My PS 4 just had two new skins added, a duo of x-ray costumes for Crash & Coco.

How new is this?

I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uni

[up]I think it might have been part of the update that came alongside the launch of the next-gen versions, in early March?

So Crash Bandicoot is having a crossover with the Noid of all people.

Also the Noid is back, who would have guessed it lol.

This has to be one of the weirdest crossovers yet. Activision and Domino's have decided to add the Noid as a miniboss to Crash On the Run. There will also be special Domino's skins as well. No details about how long the event is or how to get the skins have been given out yet. The event will start on May 7th.

I know Activision has been bringing back obscure Crash characters recently, but I didn't think they would bring back characters old mascots from food chains.

That is quite disheartening to hear. I was hoping that after It's About Time they'd been focusing on a new Spyro.

It seems like if we are gonna get a new Crash or Spyro game, it would have to be a different developer.

I have not played a Call of Duty game in 10 years and I don’t regret it. I hate Call of Duty with a Flaming Passion.

[up] That's one way of putting it.

Honestly, I'd give away my soul if it'll make Call of Duty stop being a thing...

Every new game is literally the same exact thing as the one before it!

The trailers insinuate that they change stuff from before, but Yahtzee surmises the whole thing thusly: It's like going to a baseball game and saying "yeah, all the hitting balls and running around a diamond is kinda boring, but maybe they'll do something different with it this time."

And Toys for Bob?! Why have *them* develop for freaking Call of Duty? That's like asking the developers of the Kirby games to develop a NieR game!

It's like the only way COD gets canned is if the next games bomb harder than the last Medal of Honor game or every single person in the dev team gets MeToo'd. (And that latter one is admittedly a really horrible scenario I actually don't want to see.)

[up] When I made the analogy, I meant more like in terms of tone and storytelling.

Nier is infamously bleak and depressing while Kirby is the polar opposite of that. And I would rather relocate to the North Pole than subject my favorite pink puffball to that kind of emotional torture.

If it were up to me, I'd just have someone else buy Crash and Spyro from them. Maybe also the Tony Hawk games as well. Those seem to be the main things Activision is wasting the potential of. The problem is, I don't know who would be competent at making those platformers other than Nintendo, who I'm sure sees no need for them.

Then why has there been word of layoffs occurring in TfB? Or have I misheard?

I dunno. The back of my mind wants to think the Internet will eventually bully Activision to renege on this course of action, kind of like how it (the Internet) coaxed Sony to not cancel the PS3 and Vita digital stores, but Activision is one of those stubborn types that don't cave in to what the Internet says, isn't it?

The thing with Activision (and EA) is that they make games that appeal exclusively to mainstream audiences, not enthusiasts like us.

That’s why games like Call of Duty and the sports games still make money.

That also ties into my dislike of modern AAA games, that they all have to appeal to the mainstream and we aren’t allowed to have games that appeal to a more niche market.

Which is really ironic because haven't video games always been considered niche back in yonder olden days?

What happened is that video games became more mainstream during the 7th generation. Though admittedly it started to become more mainstream during the PS2 era but the 7th generation is when the way publishers operated changed to accommodate the mainstream market.

It's a little misleading to say that it's just because gaming went mainstream that caused this. The actual cause is that the industry lacks regulation.

No game that tops sales charts for months in a row should be considered niche.

[up]Fair point there, I was just venting out my frustrations with the modern AAA gaming industry.

But yes there is also no regulation for publishers which means that they will do very shady stuff like lootboxes.

But I do think that being more mainstream has caused some of my problems with the industry these days.

EDIT: And also a lot of publishers have ridiculous standards and aren't willing to take any risks anymore.
