Disable the flags in problem areas? (OTC, IP, TRS, etc)
One Piece blog Beyond the Lampshade+1 to bring back the flags, with the stipulation that anyone giving anyone shit because of their flag gets their badge privileges revoked and possibly a forum ban. Honestly, I'd say the same for religious affiliation badges but that's not my call.
My view on the flags is that we've had location listed on our bar for years with no incidents at all over it. I don't think flags are going to have any more effect than that does.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickYou could argue that rules could put a stop to zealous religious people and those who bash them as well however.
I don't mind them coming back or the lack of religious symbols though. I'm slightly bummed I won't have a Dhamma wheel, but oh well. There's potentially other neat things and I have other avenues of expressing my faith and interest in religion in general.
^^Yes indeed, but the question regarded flags. Is it a silly argument? Yes. Especially regarding what shima has mentioned. It is a potential argument regardless.

If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahI agree!
x5: That seems like a good idea.

Alt account of Angeldog 2437.By that logic, the fact that my title can be "Celtic Reconstructionist" means that religious badges should be allowed.
Mura: -flips the bird to veterinary science with one hand and Euclidean geometry with the other-I don't think we should have badges and then disable them. That would be silly.
I've never seen a thread go off-topic or to flames because of someone mentioning their nationality, but religion and politics do that to discussions. That's the difference.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur. That or banned from being used, Exe. Which would be hideously depressing...
^I do know people who would get into flame wars with certain nationalities due to differences in thought and disliking how they act. Generally they keep to themselves though.

If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahI've already expressed my opinion on any person who would derail a thread into flames based on someone's religion.
One thing to consider is TVT's userbase. We have all sorts of people of all sorts of different religions coexisting quite nicely. Take the pagan thread, for example- we have a fair number of Catholic people and a Buddhist who come in and chat amiably or ask questions. There has never been an inter-religious flame war there, and I don't expect there ever will be. While religion and politics are roughly equally hot-button in real life, most people here are far more vested in politics than religion.

Mura: -flips the bird to veterinary science with one hand and Euclidean geometry with the other-No the religious flame wars seem to be in OTC instead. Or the occasional derail in a yackfest thread. The religion covens are pretty friendly with one another. There's lots of traveling between them.

If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan Chah not to mention the fact that "desplaying your religious symbol" is a lot different than "trying to convert others to your religion" or "trying to explain why someone's religion is wrong"
Anyways, I think we have just about covered that topic. Unless we hear otherwise from Eddie, I think that that discussion should be dropped in this thread.
On a more useful topic, anyone got anything interesting for me to add to the OP?

Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!Well given the no religious symbols thing this has placed the yin-yang symbol in an odd area...Being a religious symbol, but also not being associated with Taoism all the time. I myself do because again I'm a weirdo who studies them for fun and amusement. I personally would prefer it removed from the list for the sake of consistency.
Though now I kind of want a rooster.
I'm not entirely sure what the rooster would be for nor why I want it. Merely that roosters are cool.

If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahThere should be a California state flag badge because California is the best state. It could be instead of the Canada badge.
Texas can have one too, but North Dakota isn't invited.

Rhymes with "Protracted."Pillbugs... meh.
Give a Komodo dragon badge, and I'll be more than satisfied.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows. But our flag is so retarded looking...
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahRoosters are better.
