Loot Boxes Condemned By The Church Of England
We finally agree about something.
...weird that it would be a condemnation of something about videogames, but hey, take what you can get.

xenoblades X : not 60-100 hours, more like 200 hours.
Yeah, X is big, frighteningly big. And Imma be honest I finished my first playthrough of the game burnt out of it and wanting to never play it again.
And then xenoblade 2 happened, and xenoblade 2 angers me to such a point I ended up being like "Even X wasn't so astoundingly bad !" (it's not actually bad, but it's personnal flaws ticks me off real hard) and over time, I ended up wanting to go back to it. And replaying it...
it's my favorite game of all time. On equal footing with persona 5.
I spent two fucking hundred hours in that second playthough. I have no idea what I'm doing with my life, but I'm loving it !
I don't think you need to replay the game to really appreciate it, game has plenty of strengths on the first playthrough, it's more about the state of mind to approach it IMO.
-Yes, the combat isn't explained well enough to pull of what it tries to do, which is a shame, cause I find it one of my favorite combat systems ever cause not only understanding the combat system lets you get pretty strong regardless of progression, but that in itself is a massive boon because it lets you open up the game a lot more, let you pick fights with ennemies massively stronger than you, explore a lot more, and in return ends up immensely satisfying, while still presenting a challenge. I'd somewhat reccomend to start playing it for like the first four chapters and then ask someone knowledgeable about the game to explain you the combat, because the game drops the ball on the explanation.
-It's really a game you don't go in for the plot. You go into that game for the characters, you go into that game for the suprisingly cool worldbuiling, but you don't go in there for flashy action scenes or strong main plotline. It's a thing where being the sequel of the original xenoblade doesn't help getting in that mindset, cause while it did the worldbuilding and the characters it was a much more well-rounded game on that aspect and also had a strong plotline and cool action scenes.
-Music is hit or miss, and i guess they never hit, huh. As much as I love some tracks, I just find myself modding the game to put persona 5's ost instead and loving every second of it. There's novelty factor at play since I've heard the original ost for days, but some people just hate the music outright so eeeeeeh.
-Character design also seem to be hit or miss ? i know a lot of people hate it or dislike it but I perosnally really dig that.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."On the topic of the Xenoblade series, Videogamedunkey put it best.
I like your attitude!

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Well, now he reminded that while X takes the questionnable approach of duming too many explanations into the completely optionnal virtual manual, it's still better than 2 interrupting you with tutorials you don't get to ever see again once you've read them.
Also that I hate the skell battle theme of X. This one I'm not regretting one bit putting rivers in the desert instead.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Tbf, Skryim with mecha is an attractive proposition.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."I've seen X compared to the Japanese equivalent of Mass Effect and it's fairly apt, as while there is a main plot, the real meat of the game and its writing are all in the worldbuilding and its characters. The gameplay is more complex and less spammy than the original but more fastpaced than 2's.

Xenoblade X really is japanese mass effect 1. And tragically ironically enough, it's also the mass effect that mass effect andromeda tries and fail at being, and a better initial-premise-Anthem than Actual-Anthem, with apprently better flying robots on top of it. That game singlehandedly invalidates bioware for the last few years and It's a mixture of amazing and and sad.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Anthem Abandons Its Roadmap Because Of Course It Does
That game still exists? Fuckin'ell...
Oh my God the game is such a fucking disaster.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Anthem? More like Dirge!
There. I fixed it.
We missed this one: Loot Boxes Condemned by the Church of England. Not that I have any love for religious groups, but if the goddamn church tells you you're doing something evil...

That was for the Anthem thing, not the church thing.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? It's posted on this page already. But yeah, it's funny.
Then again, this a church, so it's more stopped clocks being right twice a day.
Oh, whoops. The thread moves faster than I realized. Sorry!
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"me : "xenoblade X invalidates andromeda AND anthem despite predating them and not even trying"
anthem literally a day later : Aight bro i'm about to head out removes road map.
Weird flex, but okay, I guess ?

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Are people finally getting wise to the AAA live-service bullshit, or is this just because Anthem is unusually crappy even for that category? I wouldn't know; the game held as much appeal for me as a dead prawn in a sock.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Well how are other AAA live-service games doing?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The latter, I assume. It doesn't really help that the concept of the game had a lukewarm reception from the beginning. A game like Anthem just isn't what Bioware fans want, and the game itself largely being considered mediocre on its own merits only made that sting more.
Why not both?
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.
Good grief yeah. If I was young and had spare time, stamina, and not enough money to just buy other games, the concept of replaying 100+ hour rpgs would be something I could get into. Nowadays I'm going to give 50+ hour games probably one shot, and if I don't have fun, I ain't coming back.
Like, I love Hollow Knight - but I am making damn sure I'm completing the game as thoroughly as I can and see all the content because I seriously doubt I'll be investing that much time into a second playthrough (although it will no doubt go by quicker the second time around).
