My memory of what I'm about to say is really hazy, so take it with a grain of salt—I may well be incorrect about it.
That said, I vaguely remember at the height of the BLM protests, Quantic Dream basically being like (Obviously HEAVILY paraphrased, but this was the sentiment) "HEY are you woke well get our game which is TOTALLY ABOUT this stuff now on discount!!". Yes, I'm talking about Detroit: Become Human here. You know, the game they'd previously tried to insist was One Hundred Percent Not About Modern Politics.
Am I the only one who remembers this? Am I thinking of the right game?
Also I think David Cage once blew up at some interviewer who actually tried to, you know, engage with him on a "Video games are art!" level. He said something like "YOU WOULDN'T ASK THESE TOUGH QUESTIONS IF MY GAMES WERE MOVIES!!" and was shocked when the reply was (paraphrased) "Uh...yes I would, isn't that obvious?"
That Time Warner Bros. Beat Up A Queer Character For Pride (The Jimquisition)
Some of the comments pointed out that we could have played as Poison Ivy for the event and gotten bonuses for winning matches. It would have been so easy for this not to be horrible.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Like I said, remember when they had a gay character in a Mortal Kombat game?
And then in the next he just vanished without a trace or explanation and Sonya's replacement VA said some transphobic shit?
Oh, I get it. Gaming — especially competitive gaming — is a bastion of intolerance of all sorts. These devs know their audience.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"There were so many ways to make this not tone-deaf, from subtle to the overt, but they chose the dumbest.
Yeah, they just went for the standard minimal effort corporate pandering. Put the token into the slot, no further thought required.
They could have done literally nothing outside of slapping a rainbow on their company logo - as companies usually do during Pride Month - and it would have been better.
The bar is pretty low in the first place and they somehow managed to walk through under it with their heads held high.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.Yeah. They probably even could've done the same thing, putting Ivy (and then probably planned Harley for second half of June) into the Challenge mode and it would've flown completely under the radar if they didn't do extra celebratory twitter post.

Everyone says that it's obvious there were no queer people consulted about this, but I wouldn't be shocked if there were queer people voicing concerns internally and they were just ignored. Happens all the time with other areas like QA.
Not sure which is worse, to be honest. To not be involved at all, or to be involved and just tossed aside.
As I've stated before, the version of Injustice 2 the Poison Ivy raid boss was attached to was the mobile version.
Which only makes things worse, because that version has a few more playable LGBTQA+ characters (Arrowverse versions of Batwoman and White Canary in particular). Considering this version of the game is 3v3, players could have easily been given increased or new rewards with play them on their teams. (Like boosting the drop rates for upgrade materials for these characters, or acquiring them in the first place).
Or, considering the game does limited time thematic loot boxes, have one for Pride related characters.
Even if you don't have them already, IJ 2 Mobile has special missions that mandate a particular character, and game gives them to you for said missions.

That probably would have set off JSS even more because loot boxes.
...Loot boxes would have incensed them more then the current mistake?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Naah, that would be more or less business as usual with corporates. Would get a mention in a video maybe, but not be the central focus of one.
This one is extra infuriating because there was a root of a good idea, to give away the queer character for free, but they twisted it into really bad.

Loot boxes are more harmful in a broad sense; this is a targeted offense. Which doesn't make it better, just different.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Havent kept up with their channel but i predict tomorrows video will be about e3.
Possibly a jab at ubisoft
Uni catI didn't catch the E3 stream, what happened with Ubisoft?
Edited by Altris on Jun 13th 2021 at 10:39:35 AM
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrIt's a reference to Ubisoft's numerous ongoing sex abuse scandals which they completely glossed over for the E3 presentation.
No, it's not about E3 today. It's about Why The Five Nights At Freddy's Guy Sucks (The Jimquisition).
Ah, belief systems as excuses for malicious behavior. Humanity at its best.
Oh right the FNAF controvery. I should have considered that lol.
If Jim giveth then Jim will taketh back
Uni catFrankly, if it weren't for the folks defending this guy it wouldn't be such an issue, but to me this is another example of people rallying around the creators of things they enjoy despite those creators being horrible people. See: Ubisoft, Activision, EA, etc.
I've expressed my own personal criticism of things that Jim has said, but in this case they are absolutely right that Scott Cawthon is not a good person and should not be idolized or "simped" for, as I believe the modern vernacular goes.
I think I played about five minutes of FNAF out of curiosity, and that was enough for me. The style of game doesn't particularly appeal. I never developed a personal attachment to the man creating the series.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Oh this i must see on my lunch break.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. My stance on this kind of thing is that i don't really care what media people enjoy; i don't think there's anything wrong with liking FNAF. However, cawthon being shitty is simply something you have to accept regardless and understand why other people would take enough issue to not want to engage with his work or support him, instead of making shitty arguments as to why it's not a big deal.

So from the get go, common sense has been thrown completely out the window.
