More info about Resurrected is available.

  • Graphics are toggleable between classic and Resurrected at any time.
  • Aside from the graphical overhaul, spell and AI aggro ranges are tweaked to compensate for the larger screen resolution.
  • The cinematics are getting re-made in CGI from scratch while keeping the original audio.
  • Colorblind mode for handicapped players.
  • Five additional languages.
  • Blizzard is still working on the control scheme for the console versions, but the PC will have controller support as well.
  • Cross-play is implemented via the Bnet client: PC progress is backed up online and can be restored on any console that has the Bnet client installed.
  • Items can now be transferred between your characters via a shared second tab on the stash screen to make muling easier. Ladder characters can't transfer to non-ladder and vice versa, nor can offline characters transfer items to online ones.
  • Gold is now automatically looted.
  • Holding down Shift while mousing over an item in your inventory displays the stats of your currently equipped item for comparison purposes.
  • The character stat screen has a secondary display for summarizing all your item-granted bonuses so that you no longer have to sum it up manually in the inventory.
  • Multiplayer is no longer region-locked and you can now run private dedicated servers.
  • While limited modding is available, botting and duping are no longer allowed and will be policed on the servers.
  • Ladder is separate between original and Resurrected, but the ladder leaderboard is common.

And most of all, no existing content will be altered or dropped. All the existing online information on sites like Arreat Summit will remain applicable and even some speedrunning and Mephisto-cheesing exploits are left in on purpose.

They're basically going "This won't be like Reforged, promise!"

Reforged is still such a huge shame. They could have made something really great out of it but instead they went with quarter-measures.

[up][up] And after the Reforged fiasco, can you blame 'em? As excited as I am for the prospect of a re-mastered D2, I'm not going into "Take my money now, Blizzard!" mode until I see enough proof that it isn't another Reforged. I didn't play D2 back in the day, but the friend who got me (and, for that matter, my usual duo partner) into D3 did, and his reaction was the same: "Hurray, but please don't be another Reforged." (He also played a lot of original edition WC3 and was one of the many who felt let down by the botch job that is Reforged.)

Which, honestly, seems to be everyone's reaction to this news. (Assuming their reaction isn't "Diablo? Never heard of it.")

I still think that Reforged's problem stem from Blizz having to make emergency work on Diablo IV so they pulled manpower from Reforged and caused delays and cancelation of features.

If I recall correctly, Reforged also broke some of the original Warcraft 3's features, which understandably pissed off even more people.

I was kinda hoping they'd add a respec mechanic somehow, because it's fun to try new builds with new loot but eh.

I think the Rogue leader in the first chapter lets you respec.

Although I don't know if it's just once or if you always can respec with her.

Wiki says it's once per difficulty level, once you're completed the quest for the appropriate difficulty level.

I still find it funny how completely out of left field Duriel is as well.

All of Act II builds up Baal as the potential boss due to his imprisonment in Tal Rasha - then you finally get to the tomb and suddenly "LOOKING FOR BAAL?!"

Since news of this game being remade has gotten me thinking about it again, I've been rewatching the cinematics from it. I gotta admit, the opening of Lord of Destruction still gives me chills.

Something about the way Baal shouts "Enough!" and the way it echoes throughout the mountains...

My favourite Diablo 2 cinematic would have to be the Tomb of Tal Rasha.

The creepiness of the bound Tal Rasha / Baal

Tyrael vs the Dark Wanderer.

Tyrael:"Stop! The beast contained herein shall not be set free, not even by you!"

Marius freeing Baal

"Fool! You have just ensured the doom of this world. You cannot even begin to imagine what you’ve set in motion this day. Go to the Temple of Light, in the eastern city of Kurast. There, you will find the gate to Hell opened before you. You must find the courage to step through that gate, Marius. Take the stone you hold to the Hellforge, where it will be destroyed. Now run! Take the stone and run!"

And the ending where Baal's tendrils grab Tyrael and his sword falls.

Still gives me chills watching the whole thing.

Diablo II had some of the best cinematics of Blizzard games. Though the original Starcraft's cinematics weren't too shabby either. "Battle on the Amerigo" and the opening of Brood War were particularly cool.

Battle on the Amerigo:

Brood War opening:

Dammit, Blizzard, you used to be cool.

[up]Actually, the Marine in the "Battle on the Amerigo" cinematic is smoking a cigarette. The unlucky Marine who gets torn apart by a Zergling then burned alive by a Firebat in the opening seconds of the Brood War intro also has a cigarette tucked behind his ear.

It's the fancy pants Vice Admiral Stukov chilling in the Battlecruiser's luxurious ready room who smokes cigars.

One thing I liked about the Brood War intro is that the soundtrack is actually in-universe music. The rock music in the beginning is blaring through the headphones of that one Marine who has just given up. The music in the latter half of the intro is apparently something playing in the Alexander's ready room.

...Damn was the art direction in Blizzard game cinematics good back in those times.

Ooh, nice.

I'm kind of sad that the cinematics of Diablo 2 are just getting a glow-up instead of being redone in modern Blur, but they still look really good regardless.

[up]x4. It kinda make sense cause most marine are convict. Cigar is one of the more common currency in prison.
