, though (the back legs are barely visible behind the wide front legs). So I guess Oxide is just really lean for his people.

I appreciate how they have different body types. I was worried that they'd just go the lazy route and make them Oxide palette swaps, but that doesn't appear to be the case. :V

There being others of Oxide's kind played a part in the speculating that the Tropy looking man wasn't him too.

Something I immediately noticed was the fact that there are branching paths during the rail grind section; both of which have crates on them.

It doesn't look like there's any way to do both paths from what is seen, so maybe that means crates broken are actually saved from when you previously beat a level?

If there are branching paths in levels, I hope the camera pans back far enough while you're backtracking that you can see where you're going.

May be that needing all the crates isn't a thing, at least on those levels.

I missed the part where that's my problem.

Or there might be some way to go back other than backtracking.

Those mini-lizard pirates remind me of the Komodo Bros., which makes me hope that they show up as the bosses of that area. Not likely, but hey. :V

I have to say, too, I've seen a fair few rail-sliding sequences in my time but I don't think I've seen any where they slide under the rail. Or rope, in this case. ...Christ, Crash's hands must be white-hot from all that friction. :V

Whoever was saying the levels were bigger was definitely right, at least some of the time.

They seem to be doing a thing where you alternate between wider areas with lots of boxes and space to walk around, which funnel back and forth into narrow areas more like the original games.

I've also recently bought the trilogy last week.

Man the jumping is tricky.

I believe native fortress is the one with a shortcut behind the fence. Skips the hardest part of the level.

The bridge levels are the really hellish ones, though thankfully they can be cheesed. And then there's the pitch black levels, which can't be cheesed.

I missed the part where that's my problem.

[up]No, the shortcut ends well before the part where you have to jump over three fires with ridiculously precise timing.

The three fires aren't that hard to get past. You're not supposed to make the three leaps in one go. You're supposed to jump onto the pillar on the wall when you get to the middle one, then jump back onto the fires.

There's a pillar there?!

Dammit, that would've made things much easier.

Well, it's not a pillar exactly. But the tree trunk in the wall directly behind the middle burner has a flat top that you can stand on, as opposed to having a pointy end like the others. The intended way to get past that bit without getting hurt is to jump onto that flat bit, and then jump back onto the burners.

That said, judging by a quick search on YouTube, a lot of players don't seem to realize that you can do this. I actually can't find a playthrough of the level where this bit is done the "correct" way. Instead, everyone seems to opt for making the three jumps in one go, which is very hard to do without getting hurt.

I think the reason so many players miss that (and the earlier shortcut) is because they see no reason to view the logs as anything other than background scenery. The idea that it's even possible to interact with them never even crosses their mind.

I didn't have too much trouble with Crash 1 when playing normally tbh.

That said 100% Completion is an exercise in masochism. I did it just so I can say I did it and never plan on doing it again.

The hardest part of Native Fortress for me was the two Venus Fly Traps on the slippery slopes. It's maddening. I had 23 lives and I lost 17 to them, and on top of that I ran out of the rest of my lives when I got sloppy. Now I have to do the whole level with 4. Considering just starting over from the beginning.

Could they not have given us infinite lives? Everyone agreed that they're pointless in gaming now. [lol]

Maybe not playing at two in the morning after I've chucked back some melatonin would help with my reflexes, mind. EDIT: Yes this helped immensely.

All running out of lives does is send you back to the start of the level, so it's not a huge consequence, but it gives you a challenge. I like having a bit of pressure.

Yyyeah conquering them would feel less meaningful if the game didn't have some sort of feeling of creeping dread.

But I can tell ya going back to the beginning of the level can indeed feel like a huge consequence.

I tried playing the original original Crash a while back, but I never made it past Slippery Climb. I don't remember having that much trouble with Native Fortress, but I had a lot of trouble with Sunset-bloody-Vista, and the High-bloody-Road. I think after spending a million years beating those levels, I 'noped' out when I got to Slippery Climb. I probably intended to come back to it later, but I never did. :V
