Republique, a AAA stealth game for iOS.

Is it just me or is this guy taking on an insane gamble? He mentions having liquidated his life savings and is raising half of the million dollar budget required...for an iOS game.

I hope he succeeds because the game looks amazing but DAMN. It's crap like this why I could never be an entrepreneur.

So, how do you all think the big publishers will react to Kickstarter? Try to crush it via blacklists? Try to take advantage of it themselves? Somewhere in between?

Why would they care if it doesn't impact the sales of their big funded titles?

The thing about Kickstarter is that you're buying into the project only if it reaches its goal. It's kind of like preordering a game that's still in beta. Sure, there's a risk involved — the game never makes it to release, or it's horrible — but that's why you only pledge to things you're really interested in and not every single project on the site.

Kickstarter doesn't magically bypass the need to have a compelling product idea and market it well.

The big publishers look at Kickstarter like Valve looks at modders.

These guys on Kickstarter? They're trying to get attention from publishers.

This is a recruiting tool.

Ignore what Brian Fargo says. Fargo is an "indie developer" like Angelina Jolie is an "indie filmmaker". The real indie devs are guys trying to scrounge $10,000 for their project so they can be hired for bigger projects.

Fargo seems to imply that he'd rather not get back to dealing with publishers after all crap he has gotten apparently so yeah, I wouldn't call it getting attention from publishers in his case. Not anymore at least.

OTOH, that does suggest that he fits in a separate category from the new, unproven indie developer scrounging to make their first commercial game. I guess the question is, how many people other than Notch will be able to build a strong enough personal reputation to crowdsource major releases, *without* first working in the mainstream industry?

Its kind of annoying how negative some people are being about kickstarter o-o I mean, obviously someone is going to scam/has done scams and obviously its fricking risky to donate to game that with bad luck might not get to made or becomes crappy, but no need to dismiss every single project there tongue

So anyway, was this one real?

Hmm...

Tempus Chronicle's funding seems to have pretty much stopped at half way point. Is this one of those slow points all games get?

Also, police warfar? O_o

And another JRPG style game. I wonder if its done with same engine/rpg maker/whatever as this game. They look pretty similar in game wise.

That Police Warfare thing looks kinda cool, but its goal is absurd.

As for Tempus Chronicle, I'm sorta glad the weekly gamisodes plan for TOTALLY OLD SCHOOL RPG! that somehow would require $200k isn't doing well. There are already plenty of better-looking projects to fun, including RPG's like Echoes of Eternia.

Hmm, yeah, and they never replied to me message about joining Kicking It Forward(and asked about linearity of story) tongue Actually, after their latest update, I think they haven't done anything which is why they don't get funding anymore.

[up][up][up] Yeah, most projects have a lull about the halfway point.

Wouldn't get my hopes up for that one though. Even if it gets a big boost near the end, it probably won't be enough.

I really hope Republique raises enough money. They seem to be going slow but steady but I'm not sure if it will be enough either.

Here's an interesting update from the guys for Star Command, which goes into the costs involved after Kickstarter. Puts me complaining about paying about Wasteland 2's physical edition or The Banner Saga's poster.

Speaking of which, Wasteland 2 ends in 15 hours, in case you forgot or were waiting to see if you had the money.

The Dead Linger looks AWESOME. They've already reached their goal. Not pledging/buying until I see game footage, though.

Yeah, that's another one I'd like to support, but can't because WASTELAND 2 and THE BANNER SAGA and Gravitaz. I'm just happy they're 148% funded, I hope it comes out looking as cool as the idea sounds.

A shame Tortured Hearts isn't doing so well.

Metacell 2 didn't get its funding sad

Still surprised that someone thought(really, it basically got funded by one or two people :P) that Bionite is good enough project to be funded, I mean, it did sound great but game had mainly concept art tongue
