All I've learned about SO 5 has just made me want to replay SO 4. I still might play SO 5 but...not a priority. It's everything I feared it would be.

I think it's from the people who were mad at censorship. Back on page 10 we were worried about that.

I realize this is extremely selfish and petty of me but if this game bombs and people look back a bit more fairly at SO 4, I'll be happy.

I still will try it... eventually.

Apparently the game has next to no original soundtrack, it mostly uses tracks from the previous Star Ocean games.

It's 4 discs. There has to be something new.

What's the story like?

Ironically, all the negativity about SO 5 has made me want to not only replay SO 4, but look into the PSP remakes of 1 and 2. Been meaning to do that forever but I needed to buy a PSP and I just couldn't justify the purchase for two games.

There are a couple other games for it I want, though.... Hopefully next month maybe. I gotta play it on my TV though, no way I can see that tiny little screen. I hope it feels like I'm just using a PS controller.

So this character is 18 right? Technically speaking she is an adult, if just barely, so the whole sexualization of minors thing doesn't really apply here, which would have been my main point about the situation.

All the same it's such a minor change I don't understand why there's such a fuss about it.

There are plenty of japanese games where you do just that. Pot calling the kettle black much? It's like these people have no sense of perspective whatsoever.

But seriously, Japan is pretty cool about fictionalized sex and stuff, much more-so than America. So they are cool with both violence and sex, while Americans tend to be more okay with just violence. Sex is...weird in America. It's like we say it's bad but that just makes it more irresistible.

Also, if you're considering getting any of these games, I would eitehr reconsider or make sure you go into it with the right mindset of just enjoying the gameplay. Because from what I've read of your posts, Star Ocean is everything you don't like about JRPG's.

Not really actually. In Japan they have a flat out 'Z' CERO rating aka an Adults Only rating for games like GTA and God Of War, before that companies were being forced to make blood green and such as violence became more realistic.

The Last Of Us and straight up porn carry the same classification.

Oh trust me, I'm well aware of the reputation of the series and what the stories are like. I do plan on playing the games eventually mostly for the music and gameplay which are always great in tri-ace games.

Ya know, the more I think on it, the more I'm tempted to buy this game, maybe even the Collector's Edition. Thing is, even if this game is total garbage, I really respect SE or tri-Ace or whoever for getting their shit together. I've paid no attention to this game up until a few days ago but I have still heard a lot about it the passed several months. They've done a really good job of creating awareness, marketing and that kind of thing. If this game bombs, it will not be due to lack of advertisement. They've done about all they can to hype it up. I even heard they had a simultaneous localization done for it, like Nie R. Dunno if that's true or not but it be cool.

I wonder who's localization it anyway. 8-4 did the last game.

I didn't know the new MC has the same English voice as Faize fro m the last game. That's pretty awesome. I thought he was one of the best performances in SO 4.

I have to agree with the poster and comments about the older art style being better. The new art has Generic Cuteness up to wazoo. Rena looked closer to 12 than 17.

I'd like a refresher for the Star Ocean The Second Story. Is spellcasters rather underpowered here? Considering the amount of damage physical fighters can dish out in seconds compared to how spellcasters are hit with the damage limit of 9999 and some (Ravenous Fiend/Gremlin Lair) are just dependent on enemy position?

And I'm still wondering which one is a better spellcaster if we want a comparison between Celine and Leon...
