I agree that it's a top-level supertrope, as well as an index. The index needs some work, though. If it's going to be useful as an index, it should contain all of the character- or characterization-specific-costume tropes.

What are it's sub tropes? I just see stuff like "this character will wear X", which is not really a trope itself.

Maid of Win
In the interest of clearing up some of the backlog, what exactly is the problem with this? The trope is "characters wear certain costume traits to portray a characteristic or profession." Below it is a list of examples with their own pages and examples without their own pages. It's describing the trope, then serving as an index.
