You wanna slap da possible deity...?
Or just go back in time and slap the first old man to do it...

YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.I wanna say Go Nagai, I remember some of his oldest gag manga back in Jump were pretty raunchy and started such tropes.
Gavan, Let's get jiggy!Up until "Super", I didn't put much stock in the Dragon Ball shows. "Dragon Ball" is okay, even though it is inferior to the manga in virtually every way, because it adds some interesting things like a shadow world mirror and man eating gourd. "Dragon Ball Z" is "Dragon Ball" but more drawn out, and fewer interesting developments. I'd watch it if it was on, some of my family and many of my friends really liked it, but it was even more inferior to the manga.
GT is GT. The terrible first twenty three or so episodes of Dragon Ball Super have made me look back on GT slightly less negatively. I have concluded that at some parts in the beginning GT was almost good, but it hits its peak early and only goes down hill from there. The last link in the chain of The Man Behind the Man specifically.
I can tell why the Dragon Ball manga might sell better and or be better regarded than Yu Yu Hakusho's, Bleach's, Naruto's, Hunter X Hunter's or Saint Seiya's(yeah, I realize Seiya isn't in the same vein as Dragon Ball, but it's Dragon Ball's main rival in its home market so I might as well name it). It's a pretty fat trimming work, constantly jumping to the action and or the hijinks, leaving the reader to figure out the rest, much that surprisingly makes a good deal of sense if one stops to think about it, although there is no reason to. What the Dragon Ball television show, much less "Z" has on any of those other shows is beyond me. I can only shudder at the amount of padding they must have to be losing to Z, although it could be that they haven't benefited from a KAI style re cut. I refused to watch Kai, because to me anything less than redoing all the animation was a coup out, but from what little of it I have seen to reach that conclusion I have to admit there is some great voice work.
Speaking strictly manga, well One Piece has surpassed Dragon Ball in its home market, so it clearly isn't insurmountable, even among works that follow a similar structure. So what about the others? Digimon V-Tamer 01 was probably about as good as well, but then it ended and Digimon never put out another manga(or really, anything) as good again(and to be fair, Dragon Ball hasn't done anything better than its first manga either). I guess I could name some other, better(Slam Dunk) or just as good manga(Ranma 1/2, Attack On Titan), but I'm trying to think of something that reads somewhat like Dragon Ball while fitting that category and am drawing a blank. Yu Yu Hakusho comes close I suppose, but it kind of falls off as it goes on. I guess a Dragon Ball fan has no reason not to like Hunter X Hunter.
But maybe the fact Dragon Ball has a more popular manga is why it has a more popular show? Dragon Ball has many movies of various quality, it has several good(and a few bad) video games, it features in popular music, it has floats in parades. It has additional presence the others might not be matching.

That's why he wants you to have the money. Not so you can buy 14 Cadillacs but so you can help build up the wastesDragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Digimon and Pokemon were my gateway anime. During a time when I didnt know what anime was, these shows were airing. There was nothing else like them when they were airing and my friends and I just wanted more. Dragon Ball Z in particular was that one show we all liked. Sailor Moon fell out the fastest while Digimon and Pokemon had an inexplicable split for attention. Dragon Ball Z was that one show we all agreed on. It was the one where we would huddle up in the library to download and print a picture (a massive endeavor back then) of a character so we could trace them and talk about stuff we knew nothing about. "Do you know who Trunks is?" would be followed by a massive on the spot fountain of bullshit that we all ate up. We didn't know Dragon Ball was a thing. It all started with Raditz. Manga were an entirely foreign concept until that brief period where Shonen Jump started showing up at the local Food Lion. I can't say my enjoyment isn't tied to nostalgia. I still enjoy it.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireHey, anyone know how old this is?◊
Not sure, but I've seen similar posters for Goku and Gohan.
Video about why GT was so disappointing as a follow up to Z.

