The Minions Of Evil

Celestial gods that 'serve' the God of Evil (supposedly- they actually do their own thing, but try telling Evil that) Note that all of their forms are ‘default’ ones; like all celestials they have no real form or gender. Also they have plenty of minions of their own.

(Yes, I created all of these after reading the TV tropes page on the Seven Sins. It’s True! Tv Tropes Will Enhance Your Life! :D)

  • Superbia, god of pride- appears as a purple centaur, armed with a magic cudgel (to beat people over the head with its superiority.)
  • Avaritia, god of avarice- appears as a gold-skinned humanoid toad. Special power: spits molten gold.
  • Luxuri, god of lust: appears as a blue-skinned succubus. Attacks with the (literal) flames of passion.
  • Invidia, god of envy: typical demonic look (eg, satyr-like) with a green body (especially the eyes.) Special power: freezes things with its stare.
  • Gula, god of gluttony: appears as an orange-skinned, fat Orc. Power: spits vermin.
  • Ira, god of wrath: appears as a red minotaur. No weapons- uses its berserker strength instead.
  • Acedia, god of sloth- appears as fat faun with light blue skin. Attack: summons snakes to fight for him. Never fights on its own (too much trouble.)

(And yes, I decided to just use Latin for names. And maybe Greek too. evil grin)

I've never really liked the idea of those seven attributives being automatically evil. :c *

Having a God of Wrath and a God of hot vengeance would be redundant, so if you go that route, keep that in mind.

Agreed. Greed is just another word for ambition, lust isn't a bad thing, a little pride is healthy. Only thing that is inherently negative is sloth.

Sloth isn't negative. It's trying to put the minimum effort towards achieving the same goal. That's called efficiency!

Then again, no villain ever wants to consider itself a villain, and people don't generally worship "evil" gods except out of fear. I've always had "evil" deities be "wholly" justified in their dogma.

I think we should have gods of evil, but too them evil is good and good is evil. Right down to the words meaning just that too them.

Plus a god of evil pride (hubris) is a bit too ironic to be taken seriously.

Also how do centaurs even work with our whole humans are hybrid of everything?

I can't state my objection to "to them, evil is good, and good is evil" enough. It's easy to say, but I don't think anyone really comprehends the idea.

Actually, my idea is that most celestials are morally grey beings. The only ones who are truly evil (or good for that matter) are so because it would be part of their attributes; Good and Evil definitely. I'm just toying around with the idea of using the Seven Sins as gods, Minions of Evil is just a placeholder name.

And as we were discussing before, revenge and anger are not necessarily the same thing.

[up]Re centaurs... good question.

But Gods have to be worshipped. So, you have to think, "what would the dogma for a cult of murder be?"

"Evil" gods can either be

A.) Rationalized (sometimes in a fashion better than others)

or

B.) Self indulging.

But just calling them evil and having everyone accept it is kind of ... I don't know, it just feels off. But maybe that's just me.

Of course, you can have gods that aren't "evil" in terms of being evil per say, but they're authorities.

As a thought on Centaurs maybe they were created as part-horse part sylvan instead.

Or maybe that thing is the only centaur, because it likes to look unique.

This is going to sound immensely odd, but. . . Let's talk fashion. What do the denizens of these various countries wear on average?

It would depend on the cities and states just like our cultures. So the question is where do we start.

Fashion in the past tended to gravitate towards one direction in a given country.

Also, someone needs to make a map. Not me, I can't draw for shit.

True but at the same time our cultures seem to be in an age of exploration, plus with all the clashing and merging of ideas we could have a variety of different fashions within a single area.

It be better to figure out which classes and types of people populate which cities and states and in which density and then determine fashion from there.

Fashion is vests and tunics! There is nothing sexier than a vest or a tunic! Nothing!

Clothes should be utilitarian: heavy clothing for cold climates, light ones for warmer ones. Also availability of materials; silks and such should be rare and found on more civilized lands, more primitive ones use leather. Colors and design would reflect cultural symbols and tastes.

As for the map, the only thing I'm picturing is that the Old Lands are a bunch of smaller islands or island-continents (ala Australia or Greenland.) Most likely each is dominated by a type of humanoid, with a central one for intermingling, dominated by humans.

I have an idea of a swordsmanship school and magically weapon that would have in force certain dress code in it's practitioners so I think I'll post that later tonight, as a fashion related article.

