Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

Valhalla is the heaven analogue, I think. Asgard is where the gods live, which is legally distinct from paradise in several belief systems.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersNow that I remember, Thor 4 does end with Jane going to Valhalla and being welcomed by Heimdall at the gates
So Valhalla does exist
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."There's also the ancestral plane in the Black Panther movies.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIts cool that they both got in
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThey do fit the requirements there, both Jane and Heimdall having died nobly in battle performing a heroic sacrifice
Valhalla awaits all glorious warriors heh

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Huh. Wonder if Jane runs into Tony there, just as confused as she is
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMan, where is Tony's afterlife anyway?
He doesn't believe in Norse Gods.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Though in Jane's case, she had also developed a strong connection to Asgard's culture.
If Tony didn't have religion, then he most likely just ended up chilling in the Astral Dimension (introduced in Doctor Strange). Not the most exciting afterlife, but Tony probably doesn't mind peace and quiet by that point.
Disgusted, but not surprisedCaptain America 4 has had a change of title
It's now Captain America: Brave New World
Huh. Weird. Echoes of WW 1984. Hopefully it will be better than that.
That's a better title. It's probably for the best that they don't plaster posters and ads everywhere with a phrase co-opted by conspiracy nut jobs.
Eh, I kinda like the other title better. Brave New World sounds like the name of some cheesy pop song or something.
Though if the old title was co-opted by crappy people, then I guess it's good to change it.
Trust no one.Reminds me of a book and a saying
Forever liveblogging the Avengers> Huh. Wonder if Jane runs into Tony there, just as confused as she is
he's..some place else
possibly in a different afterlife, some kind of heaven but also some kind of Hell
New theme music also a boxWelcome to the Medium Place, Tony
Forever liveblogging the AvengersNew World Order has been a thing in conspiracy circles for decades, so I can't imagine they didn't know exactly what they were doing with the original title.
Nevertheless, if they feel the old title doesn't match the movie as it got further along in development, or they ultimately decided that maybe it wasn't a good idea in the first place to make a movie title evocative of a real-life conspiracy theory (even if the actual content in no way endorses such theories), then it makes sense to change it.
Captain America: Mountains Is Trees
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIs that a real conspiracy because wow what a bleak worldview
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSadly, yes.
Trust no one.To be fair, Cap beating up the kind of people who rant about the new world order does seem pretty on brand, really.
Wake me up at your own risk.I guess that guy I met in high school who genuinely believed birds weren't real didn't get the memo.
Speaking of Brave New World, Anthony Mackie just posted this image on Instagram. Truly iconic.
Trust no one.
I think the issue is that the implication of the old title would be that the "New World Order" is the enemy that Captain America is fighting, which would embracing the conspiracy theory.
Granted, it's unlikely that the movie is about that, and even if it was, changing the title wouldn't fix that.
That being said, I have noted in previous discussions that the Hydra plotline in Winter Soldier (probably/hopefully unintentionally) reflects the kind of "New World Order" or Qanon type conspiracy theory that unites the far left and far right.
So, I'm not completely confident in the direction that the movie will go in, regardless of the title.

Unclear for anything beyond the Egyptian afterlife, tbh, since Moon Knight is the only MCU property really brave enough to delve into actual theology.
In the comics the Norse afterlife explicitly exists, Asgard is still the heaven analogue and Hela rules the hell analogue, but that's explicitly not a thing in the movies, Asgard is just the place where the Asgardians live and Hel is explicitly just called the Goddess of Death because she kills things really well, while she isn't literally a death god in the MCU.
Meanwhile, iirc the symposium of gods we see in Thor 4 includes a lot of beings who would otherwise be afterlife gods, so if they do rule afterlives they're not doing an especially good job with them. But Thor 4 was a good start for the movies going into actual godly stuff, so maybe we'll see more if Thor 5 happens, or with whatever the heck Hercules is going to be about.
(Man, I straight up forgot they set up Hercules. Marvel's sheer amount of projects means they're now taking forever to follow up on anything)
