Edit Post and Post History in article Discussions

There are two problems with the article discussion, and they can team up to create quite a mess.

  1. You can edit other people's posts. This makes vandalism incredibly easy.
  2. Although there is a history button on posts, it doesn't actually work. Invariably it takes you to a screen saying, "No changes," even if it's your own post.

The mess? Vandalized posts that can't be reverted to their original content without a really good memory.

Something needs to be done about this, and fast. What is that something? Fixing the history button? The removal of the edit post button on other user's posts? I'd think the latter, as the words of other tropers should not be twisted by their own non-mod brethren. Troll posts can just be removed by mods anyway, so ordinary users already don't need to worry about deleting them themselves, just reporting them. The edit post button on the query is gone, so it should probably be gone on article discussions too.

Given that our discussion pages are essentially a forum thread/response system (not freely editable wikipages a la Wikimedia), its access controls need to mirror the actual forums.

[up] If you mean it should be just like the forum, then I disagree with that. The topic system works like a dream. It's the bug I'm worried about.

Bump. I'd like to see some clarification here.

Whee bumping again. If the edit post button on other people's posts is removed, then should a holler button be added, or should we just keep reports to Ask The Tropers?

I also noticed that you can edit other peoples comments on reviews. Ooh, maybe a holler/flag button would be nice for comments as well as reviews… though I don't know if the flag button already encompasses both of those.

I think the flag encompasses them.

About discussion pages, I think that fixing the history bug is the main fix to do. Preventing editing could make copypaste actions unnecessarily difficult.

[up] Or the edit button can just be replaced with "view source" button when it comes to other people's posts? Like all those Locked Pages have "source" so someone can still copy-paste the wikicode, but not make changes to the actual page, I mean.

I think that if we can fix the post history, there won't be any need to change the edit thing.

One thing, Is Father from Codename Kids Next Door a Complete Monster? There are a few things that probably qualify him for one. 1. He mind raped Sector Z and turned them into the Delightful Children. 2. He tried to bake a bunch of innocent kids into a cake. 3. He tried to kill his own nephew after he stole his pipe. 4. The villains wiki said he was one.

I'm sorry TV Tropes I was just playing a little prank because sometimes I feel bored.

Is the history bug still active?
