The problem with Saber class servants is that many of them are very similar. I would like to see a more exotic one like an aztec saber.
Read all of my fanfics!I actually said Mullan was similar because of all the 'pretend to be a man' thing. But, yeah, the saber class are all kinda similar. Mostly because Arturia is the one in both the most important wars, I guess. It would be nice to see a non swordsmen saber, for once. An ax, maybe.
Things that Nasu will never include: A Saber who doesn't use a sword.
A lot of heroes use swords anyway. Legendary axes? Never heard of one.
While Scathach would be an incredible Servant I don't know if she would be able to become one. Nasu talked about her and she became a concept after turning too awesome to die.
All that matters is if she's dead or not. If Gilgamesh and Hercules aren't too divine to count, she shouldn't be either. Then again, I have no idea if she actually died or not. If she's not dead...
Besides, the idea of a Servant that's even more Tohsaka than Tohsaka is so awesome that it has to be possible.
Indeed I would really like to see that. Though still that whole is alive or not deal murks things up just like it does with Merlin.
-Imagines Merlin appearing in the background somewhere in Fate Zero as a cheery old man in clothes even more stylish than Gilgamesh's, wearing sunglasses and going around with a pretty woman in each arm-
If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.I like idea of caster with Gáe Bolg.

I hear that she's not more Tohsaka, but a scarier version. Meaning to say, a scary tsundere.
why am I reminded of Senjougahara
Great, now I am imagining Cu all nervous with the tip of Gae Bolg hovering threateningly inside his mouth as Scathach emasculates him.
If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything. What the game considers scary Tohsaka I consider hilarious Tohsaka. So an even trollier Tohsaka would thus be Scathach.
Maybe Merlin and Scathach are dating off in their own pocket dimension or something.
Hey, for those who were complaning about the lack of blood, apparently the manga more then make up for it(Sankaku link, NSFW).
I didn't even know there was a manga, although it is hardly a surprise (is anyone translating it yet?).
Bit late here, but Waver's character was established in F/HA, via supplementary material at minimum if not in the game itself outright (I haven't played F/HA at all so I'm not sure here). I believe he was also explicitly named as Rider's master in the fourth Grail war within the supplemantary stuff, so that made four Masters and three Servants locked in, all explicitly male except for Saber. Although Gen did manage to sorta cheat with Hassan.
It is a matter of when the supplementary material was written, isn't it? As I said, even though Fate Zero was first published in 2006, it started to be developed in 2004, according to the first volume postface. And by winter of the same year, the first draft was already complete. In fact, the postface clearly says said draft was finished before Fate Hollow Ataraxia have been complete.
So, yeah, I am pretty sure Waver was created for Fate Zero. If he is mentioned in F/HA, it is clearly because the writer of both works were communicating.
PS:Here the postface, if you are wondering.

That Fate/Zero manga looks absolutely delightful! It's like a big bundle of mass-murdering cheeriness.
I wonder if there's any Fate fanfic out there that uses just the mechanics of the Grail War? Maybe using the same Masters, but with completely different Servants or something.
I'm trying to write one. I have all the Servants and Masters down, but that's it.
There's also Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/strange Fake.
MAL || vndb || BlogFake sound like somethink that Gen Urobuchi wouldn't write for it is too dark atmosphere
Hmm... yeah, this is going to be impossible to date. I can't even find exactly what supplementary material exactly the Waver info came from, and even if I could I'm not sure how helpful it would be. Publication dates are really irrelevant here, it's when they were conceived that matters.
Though regardless of the extent that Waver was a pre-established character, I don't think Nasu and Gen would have seriously considered giving Alexander a female master. Doing the Rider/Waver character dynamic with a female master would've seriously risked Rider being perceived as a misogynist when he completely dominates his master and practically inverts the master/servant relationship. That's not going to help perceptions of female agency in the story a whole lot.
Also, on a sorta-related tangent, Perseus was actually the original choice for Rider in FSN - he certainly would've been a more intuitive Pegasus rider. They decided there wasn't enough female servants though, so they decided to make Rider a woman and Medusa was the best fit they could find for a female pegasus rider. We should see him in the 12 minute Fate/Prototype video, which is going to be just as much a sausage-fest on the servant side, albeit with far more female masters.
Yeah, I agree that while Medusa is a viable Servant choice, the particular interpretation of Medusa they used in F/SN was so far off it couldn't see the original with a telescope on a clear sunny day.
And I came across the Fate/Zero manga a while ago, but thought the artwork could use a bit of improvement.
Fate/ strange fake is written by Narita?! Holy crap this thing must be awesome.
It also sounds pretty messed up (in a good way).
This Grail war isn't even off the rails, There's no fucking track!!!
Plus, Gilgamesh.
One Strip! One Strip! There is an ova out for Fate/Prototype basically the original version of Fate where Saber was actually male before Nasu changed it. The version I saw was translated pretty horribly so I'd suggest waiting a little longer.
A love that crushes like a mace.
Uh? I sincerely thought these things were decided after his creation. By Gen. Are you sure it wasn't the case? I don't think he was mentioned at all in Fate Stay Night. Fate Zero began to be developed 2004, the same year Fate Stay Night was released. So, no, I do not think he was an existing character of Nasuverse. I believe he was created for Fate Zero and grown from it.
That too. Even if "Velvet Waver" was an existing character, it doesn't mean he was a Fate Zero character. Not like Kiritsugu, Iris, the Kotomines and Tokiomi.
I would dig in a Mulan servant, there is too few Eastern servants. I afraid she may be somewhat too similar to Saber, in a way.
Playing the genderbending card to historical female heroes would be a nice twist as well.