How about this: the Old Lands are huge archipelago, ala the Polynesian islands. Except it coils on itself, like a galaxy. The larger island-nations would be in the center. again, each major island is ruled by a race, except the center one which is neutral territory.

We could call it "The Broken Continent".

The God's Edge

The God's Edge, is an oddly shaped blade it's thinner most blades and has an slight curvature to it. It goes by many names but God's edge seems to be the most appropriate one, due to it's abilities. The God's Edge is magical artifact that has many effect to it, the main one however is where it draws it's name. The weapons edge is so sharp that in the right hands, it as been known to by pass any barrier even the magical, the only thing stopping it from passing throw the earth if dropped is it's hilt and it's wielder. That brings us too the other quality the wielder must be willing to sacrifice security for it's use. they must wear no armor, and bear no shield, and also have no other magical device in their possession as well. In fact if more than 25% of their body is covered by any type of clothing the blade becomes dull and useless in their hands. Some theorize that the blade may have been made by trickster God or perhaps a God of exchange, perhaps even the God of the forge had too much nectar one night, either way no God claims to be responsible for it.

The blade has one final effect as well, when the blade is put in the path of a magical spell the spell is automatically cleaved in half if it comes within five feet of the blade's tip, Cause spells like fire ball and lighting bolts to be split around the wielder.

Due to the blade's odd nature not many people were able to properly wield it and for a good while it was even traded among nobles as a show piece until Hyathern got her hands onto it.

Hyathern and the school of the God's edge *

.

Hyathern was a human noble who was traveling who found herself stranded in the desert of the southern circle. She and a few guards had been transporting the blade for her father, she knew nothing of swordsmanship but all her guards having died in the unnamed incident, she took up the blade anyways.

The locals were human but much more primitive than most humans having cut themselves off favoring a more natural life style, they chose the southern circle due to it be surrounded by high mountains few ever trespassed it, Hyathern herself would not have trespassed it herself but her father had insisted upon that path as his rivals were less likely to try and follow it.

These locals took her in and taught her their ways and their culture, Hyathern at first just was learning the culture and language in order to ask them how to leave but as she began to work with the more and learn more she found she liked the idea of an a honest days work and a good hunt far more than she liked the idea of noble gossip.

One day while hunting she was forced to use The God's Edge after her hunting pole was knocked from her hands by a razor bear, she pulled it out in desperation and cleaved the beast in half. At this moment she remembered the legends of the blade and realized that the lower amounts of clothing worn in the desert due to heat allowed her to utilize the blade. *

Soon tales of her became to spread between the desert tribes and she came to take students on, combining what she knew of the locals 360% fighting style with that of the blade. She later left the tribe she called home with a few students to travel the deserts in search of challenge after several years and several more students they came to a clearing made of stone with several caves beneath it.

Here she built her monastery, out of the stone. It was built in a circular shape from the stone, and had a large fifty foot tower built facing north over the desert. The monastery stood undisturbed until a barbarian army came rampaging through the deserts. When they came to the monastery they were faced alone by Hyathern, who did not want her students to fight unless she fell.

The odds were against here 100+ to one, she fought long and hard for several hours before falling to the leader himself and only due to exhaustion and a Zerg Rush of blade to quick for her to block. But the damage done was awe inspiring, the barbarian army stood at only 37 members remaining the desert to the east was nothing but red.

When her students came rushing from the building the leader knew to fight further would mean certain defeat, even if only twenty of her students were present. When a student came up to fight him he layed his weapon by her side and simply asked the name of her style. The student picked up the sword and simple said Hyathern, and that was the name he spread across the country side when another claimed to be foolhardy enough to try and take the southern circle for their own, soon warriors of all kinda began to travel to the southern circle to learn the Hyathernian art of swordsmanship.

That was 200 years ago, many warriors these days have taken on aspects of the Hyathernian ways into their own ways even if they never study to style. It's not uncommon for a warrior to wear a strip of dark brown leather across their upper chest as a tribute to Hyathern or a belt and loin cloth combo both which were popularized by the Hyathernian art. Many warriors who settle down will were these items under their day to day garments as symbols of their warrior hearts.

As for the sword itself, it is currently being held by the Hyathernian art's fifth grand master and 2nd male grand master, Tern Hyathern who has traveled back into civilized lands to learn what the first grand master's life was like before she came to live there.

I've actually wantted to post this for a while I just couldn't find the right time, but since we brought up fashion I figure now would be the best time.

EDIT: ... Wow that was longer than I thought it was.
