Yeah...I don’t get Nicki Minaj. Despite being a pretty trailblazing artist, her discography and persona has really been less than stellar. I want to believe she’s the Queen of Rap but sometimes it seems like she has that title simply by default.

I disagree with Todd regarding her “needing 6x9”. She doesn’t. She’s Nicki Minaj. She’s done collabs with Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Madonna, Drake (who she apparently doesn’t associate with anymore), Rihanna, and plenty of other huge artists. She’s simply choosing to work with someone like 6x9, which is pretty ridiculous. I’m surprised Todd didn’t mention that Nicki’s affiliation with 6x9 nearly got her killed.

It's been years since I've been as angered by an artist's mere existence. Sure, there are other artists that have I've strongly disliked or annoyed, but nobody apart from 6ix9ine has given me such a visceral negative gut reaction.

Obviously whatever he does is working.

By the way, is he considered black? Because if he's not, those n-words he seems to drop in his songs would be the icing on the cake…

Also, I'm pretty it's the first time Todd hasn't even bothered playing the song on piano.

He did try to refuse to play "Sexy And I Know It" back in the day. I can't remember if he ever gave in. Or if he played the loop during the Worst Song countdown; he absolutely did sing it angrily at one point.

I wasn't entirely sure what the big deal was around Takeshi (I refuse to remember how the stupid second half of his stupid name is spelled), but now I know. And Knowing Is Half the Battle. But seriously, what a despicable human being.

What the hell happened to Nicki? I think she's great at music, but the the more I learn about her and who she associates with, the more disappointed I get. sad

Her ex was a sex offender and Takeshi is a sex offender. This doesn't gel with how I thought she was trying to be kinda feminist.

Her current partner is a convicted sex offender who had relations with minors, not to mention she also went to vouch for her brother... who is also a convicted sex offender who had relations with minors.

...Noticing a pattern here.

By the way, is he considered black? Because if he's not, those n-words he seems to drop in his songs would be the icing on the cake…

To be marginally fair to Tekashi, this isn't the only case of a non-black Latino rapper dropping the n-word so casually. Lil' Pump for instant also dropped a bunch of n-bombs in "I Love It" despite not being black.

It's a problem with non black rappers overall, not just Tekashi.

One of my problems with Nicki has always been that she wanted to be seen as feminist despite constantly engaging in questionable and outright misogynistic behavior.

I think it was waaaaay back in this thread actually, where I brought up how Nicki and Megan Trainer were both self identifying as feminists in the 2015-16 years, despite releasing straight up woman-hating lyrics, with Nicki's song "Hey Mama" being one of the most misogynistic things released at the time.

"Yes I do the cooking, yes I do the cleaning, yes he be the boss and yes I be respecting whatever that you tell me." She's a feminists only when she wants to brag about being one, but will repeatedly degrade herself to make a buck and then stick up for actual child rapists.

Editing to add the song in question and also to add that when I've brought this song up before elsewhere, one of the responses was that "it's not Nicki's song." And I think my response to that is similar to Deuteragonist's comment up there. Nicki chooses her projects; she doesn't need David Guetta and his bad lyrics, she doesn't need Six-nine, a child molester. But she chooses that shit anyway.

She's always had this problem of claiming to be things for clout and attention. Early on in her career she claimed to be Bisexual, and then in 2016 announced that she said that for clout and in "Say So" even referenced it with the line "I used to be bi, but now I'm hetero"

I've liked a lot of Nicki Minaj songs, but there's no denying that she is an attention seeking clout chaser who claims things she isn't for positive press and as protection from criticism and then goes defends sex offenders and says some extremely misogynistic and bigoted shit

That video hilariously highlights Minaj's tendency of not bothering to appear live in the music videos of other artists, as she just stands around as a literal hologram.

But yeah

Tekashi needs Nicki Minaj waaaaaaaay more than Nicki needs him. She's gotten to that point where she's sort of transcended needing radiohits to be successful and popular, like Lady Gaga or Beyonce. Hell there's even a name for her fanbase stans akin to what Beyonce and Gaga have for theirs (Barbz)

It's probably the reason why both of the radio hits that had any real traction were his duets with Nicki Minaj. The ride-or-die sections of her fanbase will just eat up anything she's on. Add that to the crowd of teenage suburban 4channer edgelords

And yet she still decides to willingly associate herself with this foul human being. Even to the point of respecting him enough to actually physically appear in his videos when she has green-screened previous guest spots before.

(I also kind of feel like she's starting to lean in to her bad reputation the same way Tekashi runs with his. There are a decent amount of people out there who will just want to root for the awful troll BECAUSE they're unrepentantly awful and shitty to people and brag about getting away with it.)

"Hey Mama" is very baffling to me because what she says does not match at all the way she says it. Like, everything in her posture and tone screams "I’m the boss and I don’t care about your opinion", but the lyrics are… the opposite of that.

That’s why many (including Todd himself if I recall) see those lyrics as sarcastic.

I was listening to this Ray Parker song, You Can't Change That, which I liked for its sound for a long time. Then I listened to the lyrics, and it suddenly struck me: this is a song about stalking someone. Talk about Lyrical Dissonance.

Which makes me think Todd should maybe do a segment on that sort of song. There are loads of them.