Super Eyepatch Wolf made interesting points regarding why GT fell apart. It's not that the criticisms aren't the same one we've already made, but the angle he approaches them from is new to my ears and makes sense with the evidence he presented from original Dragon Ball.
Broly movie has been completely cam ripped now and is on You Tube. That's my warning.
Lelouch is fabulous. Imma Xehanort on You Tube, Twitter, and Gamefaqs.Pretty Cure is probably my favorite Toei original franchise right now.
I've found it more enjoyable then their other series at points.
Watch SymphogearI'm personally a bigger fan of One Piece, but the sheer amount of padding and/or filler tests my adoration at every turn.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireGod, Eyepatch wolf is just gonna make people double down on their hatred of Super lol.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.He didn't mention or reference Super once in the video.
That doesn't matter; by mentioning how bad GT is, you invite people to do the same about Super.
And you only have to scroll down and notice how nobody is actually talking about his video and it's just a Super vs. GT debate.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Super VS GT debates, especially the youtube ones, are the worst
¡PONLE QUE DIGA!:"¡HUMONGOSAURIO HASTA LA MUERTE!"Well, to talk mainly about the video. I agree with his points, but I do think he kind of overstates Z's good points a bit too much.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I didn't watch the whole video, I kinda not necessarily agree with what he says about Z, like you say he exaggerates them quite a bit
¡PONLE QUE DIGA!:"¡HUMONGOSAURIO HASTA LA MUERTE!"One Piece is not a TOEI original franchise. That said, I didn't know Pretty Cure was...it's been ages since I watched a magical girl show or read a manga of one. Or played a video game or watched a movie...no idea why nothing from the genre has gripped me recently. The maiden trio were pretty cool, but disappointingly under powered for the point of the story they came in.
That's why he wants you to have the money. Not so you can buy 14 Cadillacs but so you can help build up the wastesMy mistake. I heard Super's early episodes and One Piece shared a number of animators and I guess I made an incorrect connection.
EDIT: No. Wait. The wiki does say its Toei.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireSpoilers, but something is weird about this transformation...
Goku transforms from SSG to SSB, but while transforming, his aura turns green for a while, and then for a split second his aura and hair turn white like Ultra Instinct. Something similar happens when Vegeta turns Super Saiyan, as his black hair turns green before becoming yellow.
I wonder what they're trying to imply here...
Gavan, Let's get jiggy! They did say that they wanted to explore the physical effects of transforming in this film through the animation of the transformations themselves, so I doubt whatever this is is meaningless.
I wonder if it's a callback to when Vegeta first saw Kale transform...
Him calling her transformation the "true form of a Saiyan", what if green ki is connected to a Saiyan's S-cells. What if Kale and Broly were able to tap straight into that power to rise up exponentially so fast. With Broly, it seems to be connected to his ability to tap into Oozaru power without the use of a moon (real or artificial). Since no one in Universe 6 are born with tails, I guess Kale must have somehow tapped into some sort of ancient Oozaru gene. And there's still something up with Goku using UI for a split second there too.
There's a lot of implications going on here...
Gavan, Let's get jiggy! You know I just got done talking about manga comparable to Dragon Ball. One Piece was a manga in Shonen Jump two years before TOEI decided to start animating it.
That's why I said One Piece is not a TOEI original franchise, because it's not. If someone told you it is, even if they put it on a wiki, they are lying liars that lie. Maybe I shouldn't double down on that. I mean I let TNA fans get away with calling indie legends "home grown" talent for years, but I did and am sticking to it, so there.
Um, I know. Come up with a new Dragon Ball arc and what animation studio other than TOEI you'd want to animate it.
That's why he wants you to have the money. Not so you can buy 14 Cadillacs but so you can help build up the wastesI hope whatever's going on here is elaborated on further in the future. This seems like a really big lore thing to just be subtly implying like this, and even if your guess is wrong, there's still clearly something going on here that needs explaining.
I doubt it'll come up again, it's probably just a visual thing.
We didn't even get any connection between Kale and Broly despite their similar transformations.
I'd like to slap whoever invented "old men creeping on generations-younger women is funny" in the first place.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."
