I am still deeply, deeply perplexed that that deep voice is coming out of that scrawny blonde boy.
Hah! did you ever see a video of that guy who sings the original House of the Rising Sun?
Read my stories!...no why.
Also, first time I saw Rick Astley I was VERY perplexed that he was a scrawny 20 something ginger. Did not compute.
On a completely opposite side of the spectrum, I thought Nick Gilder (of Hot Child in the City fame) was a girl unti I saw a picture of him.
I'd always assumed that was recorded by a country or folk act. You know like a Johnny cash type were even in their early 20s that had signs of hard living.
Ok wait what.
Are we really getting all surprised about Vocal Dissonance now that long after an episode of Creedence Clearwater Revival?
What does that have to do with Todd???
HE'S DOING IT GUYS. HE'S GONE AND DONE IT!
Edit: having watched this, this is a weird inversion of Jewel/Styx/Hammer where instead of selling out to popular genres/styles he tried to be ahead of the curve in a career where he was already selling out (being MTV's beloved "idol" after all)

Nirvana killing careers comes up almost as often as Japan in these videos.
What's funny is that I was setting up to play the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer music over Todd's discussion for the song, only for him to actually play it in the video proper.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...I wonder if he'll cover Vanilla Ice's Mind Blowin here. He's said he's always wanted to talk about him, but he cant put him on OHW as he had more than one hit, but Mind Blowin was a comeback album that failed hard and would fit this show.
One OHW I still want to see is 99 Luftballoons. Someone with money, please request it?
Nena is NOT a one hit wonder!
Optimism is a duty. They're as much a one-hit wonder as Butthole Surfers, Midnight Oil and Falco :P
In America, maybe. They seem to be doing fine in Europe.
It's one of those US-centric ideas again of what makes a "one hit wonder".
Optimism is a duty.I mean, I'm European - from a country bordering with Germany, even! - and I'm struggling to remember any other Nena song aside from "99 Luftballonen." (I'm going with the original German version rather than the one in English, since Nena is one of those bands who sound better in their native language. Kind of like Tatu, another candidate for OHW, despite the fact that they have quite a few hits in Europe.)
Just a person. He/him.If we're going by the whole "huge overseas, but a one hit wonder in the US" category, then Slade would definitely qualify.
inb4 Redmess complaining about 'US-centric ideas of what makes a one-hit wonder':
Also leaving this tweet from him 10 days ago here

That entire series of tweets, really.
Surprised at the verdit. Still, Deserved Better is Deserved Better.
I guess S Club 7 is the closest thing to a Hendrix Clause he's reviewed aside from Butthole Surffers and maybe Midnight Oil.

Found it weird that he put Cliff Richard with Blur, Take That and T-Rex as British Hendrix clauses given that he's gotten at least eight Top 40 Hot 100 hits, of which 3 are Top 10 hits!
EDIT: from the YT comments:
holy shit

... "and I watched all of it!"
Todd this is why you're going insane
Also, I remember him saying that Alien Ant Farm was the least interesting band he's covered, but now I think these guys are even less interesting.
